From The Curragh Racecourse in County Kildare,  Ireland,  we bring you the Group 1 event,  Tattersalls Gold.  A field of eight older males will meet at ~2100 meters (or 10.5 furlongs for the state side fans) for the winner’s share of the $750,000 purse on tap, and the winning connections will revel in the post race trophy presentation festivities.  The turf oval should be in firm condition as the fine late spring weather should last into next week.
.
This is a very competitive heat,  as we have five former G1 winning millionaires lining up in the starting gate.   Morning line favoritism falls to the stronger half of the “evil empire” entry,  STREETS OF SIN,  who shoots for his fifth G1 score with an eye on ultimately qualifying for the Hall Of Fame.  And the other half of the lenny271 entry,  CARABELLA,  is no slouch as he goes for his fourth G1 win as the co-second choice of the handicapper.  Former claimer turned G1 winner IVOR’S CRAFT from the bezstables and given88′s DEEP FORTY look to be the most likely spoilers.  Let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see what the figures reveal.

Heading up the post parade is this scratch bred son of Street Cry (by Monsun),  who exits a smashing victory in the G1 The Good Day at this route,  blasting a 122 SP# in a mid pack trip.  Brown five year old failed to fire late one before that when 6th in the G1 Sand Castle Golden Turf Classic at a mile and a half,  bagging a 106 SP# in an even effort.  One back of that he ran off with the G1 The Jai Alai Park Turf at 11 panels,  bashing a 119 SP# from the middle of the pack.  Well deserving favorite seeks another notch towards a HOF career;  only knock is in and out pattern,  which points to an out finish;  still the one to beat in first appearance at this venue for the lenny271 barn.

Imposing five year old chestnut horse was an OK 4th in latest,  the G1 The 5-Series at 12 furlongs,  sticking a 109 SP# in an even try.  Scratch bred New Approach niffler (by Monsun) stormed  down the straight to take the G1 New Zealand Darby at a mile and a half in his prior run,  smoking a 116 SP# from back in the pack.  One before that he took the G2 Buck Dharma Handicap at 11 panels,  sizzling a 120 SP# from the middle of the pack.  Stretch runner from the slowhand barn of the lenny271 racing conglomerate seeks his 4th overall G1 triumph;  looks like his barn mate is the main opposition in his first try over this oval.

Former $60,000 claimer closed well for 4th last time over in the G3 Great Beer Cap at 11 furlongs,  notching a 113 SP# in his first outing in five months.  Roan five year old came on for 2nd in his 2016 finale,  the G1 The Singapore Cup,  also at 11 panels,  nailing a 118 SP# from the back of the pack.  Scratch bred Mastercraftsman mister (by Lyphard) fell  too far back to factor in the G1 The Jockey’s Weapon at 12 furlongs in his previous start,  nabbing a 109 SP# moving from last of eight.  Bezstables trainee was 5th in this event last year,  and has a G1 victory on his resume;  should be fitter today,  could be right there on top try.

Steps way up in class off a front running 3rd in a NW5L allowance at 11.5 furlongs,  flinging a 107 SP# while no match for the winner.  Ruler Of The World rascal,  out of the sim mare Desert Wolf (by Green Desert),  got up for 2nd one before that in an open allowance at 11 furlongs,  flipping a 106 SP# in a mid pack run.  Bay four year old colt took a NW4L allowance at 11 panels over this oval in his prior try,  flashing a 110 SP# in a stalking trip.  Runner from the vienna stable has four career wins,  all of them over this track;  “horse for the course” angle seems the only positive as he was trounced in both grade/group tries.

Hailing from the billzpaid4 racing group is this Frankel fella,  based on the stakes winning sim he-mare Looknfordubawimds (by Dubawi),  who comes off a tenacious win in the G3 The Ambrosia at 10 furlongs,  drilling a 117 SP# in a stalking run.  Bay four year old came on for 2nd one back of that in a restricted allowance at 9 panels,  dropping a 113 SP# from mid pack off a twelve week respite.  In his previous outing he was an even 5th at a mile and a half in the G2 All Night Cap,  drawing a 108 SP#.  Improving sort may find himself closer to the pace than usual,  could get the jump on the deep closers if he moves forward instead of bouncing off last out.

.
Bay five year old horse seeks his third straight after taking the G1 Sydney Cup at 10 furlongs,  popping a 116 SP# from well back in the pack.  Deep Impact dude,  out of the Hall Of Fame sim mare Neo Forty (by New Approach),  won his 2017 debut in a restricted allowance at 10 panels,  punching a 104 SP# in a mid pack run off an eleven week rest.  He finished off his 2016 campaign with a disappointing 7th in the G1 King Kong Cup,  also at 10 furlongs,  pegging a 111 SP# in an even try.  Runner from the formidable given88 racing operation is in fine form right now,  lack of early pace could compromise his chances.

FRANKEL   MINI   MOO                          ENG     4M     jdtrot44         J Dekeyser         16/1
.
Tuned up for this spot with an easy,  front running win in a NW4x allowance at two miles on the dirt,  stashing a 76 SP# in a four horse affair.  Bay four year old was a dull 7th of eight one before that in the G2 The Sandy Ray Handicap at 12 furlongs,  snagging a 102 SP# in a mid pack try.  In his previous outing,  Frankel flanker,  based on the G1 winning,  million dollar earning sim he-mare Lemondrop Mini Moo (by Lemon Drop Kid),  tired to 8th in the G1 New Zealand Darby at 12 panels,  snaring a 109 SP# after being in striking distance early. Runner from the jdtrot44 stable faces tough group,  will need to step up his game to factor here.

.
Last out of the paddock is this scratch bred Dubawi duke (by Sadler’s Wells),  who was 5th last out in the G2 The Nikki Show at 13 furlongs,  casting a 108 SP# off a four month vacation.  Bay five year old horse closed well for 5th in his last 2016 start in the G1 Japan Classic at a mile and a half,  catching a 112 SP# in a crowded 20 horse field.  He won his prior try in the G2 The Angry Dragon at 12 panels,  cashing a 108 SP# from off the pace.  Redcar protege started his career at this venue going 8-5-2-0;  another “horse for the course” drops back in distance,  could hang on for a minor share in second start of the year.

One Response to “Which one of Lenny’s stars will edge closer to the Hall Of Fame in the G1 Tattersalls Gold ?”

  1. Congratulations to the winning connections – the “horse for the course” and second off the layoff angles deny Lenny’s stars another notch towards the HOF – guess my headline should have been less presumptive than it was.
