We go across the pond to take our first look at two year old males competing in the Group 2 The Norfellow Stakes.  Contested at ~1000 meters (or five furlongs for the state side fans) over what should be a firm turf course at Ascot Racecourse in Ascot,  Berkshire,  England,  a field of ten freshman runners will vie for their first grade/group victory and for the winner’s share of the $375,000 purse on tap.  The winning connections will star in the post race trophy presentation,  and the winner will probably vault into the top five of their division.
.
A  bit of Wiki trivia:  the racecourse was used as a filming location in the James Bond film A View to a Kill (1985), where Bond (played for the last time by Roger Moore who recently passed away) was beginning his mission to defeat the villainous Max Zorin (Christopher Walken), whose horse was racing there.  The James Bond production crew returned to Ascot Racecourse for Skyfall (2012), where it stood in for Shanghai Pudong International Airport.  The racecourse is also home to Royal Ascot Cricket Club, which was founded in 1897 and their ground is situated in the middle of the racecourse.
.
As for the race,  it has attracted a three ply entry from the gowans racing group,  two of them making their racing debuts – the handicapper rates the unraced entrants as the favorite and co-second choice on the morning line !  The other co-second choice was an impressive first out winner for the asrstar0 barn.  Our lone stakes winner in the group is two for two for the unclebucky stable,  held at 6/1 odds.  Is there a future star loading into the starting gate ?  Let’s take a look at the past performances in post position order and see if we may find a possible clue or two.

BED  WEDDING                                           IRE     2M     mainsequence         D Givins     7/2
.
First out on to the course is this strapping bay,  who makes his first start.  Exceed And Excel emigre,  out of the graded placed,  stakes winning sim mare Talisa (by Medaglia D’Oro) has been impressing the back stretch  boys in morning trials;  tries for black type in debut for the mainsequence stable.  Handicapper makes him the morning line favorite off those morning works.

KYCKER                                                               ENG     2M     lightng112         N Labreche     12/1
.
Kyllachy kicker,  out of the sim mare Top Cheffe (by Elusive Quality),  was 2nd best last out in the Once Haunted listed stakes at this distance,  stabbing a 70 SP# in a late running effort in his first run on the green.  Bay colt was an even 6th one before that in an open allowance at 6 panels,  sticking a 66 SP#.  He won first out on the dirt from a difficult post at 5.5 furlongs in an open maiden,  smacking a 68 SP# after prevailing in an early pace duel.  Runner from the lightng112 mega stable should be rolling late in the lane,  might get there on top try at juicy 12/1 odds.

ALWAYS  EAST                                             AUS     2M     rockzombie         R Morrighan     17/1
.
Hailing from the rockzombie racing group is this bay colt who exits a 7th place run in the Stolen listed stakes at 5.5 furlongs,  tabbing a 65 SP# while never a threat.  Adelaide athlete,  out of the stakes placed sim mare Never West (by Never Idle),  got caught late after getting to the front in the Secret Shot listed at 5.5 panels,  throwing a 72 SP# tracking the leader.  One back of that he was an OK 5th in the Hell On Earth listed,  also at 5.5 furlongs,  tossing a 69 SP# in his first stakes try.  Busy runner makes his 9th start,  experience may help but the handicapper is unimpressed,  rating him as the longest shot on the board at 17/1.

RESCINDED  MATE                                  IRE     2M     unclebucky         K Ledwith     6/1
.
Dark Angel dancer,  out of the stakes winning sim mare Mateship (by Fastnet Rock),  comes off a wire to wire victory in the Azerley listed stakes at this trip,  remaining undefeated with a 74 SP#.  Roan colt led all the way in his debut in a hot race allowance,  also at 5 panels,  snaring a 70 SP#.  Unclebucky protege has yet to be headed,  should be prominent early and may continue his winning ways on top try.

WAKI  HADDA                                               AUS     2M     vertain6         S Ex         10/1
.
Big bay colt took his second straight on the weeds,  blowing by his foes in a four horse NW1x allowance at 5.5 furlongs,  bashing a 75 SP#.  Hvasstan hoss,  out of the graded placed,  stakes winning sim mare Waki Alexis (by Miswaki),  broke his maiden one before that at 5 panels,  banging a 74 SP# in a stretch running effort.  He closed well for 3rd in his debut on the dirt at three-quarters of a mile,  bagging a 63 SP# moving from tenth of eleven.  Runner from the vertain6 barn hopes for a lively pace to set up his late kick,  gets no love from the handicapper at 10/1.

ELUSIVE  BLUE                                            SPA     2M     ormax             D Grohl     13/1
.
Owner/trainer ormax runner seeks his third straight after taking a pair of local bred allowances at 5.5 furlongs,  nailing  67 and  78 SP#’s  in stalking runs.  Lightning Moon lad,  out of the stakes placed sim mare Sir On The Secret (by Pivotal),  settled for 2nd after making all the pace in a NW2L allowance at 5.5 panels one back of those,  nabbing a 72 SP#.  Chestnut colt looks like he’ll be an early pace factor,  and has made the exacta in all five starts;  eligible to get the money in his first stakes outing,  though the handicapper is skeptical rating him at 10/1 odds.

KNOCKATEMPLE                                       IRE     2M     bsben             P Bangs     7/1
.
Stretch running bay colt came on for 2nd last out in a local bred maiden affair at 6 furlongs,  cashing a 69 SP# moving from ninth of twelve.  Zoffany zipper,  out of the stakes winning sim mare Alaida (by Speightstown),  just missed in his initial try in an open maiden at 5.5 furlongs,  copping a 67 SP# while never far off the early leaders.  Bsben trainee should be gaining in the lane,  but would probably like a bit more ground;  handicapper seems intrigued,  though this one’s SP#’s seem a bit short of the top ones in the field.

OG  MUHAARAR  SILI                           ENG     2M     baffy0             L Radzinski     7/1
.
Muhaarar master,  out of the graded placed,  stakes winning sim mare That’s A Fact Jack (by Dansili),   closed well for 3rd last time over in the Redoutes Son listed at 6 furlongs,  snatching a 75 SP# in his first stakes try.  One back of that,  this bay colt took a NW2L allowance at 5.5 panels,  snagging a 73 SP# in a stalking run.  He won his previous start in a hot race maiden at this distance,  slinging a 57 SP# prompting the pace.  Baffy0 runner should be close early and try to get the jump on the deep closers.

GIANT  ACTION                                               KY     2M     asrstar0         R Whisper     9/2
.
Chestnut colt won his debut in an open maiden at 4.5 furlongs,  drilling a 70 SP# just getting up at the wire.  Giant’s Causeway guy,  based on the G1 winning,  million dollar earning sim he-mare Pivotal Action (by Pivotal) makes his second career start stepping up into grade/group company;  gets an early class test against some more seasoned rivals;  handicapper likes his chances,  making the co-second choice on the morning line for the asrstaro racing operation.

COUNTY  DORK                                                IRE     2M     gowans7         H Harzheim     9/2
.
Last out of the paddock is the other first time starter,  this one from the gowans7 racing group.  Bay colt by Acclamation,  out of the stakes placed sim mare All For Nothing (by Monsun),  has reportedly been a handful for the groom to handle and has opened eyes in morning workouts;  he’s made the handicapper a believer,  rated as the co-second choice on the morning line.

Good luck everybody and may they all come home fast,  safe and sound.
