Grade I Saint Legend success came to ochbarn in the bay-colored form of THE NAME IS LYONS, a three-year-old who seems to enjoy the racing the longer it goes. He was a slight favorite at 5-1 in this test of stamina for the younger set, no doubt based on the promise he showed when third in this year’s Derby de English. D Givins kept him not too far back from speed-oriented O WHAT A NIGHT; he took over as the leaders faded, and had no trouble holding off the later moves of THE NEVER LANDS and fellow New Zealand-bred SHOCK THEATER. He strikes a blow for less heavily-used sires, as his daddy Castledale has not produced a stakes winner in the Sim in some time. His trainer already has him engaged for the Japanese Saint Legend on October 22nd.
