Mile and a half types not pointed to the Ark de ComicDog found a different destination a week prior when they met in Germany on September 23rd. The Europe Classic may not have the name recognition of the French fixture, but it is a Grade 1 race in its own right. The field of twelve had five that were already graded winners, but fortune instead favored a new face. RAPSTARLA led the way through virtually the whole circuit while DOLLY’S BOY chased, with favorite and New Zealand representative KOYASH in third. DOLLY’S BOY, however, took command down the lane and finished more than three lengths to the good. The Magoo2912 runner made his first stakes win a Grade 1, though overall he is a much improved horse after being gelded coming into the 2017 season. KOYASH faded to sixth, but RAPSTARLA made an impression with his speed tactics, as he held an easy second. Whatever spell bogged down the closers did not affect LAKE INGE, who finished best among the rest, though far back. As a multiple Southern U.S. local champ, he will now have something more to brag about back home.
