From Queensland,  Australia,  the elite Racing Club proudly presents its November stakes race,  Darci Brahma.  Contested at ~1700 meters (or 1 and 1/16 miles for the stateside fans) on the firm turf oval,  a compact field of five club runners,  including a lone filly, will face off for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse,  and for the lion’s share of the stakes bonus points that will ultimately crown the club champ.  Leader dontbetonme can close it out with a win or place performance from UPPER LARGO,  while the only member who can catch donbetonme is harrylan,  who saddles SEA CAUSEWAY.   Summerset is high on his first time starter,  DRAMATIC DILEMMA;  club honcho jbcri sends out the long shot of the field,  OLD CROW BOURBON,  and yours truly tries his debut winning colt,  VAQ.
.
Let’s take a closer look at them and see what we can see.

VAQ                                                                    ENG     2M     ric804             M Cameron         2/1
.
First out on to the course is my scratch bred Dansili dude (by Storm Cat),  who took his debut in late running fashion in an open maiden at 7 furlongs,  throwing a 79 SP#.  Could be hurt by pace scenario,  handicapper likes his chances as the 2/1 second choice.

SEA CAUSEWAY                                          IRE     2M     harrylanlow46         L Slater         5/2
.
Defending club champ harrylan looks to keep the repeat alive with this scratch bred bay colt,  who won last out at 7.5 panels in an open maiden,  smacking an 83 SP# from mid pack.  Scratch bred Sea The Stars stepper (by Sadler’s Wells),  was 2nd best first time out in an open maiden at 7 furlongs,  sticking a 74 SP# while never far from the leaders.  May also be at the mercy of the pace,  but should be a stretch factor.

OLD CROW BOURBON                         IRE     2F     jbcri3             C Wyatt         8/1
.
Club honcho jbcri saddles the lone filly in the field,  a lovely bay who broke her maiden last out at this distance,  bashing an 80 SP# from just off the pace.  Dawn Approach duchess,  based on the sim he-mare All Beancounters (by Sepoy),  was 2nd one back of that at a mile,  banging a 73 SP# chasing the leaders.  She was 6th in her debut on an off track at 6.5 furlongs,  bagging a 59 SP#.  Could be the pace setter with these;  improving sort from shrewd barn could surprise.

DRAMATIC DILEMMA                          IRE     2M     summerset4         G Heath         9/5
.
The handicapper’s favorite is this bay,  scratch bred Galileo guy (by Dynaformer),  who makes his debut here.  The summerset stable is very high on this runner,  as he’s been kicking down the stall walls after wowing the back stretch boys in morning trials.  His running style could have a big impact in this event;  may be the beginning of something big.

 UPPER LARGO                                           JPN     2M     dontbetonme8     D Papandrea         9/2
.
Last out of the paddock is this Lohengrin lad out of the stakes winning sim mare Cromarty (by Lonhro),  who was 6th last time over in the Staying On listed stakes at 7 furlongs,  drilling an 83 SP# prompting the early pace.  Bay colt changed hands after a 5th place run in the El Hermitz listed at 6 panels one back of that,  dropping an 80 SP# in an even effort.  His prior outing was a fast closing 2nd in the Northern Chant listed st 5 furlongs,  drawing a 77 SP#.  Bay colt makes his 10th two year old start;  experience may help owner/trainer dontbetonme clinch the club stakes title.

Good luck everybody,  and may they all come home fast,  safe and sound.
