Seven Bargain Bred Racing Series (BBRS) runners will go to the post in the $100K JOHNS CALL(ST). Run over two miles, this is truly a stamina test for BBRS competitors.

Most of the horses have seen one another at one point or another, and they will renew their rivalry on Saturday.

Let’s take a look at the field:

1) WORLD OF DROWNINGS (6/5)

5yo Bay Gelding

23 – 12 – 5 – 2 (.522 W, .826 ITM) – $1,123,020

One of two $1,000,000 earners to feature on Saturday’s BBRS card, the accomplished gelding also has a grade two victory on his resume. He will be looking to retain his title as he captured victory in this event in 2016. His last run was a 5+ length romp to win THE WOMBAT CUP(ST); a two mile race run in early November. In early October, he was upset by SANDAL KEEP in the ARC DE MALELEVE(ST) which was run at a mile-and-a-half, so the connections will certainly be looking for some retribution on Saturday as well as defending their title in the JOHNS CALL.

2) CARDINAL KONG (8/1)

5yo Chestnut Gelding

17 – 5 – 6 – 2 (.294 W, .765 ITM) – $107,442

Jockey: V Jef

Owner: nwmktepsom

HONG KONG STOPOVER x EXCLUSIVE ZONE x GETTYSBURG ADDRESS

The recently-claimed gelding is making his BBRS debut on Saturday. His past experience and performances shows he has what it takes to compete with his fellow runners, but bettors still may be apprehensive given a few mitigating factors. However, do not count him out as his last run was a restricted allowance win with a triple digit SP number.

3) GRAND PILOT (9/2)

4yo Bay Colt

24 – 11 – 5 – 4 (.458 W, .833 ITM) – $321,908

Jockey: O Brim

Owner: lglong2y

GRAND REVE x CHAMPION PILOT x BLETCHINGLY

By woodlands in Australia

The colt’s last BBRS victory came in THE TEN LOST PYRAMIDS(ST) back in April. He finished six lengths back from SANDAL KEEP in his next BBRS venture, and the following performance was mediocre in THE PEARL CUP(ST) in early November. His past SP numbers show he has the class to compete in this field, but he will have to overcome the previous two performances against some familiar rivals to be a factor.

4) SANDAL KEEP (2/1)

5yo Bay Horse

19 – 8 – 2 – 4 (.421 W, .737 ITM) – $374,788

Jockey: F Duffy

Owner: gowansbbrs

He defeated a few of his Saturday rivals in the ARC DE MALELEVE(ST) back in early October. Later on in the month, he switched back to the dirt to take a stab at THE COPPER CUP(ST), but he finished a few lengths back in a third place finish. The versatile runner has shown he can transition to different surfaces and still run impressive numbers, and his previous performance bodes well for the outlook on Saturday.

5) IDEALORIO (7/1)

4yo Bay Colt

22 – 4 – 3 – 3 (.182 W, .455 ITM) – $315,060

Jockey: C Morten

Owner: safbb2

IDEAL WORLD x ORATORIO x SAVABEEL

By safbb2 in South Africa

Ran with the pace the last time out in THE WOMBAT CUP(ST) before eventually being overtaken by WORLD OF DROWNINGS. The colt would stay on for a runner-up finish, but the favorite cleared him by over five lengths. If the two mile distance was the issue last race, look for him to be more competitive in the final strides of this event.

6) MAASAI SOCIETY (46/1)

3yo Light Grey Filly

11 – 4 – 2 – 2 (.364 W, .727 ITM) – $112,954

Jockey: J White

Owner: plano3

CROWDED HOUSE x CLODOVIL x KALANISI

Could the filly be able to provide another shock like the one she delivered in THE WOMBAT CUP(ST)? At similar odds, she held on to third place at the wire after setting the pace for much of the two mile journey. While some of her Saturday competitors have shown more ability, she has displayed the wherewithal to compete at long distance events. Do not count the gutsy filly out to get a piece of the board.

7) DANCE GROUP (17/1)

4yo Bay Colt

21 – 5 – 8 – 3 (.238 W, .762 ITM) – $79,670

Jockey: M Staples

Owner: lglong2yoz

BAGO x SUZUKA MAMBO x CHARTRON

He made his BBRS debut last time out in THE WOMBAT CUP(ST). While he finished close to 20 lengths behind the leaders, some of his prior runs suggest he can be a factor. The colt will surely have to display the experience of his first two mile jog is enough to get closer to the pace on Saturday.

The class and experience of WORLD OF DROWNINGS is hard to argue with, and he should cruise to victory on Saturday.

SANDAL KEEP is one of the most successful BBRS runners appearing on Saturday, and should put up a challenge in this event.

IDEALORIO was competitive in THE WOMBAT CUP(ST), and should challenge for the podium in this run, as well.

At 46/1, MAASAI SOCIETY is the BTB LONGSHOT SPECIAL. She should certainly run out to the lead like previous performances, we will see if she can hold on for a spot in the top three again.
