2017 Ohio Sires Year In Review

Total Standing = 59

Total Offspring = 528

Winners Percentage = 29.09%

Stakes Winners = 1

SW Percentage = 0.11%

Average USD/Runner = $12,363

Dirt/Turf = 54.56%/43.7%

Sprint/Route = 93.35%/6.65%

Not a great year for my homeland, as winning percentages overall were down from previous year. Only one stakes winner has risen from this years crop, and his name is RIDING RAILS. RIDING RAILS was bred by the trainer, super23, and currently has three wins from five lifetime starts. He won last out going away in an 11.5 furlong listed stakes in Florida. Sired by Big Train A’ Comin out of a mare by Pulpit.

Only 4 sires reported to have at least 30 foals produced last year, those sires are:

Cowtown Cat – 39

Vertiformer – 36

Coronet Of A Baron – 33

Splinter – 30

Other Notables:

Awesome Patriot – 25

A Giant Valentine – 23

Caveman Keno – 21

State Line – 20

Top winning % sires with minimum 5 foals are:

Mobil – 70.0% (10 runners)

Mr. Mabee – 60.0% (5 runners)

Cowtown Cat – 59.0% (39 runners)

Twinspired – 55.6% (9 runners)

Vertiformer – 50.0% (36 runners)

Former sim and real life breeding stars have long been overlooked in recent years. Soon, they will not be available as their age is up there. Get them now as there are not too many descendants from their sires left in the breeding barns across the world. They are:

Mercer Mill – by Forty Niner out of a Seattle Slew mare. Only given 8 runners this year. Has produced 4 stakes winners in the sim.

Pacific Waves – by Seattle Slew out of an Alleged mare. Only given 5 runners this year. Has no stakes winners in the sim but probably due to his lack of usage.

Hopefully 2018 brings better results to those with love to the OH. 2018 also brings 4 freshman sires to Ohio’s breeding barns. They are:

Cryptolight – Fantastic Light x Cryptoclearance mare

Kiss The Ghost – Ghostzapper x Kris S mare

Prayer On A Wing – Fusaichi Pegasus x Stormy Atlantic mare

Zimmer – Empire Maker x Phone Trick mare

Good luck to all!

  1. Fret not my friend! I sent a mare BACK to OHIO sire CANVAS because the first one looked like he had serious ability!

the young filly is already making waves!

  2. It’s OK Mr. Buckeye. At least they breed football players in Ohio.
