From Aqueduct race track (aka the Big A) in Ozone Park,  New York,  the Elite Racing Club is proud to present its opening stakes race of 2018,  the Uncle Mo.  Contested at five furlongs (or about a 1000 meters for the metric set) over what should be a fast main track,  a field of five club runners will vie for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse on tap,  and to star in the post race celebrations.  The winning trainer will also collect the lion’s share of the club’s stakes bonus points,  which will ultimately determine a club champion.
.
Summerset seeks to get off to a fast start this year (after a huge stretch run in 2017) chasing a repeat championship.  He’s represented by the 3rd choice on the morning line,  TECHNICAL STRIKER.  The handicapper’s choice is MORE LIKE A BRIDGE out of the harrylan racing operation,  while the 2nd choice,  SCARY  CLOWNS, is saddled by our fearless leader,  jbcri09.  Dontbetonme,  who took down the first two thirds of the club’s triple crown series in 2017 and who just missed holding off summerset last year, has DEPUTY EFFINEX,  a first time starter looking for the surprise win,  and amir rounds out the field with the seconditis afflicted TRIPMASTER.
.
These ERC events are usually very close affairs,  and this one looks like it will get the schedule off to an exciting start.  Let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see what we may see.

MORE  LIKE  A  BRIDGE                      AUS     3M         harrylan5         G Thom         8/5

Fleet chestnut colt wired a NW4L allowance last time over at 6.5 panels,  drilling a 94 SP# surviving an early pace duel off a 3 month layoff.  One back of that,  More Than Ready mister out of the sim mare Bridgecity (by Bridgtown),  tired late when 3rd in the Senior Storm listed at 6 furlongs,  dropping an 84 SP# while unable to get to the front.  His prior try  was a score at three quarters in the club’s Speightstown event,  dancing to an 86 SP# prompting the early fractions.  The handicapper always loves owner/trainer harrylan‘s entries;  yet another morning line favorite will take catching from the rail.

Newly crowned club champ summerset sends out this Congrats colt,  out of the sim mare St. Andrews GC (by More Than Ready) after his 4th straight triumph after taking an open allowance at 4.5 furlongs on the poly surface in front running fashion,  pasting an 83 SP#.  Brown colt pressed the pace to prevail in a NW3L allowance at this distance in his previous start,  popping an 84 SP# on the dirt.  He wired a NW2L allowance at this trip one back of that,  posting an 81 SP#.  Should be prominent from the gate,  is two for two at this distance on dirt;  can do.

DEPUTY  EFFINEX                                   NY     3M         dontbetonme5     F Dailey         9/2
.
First time starter from the dontbetonme stable has been working out impressively (so say the back stretch wise guys),  and he’s been a handful in the barn area.  Trainer has surprised them enough times that it wouldn’t be a shocker if this bay,  scratch bred Effinex colt (by Broad Brush) romps.

SCARY  CLOWNS                                        ARG     3M         jbcri41             L Jenkins         9/5
.
Tries stakes company again after a dull 7th in the Gone Wild listed stakes at 7 furlongs in latest,  grabbing an 88 SP# while no serious factor.  Scratch bred Forestry fella (by Forty Niner) went gate to wire one back of that in a NW3L allowance at 6 panels,  garnering an 88 SP#.  His previous outing was a fading 9th in the Senior Hill listed at 6 furlongs,  getting a 78 SP#.  Another speedster (when on his game) who gets 2nd billing from the handicapper;  if in and out pattern continues could be right there at finish for the jbcri41 barn.

 TRIPMASTER                                               SAF     3M         amir1629         W Jenkins         8/1
.
Watching them all exit the paddock is this Trippi tomcat,  out of the stakes winning sim mare Wokeupthismorning (by Fantasticat),  who just held on to take a NW1x allowance at this route,  casting a 78 SP#.  Bay colt was 2nd best twice in the same condition at 5.5 furlongs after setting the early pace in each,  catching 75 and 76 SP#’s.  Speedster from the amir1629 mega stable could be a pace factor,  will need to move forward to match strides late with these.

Good luck everybody,  and may they all come home fast,  safe and sound.
