From Fairview Racecourse in Port Elizabeth,  South Africa,  the Elite Racing Club presents its monthly stakes event,  the Frankel.  Contested at six furlongs (or ~ 1200 meters for the metricians),  a field of six club sophomore males will vie for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse up for grabs,  and to star in the post race celebration and trophy presentation.  The winning owner/trainer will also earn the lion’s share of the club’s stakes bonus points,  which go to crowning a club champion at year end.
.
New managing director summerset saddles the short priced favorite IDLE DANCER,  the lone graded stakes winner of the group.  As for the club co-founders:  amir1607 sends out the second choice INFLATTOX,  and jbcri09 has the third choice and the only other stakes winner,  HAMPTON STATION.   Harrylan finds himself in the unusual position of not having one of the top betting choices,  entering the 4th pick,  EPIPHANEIA’S DREAM.  Shrewd trainer dontbetonme looks to surprise them again with the 5/1 THE OVERGROWN,  and johnkarczewski returns to the ERC wars with the longest shot on the board,  HIKOSABURO.
.
These ERC events almost always are tight contests;  which runner(s) will give IDLE DANCER a run for the money ?  Let’s take a look at them in post position order and see what the figures may reveal.

1
 INFLATTOX                                                     KY     3M     amir1723         O’Connell         7/2
.
Leading them out on to the race track is this big bay colt,  who has won three of his last four after switching to the weeds.  Flatter fellow,  out of the sim mare Funny Little Thing (by Belong To Me),  powered down the straight to take a NW3L allowance at this distance last out,  smashing a 90 SP# in a stalking trip.  One back of that he wired a NW1x allowance st 5 panels,  sticking a 75 SP# n a four horse affair.  He lasted for 2nd in his prior try in the same conditions and trip,  stabbing a 77 SP# in a pace setting effort.  Speedster from the amir1723 super stable should be a serious pace factor,  may forget to stop in stakes debut.

HIKOSABURO                                               MD     3M     johnkarczewski22     R Kirby             9/1
.
Scratch bred Petionville prancer (by Marquetry) makes his stakes debut off a pair of front running scores in hot races at this route,  earning identical 76 SP#’s in identical final times.  Runner from the johnkarczewski barn faces other like minded foes on the front end,  could outrun his 9/1 odds with expected improvement.

EPIPHANEIA’S DREAM                        JPN     3M     harrylanlow38         N Nation         9/2
.
Owner/trainer harrylanlow38 sends out this strapping bay colt after a closing 2nd in a NW2L allowance at this trip,  popping an 81 SP# from just off the pace.  Epiphaneia equine,  out of the sim mare Darci’s Dream (by Darci Brahma) faltered to 7th in his previous outing in the Boulchique listed stakes at this distance,  pasting a 77 SP# in his stakes debut.  One before that he got 2nd in a NW2L allowance at 6.5 furlongs,  posting a 79 SP# from just off the pace.  Barn usually has one of the top betting interests in these events,  should track the pace setters and could surprise if ready off three month layoff.

 IDLE DANCER                                              GER     3M     rac10             K Damo         3/2
.
3/2 morning line favorite was an even 3rd in latest,  the Kirby County listed stakes at 5.5 furlongs,  zipping an 87 SP# after chasing the pace.  Scratch bred Adlerflug athlete (by Danehill Dancer) took the Veldfire listed at 5 panels  one before that,  zapping an 89 SP# in a pace pressing performance.  Bay colt got black type in prior run,  taking the G2 Flying Children at 5 furlongs,  zinging an 82 SP#,  surviving a race long pace duel.  Rac10 trainee from the summerset operation should be part of a contested early pace;  this is his first try at three-quarters of a mile.

HAMPTON STATION                               AUS     3M     jbcri31             B Izalls             4/1
.
Hampton Court hombre,  out of the sim mare Red Linda (by Shakespeare),  came on for the place last time over in a NW4L allowance at 6.5 furlongs, banging an 87 SP#.  Striking bay colt flew home for the victory in his prior start in the Jo Anns Yodeler listed stakes at 6.5 panels,  bashing an 84 SP# moving from eighth of eleven.  His closing kick just missed when 2nd one before that in the Cemetary Gates listed at this route,  bagging an 80 SP#.  Runner from the jbcri31 racing group should get a fast pace to close into,  and has never missed the exacta in all seven career starts; could get there with smooth trip.

THE OVERGROWN                                   ITY     3M     dontbetonme8     H Wilkins         5/1
.
Last out of the paddock is this headstrong bay colt,  who seems to have found a home on the green after wiring a NW3L allowance at 7.5 furlongs,  throwing an 86 SP#.  Colossus cutup,  out of the sim mare Jay’s Nest (by Jay Peg),  closed well for 4th in his first grass try,  tossing an 80 SP# at 5 panels.   One back of that he was an OK 3rd on the dirt at 7.5 furlongs in a local bred allowance,  tabbing an 80 SP# in an even trip.  Owner/trainer dontbetonme always seems to have a competitive entrant in these get togethers,  would not be a shock if he did it yet again.

Good luck everybody,  and may they all come home fast,  safe and sound.
