THE BED OF FLOWERS

New York will welcome a full field of 14 Fillies and Mares that are 3 years old or older to the Grade 2 race that will take place on Saturday at 2:30 pm EST over the main dirt track to be contested at a distance of 7 furlongs (7/8 of a mile) with a total purse of $375,000.

The handicapper has seperated the 2 co-favorites along with 2 others with his morning line.  12 of these ladies are KY breds while 1 each comes from Turkey and Australia.  We have 9 fillies entered along with 5 mares.  9 Four year olds, 4 Five year olds and 1 Six year old.  There are 2 Graded stakes winners in the field along with 8 runners making their first graded start and for 2 of them it is their first soire into stakes company at any level.

A LOOK AT THE FIELD:

1- POWER TO THE CAUSE      (12-1)   round2      J: N. Lawton

4 Filly   sire: POWERSCOURT    dam: TEOTIHUACAN (GIANT’S CAUSEWAY)

Has hit the board in 16 out of 17 dirt sprint starts with 6 victories, but will be going to the gate in a graded race for the first time.  Won last start in the FLUGURANT DIRT MARE SPRINT by a neck putting up her best 110 SP, in her first attempt at a listed stakes.  Has won 4 of her last 6 starts.

2- ONE WORLD TRADE            (12-1)   kaner       J: P. Haynes

4 Filly    sire: FIRST SAMURAI    dam: A.J. (EMPIRE MAKER)

In her last start she put up a 109 SP in winning a NW1s allowance.  Won the G3- SANTA JEZEBEL STAKES and ran Third in the g3- VICTORIOUS RIDE during the 2017 campaign.  Has won 3 imes in her 7 dirt sprint starts.  Haynes has been in the irons twice before with a show to his credit.

3- WHISPERING SKY                (19-1)   vkstables       J: B. Renfroe

4 Filly    sire: SECRET CIRCLE    dam: SKY OF ARROWS (WAR FRONT)

Comes in here off of a win in a NW3s allowance while corking off a 110 SP.  Has hit the board in 10 of her 13 dirt sprints including the last 7 in a row.  Has never went to the post in a stakes race at any level.

4- FV PIN WHEEL                     (9-1)    hawkz       J: S. Tate

5 Mare    sire: GEMOLOGIST    dam: TOO EASILY (TOO MUCH BLING)

Has won her last 3 starts (all listed stakes races) and 6 out of the last 9.  She has hit the board in 19 of  23 dirt sprint races with 12 career wins, but will be making graded stakes debut here. Last June put up her best 110 SP in winning the BEST OF BEST DIRT MARE SPRINT.  

5- DARK AIN’T POETIC          (51-1)   lightng99      J: J. Piotrowski

4 Filly    sire: BIG BLUE KITTEN   dam: POETIC MONTE (DYLAN THOMAS)

Enters off posting a 102 SP in a NW3L allowance finishing in Second.  Has appeared in 4 stakes races with a best of Third in the BOURBON COFFEE DIRT CHALLENGE last April.  Making her first ever graded start.  Has 2 career wins both in dirt sprint events.

6- MADE READY                       (13-1)   mtk76       J: L. Israel

Last time out on a sloppy track ran 6th in the G2- DISTAFF BREEDERS BOWL CAP.  Prior to that was Second by a head in the UNO DOS TRES DIRT MARE DASH.  In October came home home 2nd in the G2- QOUTE THE RAVEN putting out a 107 SP.  Has 5 dirt spint wins in 16 starts.

7- VINE TALES                         (6-1)     tea3         J: R. Case

5 Mare   sire: TALE OF THE CAT     dam: VINUESA (ARCH)

Last race came home Third in the G2- DAVEY JONES HANDICAP her first graded race.  Prior to that busted loose with a 114 SP in a 37.5K allowance.  Has 5 wins in 10 dirt sprint races.  Has evenly split her 20 career starts between the longer sprints and the shorter routes.

8- CANDYLICIOUS                (24-1)   nepenthe      J: R. Radzinski

4 Filly    sire: CANDY RIDE   dam: ELUSIVE DANNY (ELUSIVE QUALITY)

Has been on the board in 6 out of 8 dirt sprints with 3 wins.  Last race faded from the lead to finish 8th in a NW3x allowance.  Is making her first attempt at a stakes race at any level.  Put up her best Sp of 104 in a December allowance running 2nd.  Radzinski has twice been in the saddle before garnering 1 third place.

5 Mare    sire: MALIBU MOON    dam: SOUP TO NUTS (UNCLE MO)

Won last race after a 3 month layoff gate to wire in a NW2y allowance in her only sprint distance start.  Has 7 career wins in 21 starts.  Was 7th in G3- NUTCRACKER BC and ran 6th in G3- LOST IN THE WOODS MISERY STAKES.  Put up a 115 SP in the HIDIOUS THE ALPHA DIT MARE ROUTE finishing 2nd.

10- SIDEWALK TALK              (7-1)    cvbear      J: V. Webb

6 Mare   scratchbred   ELUSIVE QUALITY x FOREST WILDCAT x WOODMAN

The oldest horse in this field has been lightly raced having never been in a graded event.  She has hit the board in 13 of 16 dirt sprint starts with 7 victories.  Won her last outing in January putting out a 108 SP in aNW2n allowance after a 2 1/2 month hiatus.

11- SLEW OF SMART               (5-1)       kf            J: P. Lewis

5 Mare    scratchbred   SMART STRIKE x SEATTLE SLEW x WAR FRONT

In March had his 4 race winning streak broken when he came in 12th in the G2- LONG ISLAND SPRINT here at New York.  Prior race won the G3- DAVID FLORES and before that won the G3- LEADING LADY clicking off a 113 SP.  Has 10 wins in 18 dirt sprint races and has triple digit SP’s in 18 of 23 starts.

Comes in off a win in the Y CAT DIRT MARE SPRINT over an off track putting up a 109 SP.  Prior race was 6th in the BELLE TRUMPET DIRT MARE DASH.  Will be going to the gate in a graded race for the first time here.  Has been in the money in 7 out of 10 dirt sprint races with 5 wins.

4 Filly   scratchbred   TAPIT x FORTY NINER x DANZIG

Will be making her first run at a graded race.  Has won 4 out of 6 dirt sprint starts.  Last time out won the BABY NOP DIRT MARE SPECIAL by a nose.  Prior race she put up a 108 SP in the DARING CZAR DIRT MARE MILE finishing in 5th.

4 Filly    sire: MACHO UNO    dam: STORMY SEA (STORM CAT)

Last race went gate to wire ina NW4y allowance victory.  Prior start in her only graded race, ran 10th in the G2- LA ZEBRA.  Before that put out a 111 SP while running 2nd in the POST OAK BLUFF DIRT FILLY SPECIAL.  Has produced 4 wins and 3 seconds in her 9 dirt sprint starts.
