Leopardstown4.
From the Emerald Isle,  outside Dublin at Leopardstown Racecourse,  the Elite Racing Club stages its monthly stakes contest,  the Montjeu.  A field of eight club three year olds,  evenly split between colts and fillies,  will face off at 9.5 furlongs (or ~1900 meters for the metric set),  for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse on tap,  and the triumphant owner/trainer will collect the lion’s share of the stakes bonus points which will crown a club champ by year end.  The main turf course should be firm as fine early spring weather is forecast through the weekend.
.
Some wiki facts:  “the course, built by Captain George Quin and modelled on Sandown Park Racecourse in England, was completed in 1888 and acquired by the Horse Racing Board of Ireland in 1967. Many important races are held here and racing takes place all year round, with about 22 meetings per year. The Leopardstown Hall of Fame honours famous Irish horse racing trainers, jockeys and horses like, Vincent O’Brien, Tom Dreaper, Pat Taaffe and Pat Eddery, Arkle, Dawn Run, Levmoss and Nijinsky.”  The club has had a great time at this venue and we are already looking forward to next year’s event.
.
The always competitive dontbetonme saddles the handicapper’s choice,  SILENT  NOTHINGNESS  at 3/1.  Second billing goes to the always dangerous and well bet barn of harrylan,  whose GALILEO HILL rates just behind the fave at 7/2 on the morning line.  The formidable summerset stable sends out the third selection of the handicapper,  the cleverly named EMERGE AND SEE at 4/1.  Amir’s MONSTRALINO follows at 9/2,  with jbcri’s MILKY CONES  VAPORY and my very own WAI as co-fifth choices at 5/1.   The field is completed by johnkarczewski’s DAERAMAR at 12/1 and  jb3commish’s CHEESE TOUCH,  the 39/1 longest shot on the board.
.
In what looks to be a closely matched group of contenders,  another tight finish appears likely.  Let takes a closer look at them in post position order and see what the figures may reveal.

EMERGE  AND  SEE                                  NZ     3M     claimerz3         E C Doyle         4/1
.
Heading up the post parade is this scratch bred son of Savabeel (by Commands),  who was a fair 4th in his stakes debut last out at 6.5 furlongs in the Party On listed,  zipping a 90 SP# in an even trip.  Bay colt won a NW3L allowance at 7.5 panels in his prior start,  zinging a 91 SP# in a stalking run.  One back of that he won a NW2L allowance at 7 furlongs,  zinging a 96 SP# from mid pack.  Runner from the claimerz3 barn of the summerset racing operation stretches out three furlongs in this spot,  can he get the distance is the question;  handicapper rates him as the 3rd choice on the early line.

GALILEO  HILL                                             IRE     3F     harrylanexp13         D McKane         7/2
.
Hailing from the harrylan racing group is this Galileo guy out of the stakes placed sim mare Street Hill (by Street Cry),  who seeks his third straight after taking a NW2L allowance at 9 furlongs last time over,  smacking a 95 SP# in a mid pack trip.  Lovely bay filly won a NW2L allowance one before that in similar fashion,  striking an 89 SP#.  Her prior outing resulted in her only off the board finish when 6th in a NW2L allowance at a mile,  sticking an 85 SP# while showing a little late interest.  Looks like she can handle the trip and has two wins and a place in three starts over this oval;  2nd choice of the handicapper despite facing males for the first time.

DAERAMAR                                                     IRE    3M     johnkarczewski9     R Flint             12/1
.
Undefeated hot race runner looks for his fourth win in a row after taking an allowance at 10 furlongs,  throwing an 88 SP# from just off the early pace.  Light grey colt won an allowance at 9 panels one back of that,  tossing a 74 SP# in a four horse field.  Scratch bred English Channel equine (by Cozzene) stormed home for the win in her debut at 8.5 furlongs,  tabbing a 78 SP# from the middle of the pack.  Johnkarczewski9 protege makes his first non hot race try,  should handle the distance;  may outrun his 12/1 odds.

 CHEESE  TOUCH                                         PA     3M     jb3ref             K Bedwell         39/1
.
Handicapper has no love at 39/1 for this Ventana vaper out of the sim mare Swiss Cheese (by Swiss Yodeler),  who tired to 7th first off the claim at this route,  earning a 78 SP# chasing the pace setter.  Bay colt won the $5,000 claimer at 7.5 furlongs he was claimed out of,  eking out a 66 SP# in a wire to wire score.  In his previous outing he just failed to hold on at 8.25 panels in a maiden claimer,  etching a 76 SP# after setting the early fractions.  Runner from the jb3ref stable seems outclassed with these;  may be part of the early pace battle but unlikely to be involved in the decision.

Your humble correspondent enters this scratch bred Frankel femme (by Mr Prospector),  who exits a front running victory in a local bred allowance at 5 furlongs,  busting a 90 SP#.  Bay filly settled for 2nd in her prior start at 7 panels against males in a local bred allowance,  banking an 88 SP# on the front end.  One before that she failed to hold on when 2nd in a NW2L allowance at three quarters of a mile,  bagging an 85 SP# setting the early fractions.  She looks to be the main speed in this lineup,  stretches way out but could surprise if allowed to control the early pace.

MILKY CONES  VAPORY                     ENG     3F     jbcri71             J Bradley         5/1
.
Striking bay filly exits a smashing triumph in a NW2L allowance at a mile,  whacking a 95 SP# in a last to first move.  Sea The Moon sistah,  out of the stakes placed sim he-mare Fast N Long (by Lemon Drop Kid),  got up for 2nd one before that in the Fire Shield listed stakes at 7.5 panels,  wrangling an 87 SP# moving from last of five.  In her prior run she closed well for 2nd in a local bred allowance at a mile,  whipping up an 88 SP# from the back of the pack.  Late running Jbcri71 trainee would like swift early fractions,  should be a stretch factor on top try.

MONSTRALIANO                                        IRE     3M     amir1641         A Ebert         9/2
.
Buratino babbalu,  out of the graded placed sim mare Australian Dancer (by Australia),  was an even 3rd in latest,  the Crosstown Traffic listed stakes at this distance,  copping a 94 SP# in a four horse field.  Big bay colt showed some late foot in previous outing in the Mario Bar listed at 8.5 furlongs,  crushing a 99 SP# from the back of the pack.  He won a local bred allowance at 8.5 furlongs over this oval one before that,  cashing an 85 SP# in a last to first move.  Runner from the amir1641 mega stable should be gaining late in the lane,  could get there on best.

 SILENT  NOTHINGNESS                     IRE     3F     dontbetonme7     G Tiggle         3/1

Last out of the tunnel on to the track is our morning line favorite,  who comes out of a closing 2nd in the Sunshine Hollandia listed stakes at 9 furlongs,  flashing a 95 SP# while ending a three stakes win streak.  In her prior try this striking bay filly took the Toms Kool Kamikazi listed at 6.5 panels,  flinging an 89 SP# in a front running performance. Scratch bred Invincible Spirit imp (by Nureyev),  came from off the pace to win the Blues Dive listed at 5 furlongs one back of that,  flipping an 86 SP#.  Dontbetonme7 entry likes to win (6 of 11),  has finished off the board only once;  handicapper likes her chances,  touting her as the morning line favorite at 3/1.

Good luck everybody,  and may they all come fast, safe and sound.
