Nine budding stars of the Older turf Stakes division will be trying to end a remarkable four race win streak put together by sabbath6 stables,  Tete Barzio who has accumulated over one million in earnings.  Three of his wins have come in this his five year old season.

The connection of Tete Barzio have been sim royalty for nearly 20 years resulting in many wins and several Group 1 wins.  The word Tete has graced many a horses raced and bred by the sabbath organization.  He will surely be backed hard with connection that know how to win.

Looking at today’s wonderful field of ten it’s really hard to separate the cream.  There are 3 other group 1 winners,  Artistic Mission , Impacto Monstruo, and Rhaegar’s Rage.  After one prep race will Artistic Mission be ready to throw down?  Impacto Monstruo was just successful in the 10f  Queen’s Spring Cup (G1) in Hong Kong, will he have more in the tank, and Rhaegar’s Rage who has well over 1 million in purse earnings and recent Grade 2 success may have something to say.  Whatever happens on Sunday I’m sure fans will be standing and clapping for the Group 1 winner who takes the prize.

1.) Tete Barzio  (Dutch Art (GB) X Rock Of Gibraltar)  21 starts (10-2-2) Grade 1 winner of 1,005, 465 , son of GP mare Tete Of Gibraltar

Four stakes wins in a row with the Gr 1 Manha Manha Challenge the most recent leads me to think the rest of the group will be trying to find a way to beat this wonderful horse of sabbath6 stable.  The jock R Gibson will again get the leg up after wins in his last two races.  Talking to the jockey it was simple to see the confidence he feels when Tete Barzio is underneath him.   R Gibson believe’s that all he needs is a clean trip.

I’ll support this horse today even at a short price of 3-1 .   Really tough to beat winning connection on the best horse.

2.) Over Jo (Twice Over (GB) X Johannesburg ) 19 starts (3-3-0) Grade 2 winner of 372,760, son of GP mare Jo Han Ho Ho

This 4 yr old son of Twice Over recently was gelded and had a decent first race back after a minor break.  The connection “stable92″ recently purchased Over Jo  for 55,000 which would be simply remarkable if he was to get a piece of this race.  Looking back he did come out of nowhere to win the 9.5 F Upper Califonia Gr 2 .  Possible?  Yes,  but I’m going to build a ticket without Over Jo.

3.) Artistic Mission  (Noble Mission (GB) X Danehill Dancer) 16 starts (7-1-3) Grade 1 winner of 2,649,210, son of alw winning mare Artistic Dancer

The 4 yr old bay horse of the coolk7 connections has struggled as of late not hitting the board in his last two starts.  This race may be the race that determines if he will remain in the upper ranks of the older turf division.  Considering the resume that this guy sports it’s really hard to ignore his chances to possible bounce back into form.  He’s lightly raced and only four yrs of age so don’t count him out.  At odds of 10-1 , I’ll use him in all exotic plays.

4.) Harman’s Cross  (Dansili (IRE) X Galileo (IRE) 15 starts (4-4-1) stakes winner of 175,010, son of Gr3 winning mare  Bracknell

The connections of Harman’s Cross are really reaching in my opinion.  The stable of rubiano06 are realists and they stated that they are hoping for a check, possible 4th or 5th.   The conditioner stated that with the race coming up a little light he felt that it was a chance to battle with the big boys.  He feels that with a little racing luck a check is possible.

I’ll be taking a stand against the huge class jumping colt.

5.) Dawn Window  ( Dawn Approach (IRE) X Danehill Dancer) 18 starts (6-1-4) Group 2 winner of 869,514, son of Gr2 winner Prabhu Deva

This group 2 winner has recently shown that there’s still a spark under the hood,  hitting the board in several graded races.  Last summer this colt of Bathbunk3 won back to back gr2 races. It would not be a shock for him to step up against this type of competition. The connection stated that he’s a one run type who settle’s nicely and usually get’s a good trip.  They also stated that he is really easy to handle and a joy to be around.   We want to get a grade 1 for him which will make him much more marketable after his racing days are over.

I’ll use him in the 2nd, and 3rd placing at 5/1

6.) Wenty’s Charm ( Charm Spirit (IRE)  X Al-Mana-Mou) 10 starts (2-3-1) GR 3 placed winner of 333,930 ,Scratch Bred

Last out saw this group/graded place runner owned and trained by grundy battle with the undefeated (6 f0r 6 ) and fast climbing Banditfrank of Banditfarm.

The four yr old son of Charm Spirit has shown a very quick turn of foot and a fighting spirit that could be the sign of a star in the making.  The connection were very happy with his last start and think he’s got a shot if he takes another step forward.

I’m not a big fan of the cutback in distance.  He should have a possible run at them in the end but will he run out of ground?  I’ll use in the exotics 3 and 4 holes.

7.) Impacto Monstruo ( Deep Impact X Montjeu) 10 starts (4-2-1)  Gr1 winner of 570,566 out of the SP mare Bopatrol

This lightly raced four yr old gelding looks to be the main threat to Tete Barzio and with any improvement may just take the next step to stardom.  The connection desimster3 have really guided this horse in the right way.  Building his confidence by placing him in the right races at the right time.  If Impacto Monstruo  win’s on Sunday it would be no surprise.  Whatever happens on Sunday this versatile runner will be a big part of race.  I’ll use him top and bottom with Tete Barzio several times.

8.) Mepaphysical (Masked Marvel (GB) X Kingmambo) 25 starts (8-8-2) GR1 placed winner of 818,778 son of ALW winner cccXVI

It’s been a long time since Mepaphysical has seen any success against graded competition.  Last summer he nearly hung on in the Gr1  Gold Glass at 16F but has struggled since that great effort.  His connection judesheen  feel that he may be losing his desire to race.  Works very well in the mornings but really struggles on race days.  He gets a little hot which has resulted in him washing out a bit at times.  We will be evaluating the race very closely today and make a decision later in the week.

Pass on this horse

9.) Rhaegar’s Rage (Giant’s Causeway X Daiwa Major) 14 starts (8-2-2) Gr1  winner of 1,255,620, son of Gr1 winning mare of over 5 million , Rhaegar’s Fury.

This Grade 1 winner seems to have reached peak form and will play a huge role in the outcome of today’s running of “The Prince Of Whales. The four year old son of Giant’s Causeway is coming off a Gr2 win in the “The Delta  Republic” in Italy, where he took back and made the big deep stretch move that propelled him to a  victory of 2 1/2 length’s.  Rhaegar’s Rage is capable of tracking closer to the lead if the pace is a little soft.

The connection of aryahound2 have called on familiar jock D. Given who played a big part in getting the horse ready to race early in his career Jockey D. Given was aboard for his maiden win and also The Renaldo’s Sword turf route at 8.5 F.

The connections are excited for the race this weekend as they believe that “Rhaegar’s Rage is ready for a big performance.

Group 1 races have been tough for this guy scoring his first last June and going 0/3 since.  Off his most recent form I will use him in all gimmicks in the second and third spot.  It would not be a surprise if he won but i’ll leave him off the top spot with extreme reservation.

10.) Fokker Fighter (Dansili (GB) X Montjeu) starts 14 (6-1-1) Stakes winner of 253,399 , scratch bred

Tackling such a tough group in your first Gr1 is tough to ask of this four yr old. Will this well bred four yr old prove us wrong. Jumping into these shark infested waters may be just what jbcri09 stables ordered.  The connections of Fokker Fighter feel that their wonderful colt has matured to a level that he deserves a shot against the big boys.  We are looking to open a few people’s eye’s in the “Prince Of Whales”.

I’ll draw a line through this one because of the lack of graded race experience….. In Tough

  1. Thanks for the article! (Since I got mentioned I guess I’ll lose… that’s what always happens!) :-)

  2. Thanks for or the write up!! Mephaphysical an absolute Hail Mary!!!!!

  3. Thanks for the write up! My 55K auction pick up will get one last shot at the Graded ranks since he did a little prep race. Not expecting much, but he could surprise me. My grandpa always said “you can’t win if you don’t play.”
