Francua Chronicles: Profitable Saturday

This past Saturday may have been the best I’ve had since I started back in January/February. I sent out 13 runners 4 of which came back winners with 3 others finishing ITM. Among the winners there were a couple who broke their maiden and a few who won some allowance races.

Last Week’s Watch List:

SILENT MOTIVE (CREATIVE CAUSE x SUNDAY SILENCE x ECLIPTICAL) – Another underwhelming comeback for a 2 year old that showed some promise first out. After a 2nd place finish going 5.5 furlongs on the turf I gave him a stretch out to 6 furlongs hoping that’d be enough to get him over the hump. Unfortunately he didn’t care for the stretch out and ended up losing ground in the stretch, finishing 6th by 3 lengths.

CHEST CANDY (CANDY RIDE x HENNESSY x SEEKING THE GOLD) – Coming back off a 4th place finish in her debut that saw her post a 73 speed fig and lose by only a length. She got a bump in competition to maiden 56K’s and ran well finishing 2nd by a length and a quarter. I’m thinking she’s going to want a bit more distance so we will stretch her out a bit in her next.

CLEVAR GIRL (SUPER SAVER x UNBRIDLED x A.P. INDY) – 4 ITM finishes in a row and she draws an easier field with only 3 other foes. She wins this one easy and finally breaks the maiden. I still have no clue what to really do with her in the next but I’m sure I’ll figure something out.

NEW MEXICAN MORN (SLEEPLESS MORN x ARCH x AWESOME AGAIN) – Formally a claim for 3K he’s run three times prior to this week’s run that resulted in a 1st place finish with maiden 20K’s, a 3rd place finish in a local championship race, and lastly a 2nd place finish against allowance 60K’s. In his most recent he ran a bang up 8 furlongs that saw him wire the field and post up his second consecutive 101 speed fig. Since claiming him he’s brought in a total of 95 BPs and almost 60K in cash. Not bad for a 3K buy.

MAGNETIC MOON (MALIBU MOON x STREET CRY x STORM BIRD) – He finished 3rd posting a 72 speed fig in the debut and he’s another coming back under the same conditions. He got a sloppy track this go around and he improved quite a bit showing some good stalking ability and running away from the field to a first place finish. I’m a little worrisome that he benefitted from the sloppy track though. I’m hoping that’s not the only reason he was able to win so easily.

CALM AGGRESSION (VAR x INDIAN CHARLIE x DEHERE) – She’s another who didn’t enjoy the stretch out as much as I thought she might. She tried to wire the field going 6 furlongs against allowance company but faded in the stretch to 5th. She may get one more race before I shut her down for the 3-year old season.

Studs:

RHYTHYM SHOOTER (I AM INVINCIBLE (AUS) x DUBAI MILLENIUM x SWORD DANCE) – He’s a little speed ball that wired the field in his debut at 5 furlongs which was good enough for a 74 speed fig. He was brought back to run against 29K allowance horses under the same conditions in hopes that he could repeat the effort; and that he did. He’d go on to wire this field as well and improve to a 78 speed fig.  I’ll be looking for a listed stakes race for him in his next.

FOREST SEA (OASIS DREAM (GB) x SEA THE STARS x FORESTRY) – I believe I bought this 2-year old gelding for a buck in the auction. She was pretty unimpressive in his first three performances which is why I got him for so cheap, but I thought some rest and a stretch out in distance might give him a bit of help and that it did. After 8 weeks off he got the stretch to 7 furlongs and almost wired the field. He’d get passed in the stretch finishing 3rd by about a length. He earned a 70 speed fig which was much improved from the low 60’s he’d previously put up.

SNITZELRIDGE (SNITZEL x DISTROTED HUMOR x PASS THE TAB) – 32nd time is the charm for this guy. After chasing that elusive 2nd victory he’d finally get it against 25K claimers in the slop where he’d wire the field. He was claimed for $7,500 and 15 BPs and in two races has already paid for himself.

SPEARMINT POLO (PIONEEROF THE NILE x RAINBOW QUEST x HIGHT TOP) – I really like this guy and think he’s kind of a grinder. Since I claimed him for 30K he’s come back and finished 3rd twice; once in a 75K claiming event and most recently in a 10 furlong special weight event. He’s a late mover so I’m going to keep tacking on the distance to see if that helps him out.

IMPULSE TO SWEAR (SWEAR (AUS) x FRAC DADDY x DYNAFORMER) – She’s an interesting one. I didn’t know what I had when I first ran her so she debuted with 50K maiden claimers and she won easily. Not wanting to give her too much to fast I brought her back against allowance 9K’s and she ran decent finishing 3rd by 5 lengths. I’m still unsure if the 6 furlongs was too short for her or if she was just a bit out classed. I guess we will learn more in her next race.

I AM MARMALADE (I AM INVINCIBLE (AUS) x ALL TOO HARD (AUS) x COMMANDS (AUS)) – She broke the maiden at first asking going 5.5 furlongs on the turf with maiden 16K’s. She came back to run against a 5 horse allowance field at 6 furlongs that saw her finish 2nd by .25 lengths.

BROADANDBRUSH (SONGANDAPRAYER x HUSSONET x BROAD BRUSH) – I bought this colt in the auction back in April and he’s given me some pretty bad losing efforts in short fields where he was heavily favored. However, this time he surprised me with a victory against NW2L 30K claimer this week. And to think I was on the brink of dropping him back into the auction.

Duds:

FIVE STAR CLASSIC (DIALED IN x ARCH x ICECAPADE) – Posted a 45 speed fig in the debut going 5.5 furlongs on the dirt so she was brought back on the turf where she somehow managed to do worse. I decided to shut her down for the year and we will try again after she turns 3 year’s old.

MIDNIGHT MAYHEM (MIDNIGHT LUTE x STORMY ATLANTIC x SOUTHERN HALO) – He came in with a disappointing debut finishing 5th by 8 lengths going 6 on the dirt. I decided to give turf a whirl and while he improved slightly in the speed fig department he still didn’t do much. Next up for him is a cut in distance along with a cut in class before he hits the shelf for the rest of the year.

IN WAVES (ORB x BIG BROWN x CURLIN) – He broke the maiden going 5 furlongs on the dirt in his last out and was brought back against allowance company at 5.5 furlongs. He didn’t stand much of a chance out there as he was out run from the onset and finished 8th by 7 lengths.

Next Weeks’ Watch List:

STREET ASSOCIATE (VERRAZANO x STREET CRY x MACHIAVELLIAN) – Getting a chance to stretch his legs in this 8 furlong route on the turf, after the two stints at 6.5 furlongs proved unfruitful.

GREEN MINESTER (MINESHAFT x KRIS S. x STORM BIRD) -Making the debut at 8 furlongs on the dirt against maiden 50K’s.

MEAN MUGGIN (SHAMARDAL x PIVOTAL x MONSUN) – Makes the debut going 8 furlongs on the turf against maiden 50K’s.

COPPER STOUT (DANSILI x MONSUN x MISWAKI) – Ran a great debut race closing from off the pace to get up for the victory. He gets some added distance in an 8 furlong affair on the turf that drew in some pretty solid horses.

KILLER SHAKE (SHAKIN IT UP x HUSSONET x PULPIT) – He’s been great since I grabbed him in the auction back in March. He’s got two victories with the upper echelon claimers and is dropped into a starter allowance at 7 furlongs on the turf that drew quite a few good horses. He’s either going to make me proud or bring me back down to Earth.

HOMEMADE SCOTCH (POINT OF ENTRY x EMPIRE MAKER x NUREYEV) – She makes her debut against maiden 56K’s on the turf.

GENUINE OUTLAW (CURLIN x HARLAN’S HOLIDAY x UNBRIDLED’S SONG) – after a disappointing 4th place finish in her debut she comes back to run against maiden 22K’s at 8 furlongs on the dirt.
