From the Fair Grounds racino in New Orleans,  Louisiana the Elite Racing Club puts on its monthly event,  the Nyquist.  Some wikitrivia:  as early as 1839 Bernard de Marigny, Julius C Branch and Henry Augustine Tayloe, organized races at the “Louisiana Race Course” laid out on Gentilly Road, making it the second oldest site of horse racing in America still in operation, after Freehold Raceway and before the Saratoga Race Course.  In 1852 it was renamed the Union Race Course,  the first of many name changes and periods of activity through the years.  In 2009, the Horseplayers Association of North America introduced a rating system for 65 Thoroughbred racetracks in North America. Of the top fifteen,  New Orleans Fair Grounds was ranked #12, behind Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, Louisiana, which was ranked #6.
.
Club managing director summerset is reportedly going all out to accommodate the club this weekend – and those reports so far ring true.  The southern hospitality has been on display and we’ve had a fine time thus far,  with bigger and better surprises in store right up to post time.  As for the race,  we have a field of eight club freshman runners,  including three upset minded fillies,  who will face off for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse on tap.  They’ll travel seven furlongs (or ~1400 meters for the metric set) over what will be a fast dirt surface,  thanks to the break in the wet weather of late.  As usual,  the winning owner/trainer will also collect the lion’s share of the club’s stakes bonus points,  which in turn determine a club champion by year’s end.
.
The fillies have been more than holding their own in the residency stakes so far this year,  and look for another upset here.  Let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see what the figures may reveal.

WORTHY  IS  THY  NAME                     SAF     2F     newnewfydowns     $40,090     2.0    10/1
.
Heading up the post parade is the first of our distaff runners,  this beautiful bay filly,  who was 6th last out in ERC’s American Pharoah at six furlongs,  floating a 69 SP# after showing some early interest.  Trippi tabby,  out of the sim mare Testimony Day (by Point Of Entry) was an even 3rd one back of that in a NW3L allowance at 5.5 panels,  flinging a 66 SP#.  She broke her maiden in her prior outing at 4.5 furlongs,  flipping a 66 SP# as part of the early pace duel.  Newfydowns trainee faces the guys again,  will need to improve to handle the top ones in this heat.

UNBRIDLED  FEAR                                    KY     2M     mightyforego20     $58,585     2.0    5/2
.
Bucking bay colt exits a tenacious 2nd in a local bred allowance at 7.5 panels,  smoking an 83 SP# after an early pace duel.  Scratch bred Awesome Again athlete (by Unbridled) was an OK 5th one before that in his stakes debut in the Forty With Polar listed stakes at 6.5 furlongs,  stabbing a 79 SP# in an even trip.  He got his initial score in an open maiden at three-quarters of a mile,  sticking a 75 SP# in a stalking run.  Runner from the formidable mightyforego20 racing operation should be prominent early,  may go on with it on top try;  handicapper likes his chances as the 5/2 second choice on the morning line.

LADY  COMMISH                                          KY     2F     jb3pigskin         $50,770      0.0    9/1
.
Warrior’s Reward waif,  out of the graded placed,  stakes winning sim mare Cadillac Blumenshi (by City Zip),  tired to 4th after pressing the pace last out in the Valid Punch listed stakes at 5.5 furlongs,  banking a 73 SP# in her stakes debut.  Blossoming bay filly wired a local bred maiden one back of that at 5 furlongs,  bashing a 71 SP#.  Her prior try was a tiring 6th at 6 panels in an open maiden,  bagging a 64 SP# in an even trip.  Runner from the jb3pigskin barn of the jb3commish racing group should be part of the early maneuvering,  could hang on for a share with any further improvement.

WELLESLEY                                                       KY    2M    empirehouse3        $3,000        0.00    5/1
.
Brash bay colt broke his maiden last out in a hot race at 6.5 furlongs,  drilling a 63 SP# making all the pace.  Scratch bred son of Speightstown (by Deputy Minister) tired to 9th in his debut in an open maiden at 6 panels,  drawing a 58 SP# after contending in the early fractions.  Runner from the empirehouse3 barn of the johnkarczewski racing group should help to make for a lively pace,  will need to step forward to be in the mix at the wire.

SIMMERED                                                         KY     2M     bulldogtoo         $58,720     8.0    2/1
.
Scratch bred Speightstown stepper (by Broad Brush),  was a gaining 2nd last time over in the June ERC event American Pharoah at six panels,  whacking a 74 SP# in a mid pack trip.  Boisterous bay colt took his debut in an open maiden,  also at 6 furlongs,  wrangling a 76 SP# in a stretch running effort.  Harrylan protege from the bulldogtoo barn gets an extra eighth for his late kick;  top entry pointer entrant is a solid contender and the handicapper’s choice at 2/1 on the morning line.

NYQUIST’S  PULPIT                                   KY     2M     dontbetonme14     $64,630     4.0    5/1
.
Big bay colt steps up seeking a third straight score after taking a NW1x allowance at 5.5 furlongs,  popping an 80 SP# in a stalking run.  Scratch bred Nyquist nipper (by Pulpit) closed from mid pack one back of that to get his first victory in an open maiden at 5.5 panels,  running down the leaders from mid pack,  pounding a 76 SP#.  In his prior try he was 2nd in an open maiden at 4.5 furlongs,  pasting a 66 SP# prompting the early pace.  He has shown some versatility early in his career,  jockey tactics could be key to his chances.  And owner/trainer dontbetonme is always a threat in these affairs.

TALE  OF  THE  EARTH                           KY     2M     albertdowns         $13,750     4.0    9/1
.
Owner/trainer dunvilledowns sends out this Tale Of Ekati tussler out of the sim mare Seekherintheearth (by Falbrav),  who was runnerup for the third straight race ,  most recently at 5.5 furlongs in a NW1x allowance,  throwing a 75 SP# from just off the early leaders.  Bruising bay colt was 2nd one before that in the same condition at 4.5 panels,  tabbing  63 SP# chasing a wire to wire winner.  In his previous start he settled for 2nd after getting the lead at 5 furlongs in an open maiden,  tossing a 71 SP# from mid pack.  Runner from the albertdowns barn looks for a cure for his seconditis affliction,  should be present in the stretch run.

FREAKING  STAR                                          IL     2F     jbcri81             $26,115     2.0    16/1
.
Club co-founder jbcri81 saddles this buff brown filly off a game 2nd in a local bred allowance at 6 furlongs,  copping a 70 SP# while just behind the winner at each call.  Guest Star gem,  out of the sim mare Candy Dancer (by Twirling Candy) closed well for 2nd one back of that in a NW2L allowance at 6 panels,  cashing a 71 SP#.  In her previous start she was 2nd best at 5.5 furlongs in a starter allowance,  casting a 57 SP# chasing the winner around the course.  Another looking for a seconditis cure should be part of the early pace scenario;  extra distance here may help,  but needs to move forward to threaten these.

Good luck everybody,  and may they all come home fast,  safe and sound.  And a big thanks to summerset for making the trip memorable – again.
