Beat Freedom Turf Special
Ohio, Saturday, September 15, 2018. Firm Turf, 9.5 Furlongs, Restricted to 3 Year Olds
Post Time: 1:30 p.m.
For health and safety reasons, mine in particular I thought I would stay away from the East Coast tracks with hurricane Florence bearing down. So I have decided this week I would avoid the chaos and head for Ohio to see the Beat Freedom Turf Special where a nice field of nine colts and geldings will be going 9.5 furlongs on Firm Turf for a purse of $100,000. The morning line odds and post positions have now been set. Let us go take a little preview of this nice field of nice horses as they go head to head in the Buckeye State as they prepare for the Beat Freedom Turf Special.
Horse/Odds Owner Jockey
1. Taprophetic 6/1 waiting D Givins
Sired by Tapit and was a Stakes winner his last time out in the Otto Oh No Turf Memorial. He ran a nice 109 speed rating and went wire to wire to get up by ¾ of a length. In Graded company he has struggled, but in small stakes races he has shown to be very competitive. If he can do a repeat of that last outing with that speed he will be competitive again here today.
2. Outback Barbule 8/1 outback5 A Scott
In his nice career starts all but one has been on the dirt. In his last outing he switched over to turf which he seemed to take well to. He ran in Indiana on 07/29/2018 at 8.25 furlongs in that outing on the turf in a $30,000 Allowance where he grabbed the lead in the stretch and best the field by 1 ½ lengths. He has never gone 9.5 furlongs or better before and comes in with little turf experience. He will need to prove himself a competitor at this distance and surface.
3. Derby The Dog 9/1 adschus07 S Green
Sired by Take Charge Indy this colt has shown some struggles in several of his recent prior outings. He last ran on 07/28/2018 in Delaware in an attempt for The Luchadores Del Gato Stakes where he never founds his legs finished a disappointing 13th and was 17 ½ lengths off the lead at the wire. He has gone the distance before, but will need to find a little more gas in the tank against this crowd.
4. Theatrical Heart 6/1 mravenger N Bonus
In his last outing which was his first stakes attempt on 08/04/2018 in Minnesota where he ran in the Canasha Turf Special he showed he could complete at the stakes level and picked up a nice 2nd place finish with a 107 speed rating. He is experienced going the distance, so this should not be a negative factor for him today. If he can repeat what he did in his last outing he will be a horse to watch in this race. He was bred in Japan and sired by Heart’s Cry. He seems to enjoy coming from the back of the field or off the pace in his best outings.
5. Too High To Count 5/1 rrlogans R Logan
In his last outing he went back to try a run on the dirt and found that experience to be disappointing on 08/18/2018 out in California in a NW4L Allowance of which he finished 7th in that race. He is coming back to the turf and has a couple of stakes placings in his career. He has successfully shown the distance will not be an issue for him in this race. He has a top speed rating of 105 and he will need to find that again to compete with this nice field of colts. He is the only gelding in this race today.
6. Truth Is Clear 9/2 abcde9 P Munoz
This Australian bred colt last raced in the Seattle Habital Turf Mile in Brazil on 08/12/2018 of which he finished 5th in the field. This was his first stakes attempt. He was claimed back in March of this year and has taken well to the training of his new owner and trainer showing steady improvement. He ran a top speed of 106 in that last stakes outing. He could be a factor to watch here today coming down the stretch.
7. Desert Voyage 6/1 super10 N Armstrong
In his last outing on 08/04/2018 in Minnesota in the Canasha Turf Special he picked up another stakes place as he came in 3rd some 3 ¼ lengths back at the wire. He hit a top speed of 105 in that race going 10 furlongs. In his 11 career turf starts he has only found himself off the boards once and that was back in October of last year. I think he should be another tough competitor in this field.
8. Powerwasher 7/1 ajhsstable L Ingersoll
A stakes placing horse as a 2 year old is coming back as a 3 year old once again to throws his name in the hat. He has recently had a couple of nice Allowance runs and seems to like going the two turns and longer distance. His last two outings he found a speed of 105 in both those Allowance races. As he steps back up in class here against a tough field he will need to prove he can find those speeds and better at the stakes level. He is a good horse to watch as he takes a step up here.
9. Nuka Archer 4/1 simsters8 F Mac
The only Graded winner in the field. He is a G1 winner and has run at that level in his last three outings. This colt sired by Kitten’s Joy should be a crowd favorite at the betting window as he takes a step down in class for this race. He is also the top money winner in this field. He breaks from the outside post and likes to run up front. He may need to use a little extra gas to find himself placed where he likes running. In his last outing he ran on 08/12/2018 in the Big Red Stakes in Illinois and placed 3rd in that G1 event. Distance is no issue here for him and he may be the horse to beat here with that 109 speed rating in his last outing against Graded company.
Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race. Most importantly have fun!!!
1. Nuke Archer: Has too much going for him to bet against him in this race.
2. Taprophetic: Could cause trouble up front and find the wire first.
3. Theatrical Heart: Should be stalking the leaders and try to grab a win here.
Tarton’s Long Shot
Desert Voyage at 6/1 looks like he could possibly upset this field with a good effort if he can find a little more in the gas tank. Has only ever been off the boards once in 11 starts so don’t count him out.
