Track Conditions: Firm Turf

Post Time: Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.

After being in Kansas all week I started looking for another race to preview.  I found one that caught my eye over in Newmarket, England.  It is a nice little turf race for 2 year old fillies going 6.5 furlongs in the Miraris Wake Turf Juvenile.  There are a lot of nice looking fillies in this race and I expect it to be hard fought for most all contenders.  There is one Listed Stakes winning filly in the race and the rest will be contending to put their first Stakes win in their bonnet.   The morning line odds and post positions have been set.  Let’s go take a look at these nice looking fillies as they get ready for Saturday’s race.

Horse/Odds                                                       Owner                                  Jockey

1.  Si You At Dyna  6/1                                     coagulate5                          P Bangs

She gets a nice jockey on top for the race in P Bangs.  In her two most recent Allowance outing she has shown up the bridesmaid at the wire losing both by just ¼ length.  In her last outing on 09/17/2018 here in Newmarket she ran her top speed of 80 at a distance of 6.5 furlongs.  She could contend here against this crowd drawing a favorable post.

2.  Recluse Racehorse  13/1                         coachcal                               M Kelly

Her last two outings have found her in Hot Races of which she won both.  One was on the turf and one on the dirt where she gave a better performance.  The morning line odds makers dinged her today I am sure due to her last two outings and her speed ratings.  She will need to find extra to contend with this group.

3.  Went By Ya Now  10/1                              fastvett                                                T Ace

She comes to the party with Stakes experience but all such efforts remain fruitless.  Her last win came back in June going 6.5 furlongs in an Allowance race hosted by URC Residency.  From there she entered a G1 then a G2 and then a Listed Stakes.  She will need to find a little more gas in the tank to get her picture taken.

4.  VT Regius  4/1                                              dynoflag                              T Brewer

She just broke her maiden on 09/08/2018 here in Newmarket going 6.5 furlongs.  She does not have an Allowance win and has not raced in Allowance company.  Her top speed of 81 came in her last outing.  If she can hold that speed or improve on it she might show up to contend in this race.  Having a nice jockey for the ride should be helpful.

5.  Liena Spirit  6/1                                            01cencallmoney               B Beaton

Back on 06/30/2018 she found herself in 3rd only a ½ length off the lead at the wire in the Donna Hollandia Turf Juvenile going a distance of 6.5 furlongs.  In her last outing in the Mythical Cat Turf Juvenile she posted her top speed of 79 but showed up 5th at the wire.  She will be looking to put another feather in her cap but may need a little more speed down the stretch.

6.  Moonlight Shade  13/1                             keystables                          J Ledwith

Another stakes placing filly in the crowd which she found in her last outing on 08/25/2018 in the Burnt Affair Turf Juvenile in Spain going 6 furlongs.  She hit her top speed to date of 78 when she came in 3rd at the wire just ¾ lengths off the lead.  She should be watched if she can step it up a little more as she has done in past outings.

7.  Sanitary Landfill  9/2                                  maxy                                     D Evans

The morning line odds makers give her the nod today as their favorite.  In her last outing she went 7 furlongs on 09/08/2018 in the Anubis Warrior Turf Juvenile.  She came in 5th some 3 lengths back, but she posted an 81 speed.  She has continued to improve those speeds with each outing.  She grabs a nice jockey for the mount and should contend coming off the pace.

8.  Marie Rambert  7/1                                   loobylu3                               A Jolly

With three career starts she has yet to find herself off the boards.  She has shown nice improvement with every race.  This will be her first try against stakes company as she seeks to hit the boards again.  In her last outing she ran here in Newmarket at 6.5 furlongs in a NW2L Allowance for $29,200 from which she was stalking the lead and showed up in the winner’s circle besting the field by ¾ of a length.  She looks good and drew a decent jockey to take the ride.  She may be a good contender against this field.

9.  A Single Spirit  6/1                                      sharpfocus                          T Small

She had a very disappointing last outing in the G3 The Calvados Stakes going 7 furlongs back on 8/11/2018 where she finished 8th in that race 6 ¾ back at the wire.  This is the only race in her four career starts of which she has not been on the boards.  She comes in well rested and grabs a nice jockey on top for this race.  If she can bounce back from her last outing she could be a horse that can compete in this field.  Look for her to head to the front mid turn.

10.  Duck For Life 7/1                                      gael1                                     B Wu

The only stakes winner in the field and the top money winner comes in after a disappointing last outing.  She ran on 09/01/2018 in the G1 More Glare Stakes where she posted her top speed of 81, but it was not enough and she found herself 6th at the wire and 3 lengths off the leader.  The speeds she is posting continue to improve with each race and thus makes her a contender here.  She has a familiar jockey riding and she could disappoint her contenders at the wire.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Skippy’s Picks

1.  Sanitary Landfill:  She looks good for this race and should be a contender to get to the wire first.

2.  Duck For Life:  Steps down in class and keeps showing speed improvements.  She should be in there.

3.  A Single Spirit: Also steps down in class from last outing and is well rested for this attempt.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Marie Rambert at 7/1 goes for her first stakes run.  Has never been off the boards in her three starts.  She could show up and spoil.
