The Elite Racing Club goes down under to Cluden Racecourse in Cluden,  city of Townsville,  Queensland,  Australia for this month’s stakes event,  the REDOUTE’S  CHOICE.  Some Cluden wikitrivia:  The place is important in demonstrating the evolution or pattern of Queensland’s history.  The 1896 structures at Cluden racecourse in Townsville illustrate the importance of horse racing in Queensland, which was the earliest organised sport in the colony and was the first sporting institution in Townsville. In the nineteenth century, horses were the main form of transport and were used in warfare, police work and many industries. Racing them was thought to improve the general quality of the breed as well as being an entertainment and was officially encouraged. The breeding, training and racing of horses has been important in Queensland as an industry in its own right and the quality of facilities on an early racecourse such as Cluden demonstrates this.
.
A well matched field of eight freshman club runners,  including an upstart filly,  get it on for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse on tap, with the winning owner collecting the majority of the stakes bonus points usually awarded,  though they’ll be chasing the runnerup prizes after harrylan clinched the club championship with an emphatic win in the Distorted Humor last month.  Harry has the improving FRANKELS’S EDGE going into the gate.
.
The always dangerous dontbetonme sends out the lone grade winner (G3) KRIS S. KAMEHAMEHA,  the leading entry point entrant.  Co founder jbcri, and jb3 saddle the other stakes winners in here,  AUTHORIZED FLIGHT and AN OBSESSION,  respectively.  Larrcamp gets in on the fun with GENERAL BRAGS,  while the downs boys,  dunnville and newfy put forth TUHINGA O MUA and WAIRUA KAHA.  Cant wait for this race call !
.
Improving two year olds can always provide surprises.  Let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see what can be seen.

WAIRUA  KAHA                                          NZ     2M     downsontherock     J Harzheim         7/1
.
Heading up the post parade is this boisterous bay colt,  who comes off a fair 5th in the September ERC stakes at 7 furlongs on “good” turf,  getting a 77 SP# from mid pack.  Darci Brahma dude out of the sim mare One Strong Spirit (by Invincible Spirit),  closed well for 3rd one back of that in an open allowance at 7 panels,  garnering an 80 SP# from the middle of the pack.  His prior try was a win in a NW1x allowance at 5.5 furlongs,  grabbing a 62 SP# in a four horse affair.  Runner from the downsontherock barn of the newfydowns racing group looks to get back on the winning tack,  may be along for minor share on top try.

 GENERAL  BRAGS                                    IRE     2M     larrcamp1         C Wyatt         7/1
.
Larrcamp,  fresh off a good 2nd last month in just his second ERC stakes outing,  saddles this big bay colt off a nice 3rd at 7 furlongs in a NW2L allowance,  busting an 83 SP# in an even trip.  Scratch bred Zoffany zipper (by Red Ransom),  was 5th around the course one before that in a NW3L allowance at 5.5 panels,  bagging a 75 SP#.  One back of that he was a fading 5th after dueling on the lead in the same condition at 6.5 furlongs,  banking a 76 SP#.  Steps way up here,  may appreciate extra distance but others look stronger.

 AUTHORIZED  FLIGHT                      NZ     2M     jbcri25             M Cameron         5/1
.
Darcy Brahma dancer,  out of the sim mare Invincible IX Chel (by Invincible Spirit) ,  was a gaining 3rd in the Desert Lion listed stakes at seven-eighths of a mile last time over,  smashing an 86 SP#.  Bruising bay colt got up for the place one back of that in a local bred allowance at 6.5 panels,  smacking a 76 SP# from back in the pack.  His previous start was an even 5th in the Gun Barrel listed at 6.5 furlongs,  sticking a 72 SP# .  Runner from the jbcri25 racing operation SP#’s improving,  should like the stretch out;  handicapper likes his chances at 5/1 on the morning line.

TUHINGA  O  MUA                                     NZ     2M     albertdowns         L Slater         9/1
.
Big bay colt tries stakes company again after a nice 2nd in a NW2L allowance at a mile,  nailing an 81 SP# over a “good”turf.  Tavistock toughie out of the sim mare Storm And Sunshine (by Alpha),  was a tiring 9th one before that in the Devils Sky listed stakes at 6.5 furlongs,  notching a 72 SP# though no factor.  In his prior try he was a non-threatening 6th in the New Sensations listed at 6 panels,  nabbing a 73 SP# .  Albertdowns trainee from the dunnvilledowns group could be a factor in the lane off last,  or may be an off track lover,  which he will not get in this heat.

FRANKEL’S  EDGE                                  ENG     2M     harrylanexp10         R Dowell         3/1
.
Owner/trainer harrylan sends out this Frankel fellow out of the stakes winning sim mare Street Chick (by Street Cry),   off a stretch running score in a NW2L allowance at a mile,  zapping an 83 SP# over a “good” turf surface.  Bucking bay colt broke his maiden in his previous outing,  an open maiden at 7.5 furlongs,  zinging an 81 SP# from the back of the pack.  He started his career with a gaining 4th at 7 panels in an open maiden,  zipping a 73 SP# in a  promising debut.  Harrylan is not resting on his laurels here after clinching the club championship in October;  distance should suit,  handicapper rates him as the co-favorite at 3/1 on the morning line.

 KRIS S.  KAMEHAMEHA                     JPN     2M     dontbetonme15     K Damo         3/1
.
Our other co-favorite is this bouncing bay colt,  who exits an OK 5th in the G2 The Boones Farm at 7 furlongs,  crashing an 86 SP# in an even trip.  Scratch bred King Kamehameha kut up (by Danehill),  was an excellent,  closing 3rd one back of that in the G1 The More Nay at three-quarters of a mile,  cashing an 83 SP# from the far outside post.  One before that he was a so so 5th in the G2 The July Stakes at 6 panels,  copping an 81 SP#,  again from the far outside post.  G3 winning runner from the dontbetonme15 stable has been keeping top company of late,  distance should not be a a problem,   well deserving co favorite will take beating.

WILD  DEATH                                                  IRE     2M     amir1714         D Venn         13/1
.
Co-founder amir takes a shot with this Cotai Glory character,  out of the sim mare Danza Melancolica (by Dawn Approch),  who won his only start in a $100,000 claimer at 5 panels,  bagging a 71 SP# in a pace pressing performance.  Blushing bay colt faces stern task off an eleven week layoff,  may do later with some seasoning.

AN  OBSESSION                                           IRE     2F     jb3commish         R Wilhite         5/1
.
Last out of the saddling area is this rambunctious roan filly,  who takes on the boys after a solid victory in the Bounded Shin listed stakes at 7.5 furlongs,  whacking an 86 SP# after an early pace duel.  Zoffany zapper,  out of the sim mare The Day Will Come (by Tapit) prevailed in a NW2L allowance at 7 panels in his prior run,  wrangling a 79 SP# after a front end tussle.  She was a good 3rd one before that in the More Than Ready listed on the polytrack at 5 furlongs,  wringing out a 73 SP# in her stakes debut.  Owner/trainer jb3commish has a solid contender here,  looks to be the main speed of this group and just may leave them gasping in the stretch on top try.

Good luck everybody,  and may they all come home fast,  safe and sound.
