Andreas Light Turf Juvenile

8.5 Furlongs, Restricted to 2 Year Olds

Purse: $100,000

Post Time: Saturday, November 24, 2018

Track Conditions:  Firm Turf

It is going to be cold in the Czech Republic come post time.  So all entries better have their blankets on and are warmed up for the race today.  We have a nice field of 11 Colts and Geldings that will be headed out to the cold dark day here in the Andreas Light Turf Juvenile.  There are several good two year old contenders going out in this 8.5 furlong attempt and it should make for an excellent race.  I will note that I do have a horse in this particular race.  I don’t normally preview races I have horses in, but today will be an exception.  I have made a trip around the barns in this brisk weather and spoken to some of the Owners, Trainers and Jockeys.  The morning line odds are posted and so are the post positions for this nice two year old venture on the turf here in CZE.

Horse/Odds                                                       Owner                                  Jockey

1.  Sky High Colorado  5/2                             xpansion1                           H Knott

This 2 year old colt sired by Galileo comes in after two straight wins in his only two career outings.  He ran last in a Local 8.5 furlong race in Ireland where he came off the pace to catch them at the wire by ¾ lengths with a nice speed of 96.  He will ride with a new jockey on top for his first stakes outing, but he was able to nail down a good one.  He comes in as the favorite against this field today and will be attempting to prove he can run with stakes company.

2.  Lakes West  12/1                                        adeeprock14                      F Ryant

Sired by Adelaide this colt last ran in Florida going 7 furlongs in the Glory B Good Turf Juvenile.  He placed 3rd in that race and posted a speed of 82.  He will need to prove he can go two turns today.  He drew a favorable post compared to some previous recent outings that should help him.  He may need to find a little extra in the gas tank to hit the boards in this trip.

3.  Alasroke D  6/1                                            nknowlton6                        L Pittman

This previous stakes placing colt sired by Storm Of Goshen last raced at 7 furlongs in Queensland on 10/13/2018 in the Gentle Giant Turf Juvenile.  He rallied for second in that race missing the wire first by ¼ length.  He looked like he could go a further distance in that race and he will get to prove that today as he makes his first trip around two turns.  He maybe a horse to watch today as he comes off the pace heading for the wire.

4.  Kan O Oil  9/1                                               wyndaway29                     L Kinchen

This colt sired by Lord Kanaloa found his way to a nice Graded Place feather for his cap in his last outing in Germany going 8 furlongs in The Winter Favorite which was a Grade 3 race.  He showed up second and was 1 ¼ lengths back at the wire.  He hit his best speed rating that day of 88 as he took a big jump in Class that day and had never broken his Maiden.  He steps down in Class today to challenge this field.  He very well may hit the boards again in this race.

5.  Shott Of Whiskey  9/1                              nwo4life4                            R R Logan

Sired by Fiorente he shows up with eleven career starts taking to both turf and dirt.  He has been pretty heavily raced with his last outing on the dirt on 11/07/2018 of which he went 8.5 furlongs in a NW3L Allowance for $29,200.  He showed up 4th at the wire over 6 lengths back.  There are concerns about his short rest and another quick switch in surfaces.  He will need to find a lot of extra I am afraid against this field.

6.  The One N Only  12/1                               arch                                       P Orr

Coming in off of three straight wins and sired by Barney Roy he will be attempting his first trip around two turns and it will be going against stakes company for the first time as well.  He has been running much shorter distances but has shown he can win.  He likes running near the front in his most recent races.  The odds makers have not shown kindness due to speed ratings, distance and lack of stakes experience.  He will get his shot to prove himself today.

7.  Reset Spring  6/1                                        tarton3                                 K Jolly

This young gelding sired by Reset comes in off a second place finish back on 10/28/2018 in the Woettes Delight Turf Juvenile.  That was his first trip around two turns and he put up a speed of 90 in that race which is thus far his best.  In his best outings he tend to come from way back and start to pick off horses late.  He should contend today.

8.  Capt Hell  29/1                                             millview2                             B Libble

Sired by Captain Marvelous this French bred comes in as our long shot today according to the morning line odds makers.  His last race was back on 10/06/2018 going 5.5 furlongs in the Light In The Dark Turf Juvenile in New South Wales.  He showed up 5th at the wire and was 4 ¾ back at the wire.  His past performances, speed rating and never having traveled around two turns before worry the odds makers.  He will need to step up his game against this field.

9.  OG Fastnet Kris  9/2                                  baffclaimer                         V Land

This Irish bred colt sired by Fastnet Rock has caught the eye of odds makers today.  His only career start came in a Local Maiden race going 8.5 furlongs in Ireland where he came off the pace to win by 1 length putting up a speed rating of 85.  He takes a big jump in Class after that Maiden win to challenge this field in his first stakes attempt.  He will have much to prove today.

10.  Teal Rocker  11/1                                      deepesr17                          A Reiner

Another Irish bred colt and sired by Rock Of Gibraltar broke his Maiden in his last outing on 10/09/2018 where he went 8.5 furlongs in a Local Maiden race in Ireland.  He hit the wire first by 1/12 lengths to best that field.  He seemed to like going around two turns in that race but will have a lot to prove as he takes a big jump in Class to challenge this field.  If he finds a little more leg he could contend here.

11.  Twelve Wars  11/1                                   ivanyamil                             R Gibson

He finds a nice jockey to ride up top for this race as this colt sired by War Dancer also comes in to challenge after just breaking his Maiden in his last outing.  He last raced on 09/27/2018 when he last ran in Germany where he best the field by ½ length at the wire and posted a speed of 83.  He will be another horse taking a big jump in Class and setting out to prove himself a worthy contender against stakes company.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Skippy’s Picks

1.  Sky High Colorado: Can go the distance and shows nice speed. Grabs a nice jockey for this race.

2.  Reset Spring:  Proven Stakes winner and top money winner in this field.

3.  Kan O Oil:  Comes down in class after a nice race against Graded company in his last outing.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Lake West:  Showed up on the boards in his last Stakes outing.  Looks like he is ready to travel two turns.
