Nov 282018

So I’m a little behind on the Chronicles, mainly because of the holiday. But I achieved at least one feat in the ESR Queen of the Turf challenge a couple weeks back where I had all three of my horses take up the bottom 3 spots in the two races I participated in. I also had quite a few 2 year olds break their maiden over the last couple of weeks. For this week’s write up I won’t be using the previous watch list and instead will just highlight my best and worst of the last two weeks.

PSALM OF WAR (WAR CHANT x PLEASANT COLONY x AFFIRMED) – First time against winners and this 2 year old colt proved to be pretty tough. He’d stalk the pace from fourth place before making his move at the top of the stretch and running on to victory. He’d post an 89 speed fig and will likely have his first race as a 3 year old against stakes runners.

CANDY PAINTED (CANDY RIDE x A.P. INDY x SADLER’S WELLS) – Got a cut in distance and a surface switch after the routing debut on dirt proved to be a little too much for him to handle. So this week he ran 6.5 furlongs on the turf and wired the field scoring a 77 speed fig in the victory. He’s probably done till February of the new year.

IRISH PADRE (CARAVAGGIO x MACHIAVELLIAN x SLEW O’ GOLD) – He’s been surprising good since making the switch to dirt. This week he went 6 furlongs and stalked the pace to victory at odds of 12-1 against NW2L Allowance fillies this week. He scored an 84 speed fig in that race and is another who may open up the new year against stakes company.

INTO MALICE (PALACE MALICE x INTO MISCHIEF x CARSON CITY) – Claimed the graded placed MISCHIEF MAKIN MEL for 3K and decided to retire him and hemare. The breeding would produce a filly who’d run 5 furlongs on the dirt in her debut and wire the field winning easily with a 78 speed fig.  Allowance rivlas are likely in her future.

ALY’S SONG (MORE THAN READY x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x ALYSHEBA) – After consistently losing ground in the stretch on the dirt I gave her a switch to turf and it worked wonders for her. She’d go on to post a career high 81 speed fig as she’d wire 24K allowance NW1x’s. I don’t really think she’s ready for any type of stakes runners as of yet so she’ll hang around in the allowance ranks.

TEMPERANCE GOLD (BAYERN x MEDAGLIA D’ORO x KRIS S.) – Project dirt has turned out to be very successful as she’s now won her 3rd consecutive race routing on the dirt. She’d win 150K NW5L Claimers this week on an off track and posted a career high 102 speed fig. She’s going to get a bump up to allowance runners in her next which will likely be her last race of the year.

YUKON JAK (MORE THAN READY x A.P. INDY x UNBRIDLED) – Showed speed through the first three calls in his debut going 7 furlongs but couldn’t sustain it down the stretch which led to this week’s cut in distance. He’d run 6 furlongs on the dirt and wire the field easily by a length and a quarter. Another who is probably done for the 2 year old season but will come back early in 2019.

ARMORED SAINT (EL KABEIR x SAINT BALLADO x ELUSIVE QUALITY) – Second try on the turf with a small cut in distance gets the gal over the hump. She’d stalk the pace going 5 furlongs against maiden 22K’s and get up for the victory with a 71 speed fig. Allowance is the next step.

CHARISMATIC HERO (SOCIAL INCLUSION x HERO’S AND CROOKS x CHARISMATIC) – Came back after a little 6 week break to run 4.5 furlongs against local allowance Florida breds. It wasn’t his best speed fig but he did enough to seal a victory with the 88 speed fig.

PROSPECTTHIS (OPTIMIZER x PACO BOY x BARATHEA) – Struggled with distance in his last two going 6.5 and 7 furlongs so I made the obvious cut to 5.5 this week. He caught a small field but won convincingly wiring the field by a length and a quarter posting a 80 speed fig.

HETFIELD (CARAVAGGIO x SADLER’S WELLS x KRIS S.) – Back to back 5 length losses going a mile means this gal is getting cut to turf sprints in her next. I’ll try to get her into one more race before the years end. On the upside she did run an 80 speed fig which means she’s got some type of talent… Right?

TURN N BERN (BERNARDINI x DANZIG x KRIS S.) – Struggled once again going a mile on the dirt posting his second consecutive 75 speed fig in an 8th place 5 length loss. I think a switch to turf is in  his future as I don’t really believe he wants to go less than a mile yet.

MIND HEIST (GHOSTZAPPER x STORM CAT x FORTY NINER) – Ran a good 3rd in her debut and I thought she’d relish the extra distance. My assessment was incorrect as she’d never fire going a mile finishing 7th by 9 furlongs. It was less than encouraging to see her speed fig only improve from a 70 to a 71 so maybe a surface switch is in her future.

BLUE EYED CHARLIE (BLAME x SEATTLE SLEW x DEPUTY MINISTER) – She improved slightly on the speed fig but the ending result wasn’t nearly as good as the debut. She ran a mile for the second time this week and lost ground once again at the top of the stretch. The encouraging part was she made a nice little move between call 2 and call 3. After this weeks 5th place finish I’m going to cut the distance to 7.5 furlongs.

DEFINITIONOF CRAZY (PIONEEROF THE NILE x DANZIG x FORTY NINER) – Has been less than impressive in each of his starts on turf and dirt. Both have resulted in 7th place finishes and 71 speed figs leading me to no clues on what this guy actually wants to do. Purely a guess on my part but seeing as though both his tries were at 6 furlongs and he was never really involved I’ll give him a go at routing.

IMPOSSIBLY DASHING (HONOR CODE x DANEHILL DANCER x DYNAFORMER) – Utterly disappointed with this filly as she’d try going 5 furlongs on the dirt which would result in her 4th off the board finish. This week’s 5th place finish against Kentucky locals may garner her a drop to high level claimers.

Next Week’s Watch List:

RHYTHYM SHOOTER (I AM INVINCIBLE (AUS) x DUBAI MILLENIUM x SWORD DANCER) – He’s 3-3 including a stakes victory in the Alba Sea King Turf Juvenile. All three of his turf sprints have been at 5 furlongs and he’ll get a bit of a stretch to 5.5 this week in the Deep Delight Turf Juvenile.

STRIKE PAY DIRT (BERNARDINI x SMART STRIKE x WILD AGAIN) – After posting a 91 speed fig in a 7 furlong sprint he’ll be trying his hand at stakes company in the 6 furlong High Bidder dirt sprint.

THE MARVELOUS ONE (ITSMYLUCKYDAY x A.P. DELTA x STREET HERO) – He’s run 9 times this season with 2 victories and a show all on the dirt. He’ll be trying turf for the first time this week and we will see if that helps or hurts him.

STREET LIFE DREAM (STREET SENSE x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x SEATTLE SLEW) – Ran a 75 speed fig going 6 furlongs in the debut picking up 3 spots and 4 lengths for a 5th place 2 length loss. He’s getting more distance to run at this week as he’ll go 7 furlongs on the dirt.

AFTERNOON APPROACH (DAWN APPROACH (IRE) x MEDICEAN (GB) x REDOUTE’S CHOICE) – Came up just short in his dirt debut going a mile against maidens and will be running under the same conditions this week as well.
