Dec 042018

It was a fun week with some ups and downs. A couple of stakes runners went this week, one who ran a fantastic race and the other who didn’t do much running at all. I also had a couple more break their maiden this week. Seeing as though the year is about over I’m planning on doing a 2 year old review to highlight my successes and epic failures of the year. But for now here’s the results of this past week.

Weekly Racing Record: 37-6-3-4

Win %: 16.2

ITM %: 35.1

Last Week’s Watch List:

RHYTHYM SHOOTER (I AM INVINCIBLE (AUS) x DUBAI MILLENIUM x SWORD DANCER) – He was 3-3 coming into this which included a stakes win. However, this week he got the stretch to 5.5 furlongs and put in a less than stellar effort. He’d finish 13th by 5.5 lengths tying his career low speed fig of 74. He’s likely done for the year and will return as a 3 year old back on the turf.

STRIKE PAY DIRT (BERNARDINI x SMART STRIKE x WILD AGAIN) – Won for fun in a 7 furlong sprint against allowance horses and posted a 90 speed fig in his last race which led to me giving him a shot against stakes runners in a 6 furlong sprint. From the second the gate opened he was gone as he jumped out to the lead and never looked back. He’d wire the field of 9 to win the High Bidder Dirt Juvenile and earn that SW badge. Part of me wants to stretch him out to see how far he can go, but my better judgement is telling me to keep him sprinting.

THE MARVELOUS ONE (ITSMYLUCKYDAY x A.P. DELTA x STREET HERO) – Gave him the switch to turf this week hoping it would wake him up a bit. It did not…. He’d 7th by about a mile in the mile and a half route. Its very clear he likes to run long just don’t know that he can compete with the likes of some of these allowance runners.

STREET LIFE DREAM (STREET SENSE x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x SEATTLE SLEW) – Caught an off track in West Virginia but ran well considering. He’d finish 2nd by about 2 lengths after losing the lead in the stretch of this 7 furlong sprint. He’d post an 84 speed fig in the effort and will likely stretch out again in his next race.

AFTERNOON APPROACH (DAWN APPROACH (IRE) x MEDICEAN (GB) x REDOUTE’S CHOICE) – Came up just short in his dirt debut going a mile against maidens and will be running under the same conditions this week as well.

Studs:

VIBRANIUM (RAVEN’S PASS x RAHY x NIJINSKY 2ND) – The cut from 8 to 7.5 furlongs proved to be very fruitful as this son of the stakes placed TWO ON THE DICE broke his maiden scoring an 82 speed fig. After breaking the maiden he’ll come back to run with cool kids as a 3 year old.

TOUGH MUDDER (ALPHA x FLOWER ALLEY x TIZNOW) – He doesn’t really have a heavy turf pedigree but I figured it was worth a shot to try him out there before he turned 3. He didn’t let me down either as he’d sprint away from the field of 9K NW1x Allowance horses by a length for the victory. He scored a 75 speed fig which isn’t his highest but is definitely a good first try.

REALM GUARDIAN (MORE THAN READY x GONE WEST x WILD AGAIN) – This week was kind of just a hail Mary play as I put him on the turf just for the sake of doing it. He looked to really enjoy the surface switch as he’d close from 5 lengths off the pace to get up for the victory.

MAJOR SADLER (DAIWA MAJOR x SADLER’S WELLS x CADOUDAL (FR)) – She ran well once again going 8.5 furlongs but looks to clearly want longer. She’d run an 84 speed fig in a 3rd place effort on a “good” turf track. She’ll get her shot to run longer once she turns three and the season switches over.

LET’S GO BABE (TANINO GIMLET x DANEHILL x SECRETO) – This gal just doesn’t like to finish strong as this is the 4th time in 5 races she was passed in the stretch but still finished in the money. This week saw her finish 2nd on a switch to dirt going 6 furlongs against other maidens.

AFTERNOON APPROACH (DAWN APPROACH (IRE) x MEDICEAN (GB) x REDOUTE’S CHOICE) – Out of Kody’s FIFTY STAIRWAY this guy busts his maiden with an 88 speed fig in just his second try on the dirt going a mile. Allowance company is in his future as a 3 year old for sure.

ZAPP DADDY (GHOST ZAPPER x SCAT DADDY x TAPIT) – First time out against winners and this guy put in another fantastic run. His second effort at a mile and closed from 7 off the pace to get up for the victory and post a nice 95 speed fig. I’m really excited to see how this guy matures once he turns 3.

Duds:

FREE DYNOMITE (FREE EAGLE (IRE) x DYNAFORMER x ARENA (AUS)) – She got a bump up to 125K claimers this week and she was never really competitive. She ran 4th throughout the majority of the race but was always at least 5 lengths out. She posted a 96 speed fig but will more than likely need a drop in class.

SAVAGE UNION (UNION RAGS x WILD AGAIN x ALYSHEBA) – Ran much better on the turf speed fig wise, but still didn’t get involved in the race as he’d finish 7th by 6 lengths. Given that his last three races have all been at a mile, I’ll try him sprinting on the turf.

BLUEGRASS BLAME (BLAME x BLUEGRASS CAT x VINDICATION) – First time out against winners and he caught an off track. He did run an 89 speed fig but finished 5th by 4 lengths. I’m going to attribute the poor performance to him not caring for the track but he’s essentially done until February of his 3 year old season.

MACGREGOR (MACLEAN’S MUSIC x HARLAN’S HOLIDAY x GALILEO) – The only thing this guy does is consistently show up on the duds list. This week saw him finish 4th in a 5 horse field running 4.5 furlongs on the turf against NW1x. Speed fig dipped to a career low (59) as well so I’m kind of at a loss as to what to do with him. At this point I guess it can’t hurt to try routing.

FRANCUA’S ARCH (ARCH x CAPOTE x EL PRADO) – I usually love watching this horse run as she always makes a big move at the top of the stretch. Unfortunately this week she ends up on the dud’s list for a 4th place 6th length loss. Part of the issue for her this week was I just don’t think I gave her enough distance to run at. Her next go is likely going to be at 8.5 or 9 furlongs against allowance horses.

Next Week’s Watch List:

DANCING KAT (KITTEN’S JOY x DANEHILL DANCER x MACHIAVELLIAN) – Missed by two lengths running 7 furlongs on a good turf course in his last and will come back to run 6.5 furlongs on the turf against allowance NW2L’s.

NO SWEARING (MR SPEAKER x ROSES IN MAY x MR. GREELEY) – Closed to a second place finish in his first time against winners on the stretch to 6 furlongs and returns to run under the same conditions once again.

SEEKING MISSCHIEF (INTO MISCHIEF x SEEKING THE GOLD x SHIRLEY HEIGHTS) – Broke the maiden in her last and will try allowance NW2L’s going 6.5 furlongs on the dirt.

AMERICAN CHAOS (AMERICAN PHAROAH x WILD AGAIN x RAISE A NATIVE) – Tried poly in his last and failed miserably finishing 9th by 6 lengths with a 60 speed fig. He returns to dirt and will try 5.5 furlongs to see if that helps his distance troubles.
