From the famed twin spires of Churchill Downs in Louisville,  Kentucky,  the Elite Racing Club concludes its stakes racing season,  presenting the Giants Causeway.  The club’s annual championship has already been decided  as harrylan ran off with the title in an impressive overall year.  The runner up spot will be determined in this event,  as last year’s champ summerset looks to hold off dontbetonme – let the smack talk commence !
.
A field of eight freshman club runners,  evenly split between colts and filies, will battle it out for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse on tap.  The stakes bonus points will be distributed as usual;  everybody who has earned these points throughout  2018 will get a payoff based on a complicated algorithym that the club execs keep close to the vest (no,  not really – it is prominently displayed on the club web site).
.
Harrylan ain’t resting on his laurels,  sending out a recent maiden breaker.  Summerset and dontbetonme saddle solid contenders as they face off for the club’s runnerup award.  The mightyforego and larrcamp entries can upset the apple cart,  as can jbcri09′s speedster.  Meanwhile,  the “downs” boys,  dunville and newfy send out long odds, upset minded fillies.
.
Interesting field – let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see what we may see.

RIZZEN KNIGHT                                        KY     2M     rac10              K Bortz        8/1
.
Heading up the post parade is this scratch bred Drosselmeyer dude (by Cozzene),  who just dusted a NW2L allowance at a mile,  smoking a 90 SP# in a mid pack trip.  Light grey colt tried the turf one back of that in the same condition at 7 panels,  snaring a 76 SP# for his so-so 5th.  His prior start was a closing 4th in the same condition at 6.5 furlongs,  sticking a 74 SP# in his second career outing.  Runner from the rac10 barn of the summerset group make his stakes debut;  stretch runner can out run his odds with repeat of latest performance.

FRIGUS ARGUERE                                  KY     2F     murrayspond         B F Abman     15/1
.
Our first lady is this blushing brown filly,  who showed some late foot last out when 7th in the Late Bro listed stakes at three-quarters of a mile,  getting a 77 SP# in her first stakes try.  Carpe Diem cutie,  out of the sim mare Hannah The Cool (by Take Charge Indy) won a NW1x allowance at 5 furlongs one back of that,  grabbing a 63 SP# in a four horse affair.  One before that she broke her maiden at 5.5 furlongs in her third start,  garnering a 68 SP# in a mid pack run.  Murrayspond trainee from the newfydowns outfit is ranked at the 15/1 outsider;  distance may help but faces tough task in this field.

ALUDRA                                                              KY     2M     larrcamp32         C Capper     5/1
.
Klimt kutup,  out of the stakes placed sim mare Broken Mou (by Lawman),  went last to first taking a NW2L allowance at this route over an off track,  blasting an 88 SP# with a furious stretch run.  Bruising bay colt broke his maiden at a mile in one prior,  busting an 81 SP# from way back in the pack.  He closed well for 7th one back of that in a rez maiden at 7 panels,  bagging a 78 SP# with his now signature late foot.  Runner from the larrcamp racing operation has gotten better as the distances increase,  ran well over this oval in his only try here;  should be coming into the picture as they near the wire – may just get there on top try.

POKEMUNNING                                        FR     2F     albertdowns         M Isdell     9/1
.
Charm Spirit chugger,  out of the sim mare Pokemon Player (by Munnings),  exits a fading 7th in the Taylor Made II listed stakes at a mile,  lasting for a 78 SP# after showing some early foot.  Blushing bay filly held 3rd one back of that in the His Bird listed at 7.5 panels,  lashing an 80 SP# from just off the early pace.  She won a NW3L allowance at 6.5 furlongs one before that,  landing a 76 SP# from the middle of the pack.  Runner from the albertdowns barn of the dunnvilledowns group is the only three time winner in this field;  handicapper not giving any love at 9/1 on the morning line.

DRAGON ZOMBIE                                      ENG     2F     jbcri39             E Sharp     6/1
.
Club co-founder jbcri39 saddles this beautiful bay filly off a score in a local bred allowance at this distance,  smacking an 82 SP# after prompting the early pace.  Scratch bred Sea The Moon sistah (by Danehill) was an excellent 3rd in her prior try in a NW2L allowance at a mile,  stabbing an 81 SP# in her dirt debut.  She was a tiring 6th one back of that in the club’s Deep Impact on the green,  squeezing out a 66 SP#.  Improving sort should be prominent from the get go,  could get off to an easy lead and leave them in the dust.

 BEWARE THE FRANKEL                   ENG     2F     mightyforego15       F Mac         5/2
.
Our fourth and final femme fatale is this striking bay filly,  who makes her first dirt start after an OK 5th in her stakes debut at this route,  zinging an 83 SP# from mid pack.  Scatch bred Frankel flicker (by Storm Cat),  won a NW2L allowance,  also at this trip,  zapping an 85 SP# from the back of the pack.  She won her debut in impressive fashion at 7.5 panels,  zipping a 79 SP# from just off the pace.  Runner from the mightyforego15 racing stable should be in the second flight hoping to out jump the deep closers;  gets the handicapper’s seal of approval as the 5/2 morning line favorite.

NYQUIST’S PULPIT                                 KY     2M     dontbetonme14     S Blood     3/1
.
Scratch bred Nyquist nipper (by Pulpit) was a gaining 2nd last out in the Tudors Beers listed stakes at 6.5 furlongs,  scalding a 94 SP# from well back in the pack.  Brash bay colt ran out of track one back of that when7th in the Knot Woman listed at 5.5 panels,  stashing an 81 SP# with some late run.  He was 2nd best one before that in the club’s Nyquist at 7 panels,  slashing an 85 SP# while closer to the early pace.  Second choice of the handicapper from the dontbetonme14 racing operation should appreciate the extra distance here,  could be involved in the early pace;  very dangerous off last.

NO REASON TO RUN                              KY     2M     harrylanlow17         N Bonus     4/1
.
Protecting the rear guard out of the paddock is this scratch bred Candy Ride chaser,  based on the sim he-mare Medaglia D’Moon (by Malibu Moon),  who broke his maiden last time over at 7.5 furlongs,  drilling an 85 SP# in a stalking trip.  Big bay colt tired to 6th in his first outing in an open maiden at 7 panels,  drawing a 70 SP# after showing some early lick.  Yet another talented runner from the harrylanlow17 barn faces more seasoned opposition,  but further improvement puts him in the thick of things here.

Good luck everybody,  and may they all come home fast,  safe and sound.

The 2019 stakes schedule adds variety and begins with older horses going long on the turf. Congrats to summerset for being so popular that your inbox is full(lol). Good luck to all in the finale!

    • Thanks…this year stakes contest will probably payout on Monday.

    • Not popular, as much as lazy, lol. Harry, you had a banner year and I give you big conrats for it. Don’t and Mighty horses ran very well, and I see some bright futures there. We have the best article writer in Ric, and JB does a great job running the Rez. See everyone next year.
