Magical Act Dirt Dash
Track: Fast Dirt
Distance: 7.5 Furlongs
Post Time: Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2:30 p.m.
I have taken a trip to nearby Indiana for a nice little 3 year old race of which a field of eight colts and geldings will be hitting the track in hope of finding the wire first. I do not know if we have any Bluegrass Derby contenders here, but time and the future will soon tell their fortunes. I have taken a trip around the barn area this morning and had the pleasure of speaking with some of the jockeys, Owners and Trainers. They have posted the morning line odds and post positions, so let us go see how this field looks for the Magical Act Dirt Dash.
Horse/Odds Owner Jockey
1. Star Fire Ted 7/2 royalbluer S Green
This colt sired by Sea The Stars comes in after a disappointing last outing in the G2, Club Stakes in Kentucky where he finished way back in 7th in that race on 11/25/2018. Prior to that on 10/21/2018 he placed 2nd in the Pro Deed Dirt Juvenile going 8.5 furlongs. Stepping down in class today could make him a contender against this field.
2. Giant’s Kash 2/1 kashbarn3 L Ingersoll
This Giant’s Causeway colt has been on a hot streak winning all three of his career starts. He last ran in Kentucky at 7.5 furlongs on 12/07/2018 in a Local NW3L Allowance with a speed of 95. If he can show that speed again here today as he moves up in class he should be a horse to watch. Getting a nice jockey for the ride should be helpful.
3. Here’s The Cure 7/2 petersd D Lyght
Sired by Curlin this colt has only been off the boards in one of his nine lifetime starts. His last outing he ran 8.5 furlongs in Ohio in the Gulliver Dirt Juvenile where he hit the boards 2nd in that race as he got caught coming down the stretch. He ran a nice 93 speed rating in that race. He is looking good here today and should be up near the front to contend.
4. Shas Draws 53/1 deepesr16 J Caves
This colt comes in as the long shot in this field getting no respect from the morning line odds makers. Sired by Shalaa (IRE) he will be making his first run on the dirt. He is a non allowance winner and has some speed rating issues against this field. His last outing was in Newmarket, England where he finished last against a small field going 5 furlongs on the turf in a NW1x Allowance race for $29,200. He has a lot to overcome to contend against this field.
5. Long Hot Night 7/1 tarton8 R Stacy
Sired by Mucho Macho Man he is the only gelding in the field. In his last three outings he has hit the boards 3rd in three Listed Stakes races in a row. In his last outing he ran a 90 speed rating in Idaho going 7.5 furlongs in the Beckys Lords Dirt Juvenile on 11/25/2018. He tends to like running up front in his best races. He picks up a good jockey for the ride today. He could be a horse to watch in this race.
6. Halo Sew 8/1 noitsabes E Rickert
This Tapit colt found himself 3rd in his last outing on 12/02/2018 in Florida running 5 furlongs in the Royal Sovereign Dirt Juvenile. He has never been off the boards in his four career starts, but may need to find a little more leg to prove a contender against this field.
7. Battalion Survivor 11/1 tmjstable L Buchta
This Soldier Hollow (GB) colt just broke his Maiden in his last outing in Germany going 6.5 furlongs on the turf on 12/06/2018. He does have dirt experience, but not yet winning an Allowance race brought some concern to the morning line odds makers. He come into this race off a long travel from Germany. He has much to prove as he contends in this field.
8. Sepoy’s Storm Cat 9/2 ddkstables32 L Kraft
In his last outing this colt sired by Sepoy ran in the G2, Club Stakes where he came in 4th some 8 lengths back at the wire in this 8.5 furlong race. That was the only time he failed to hit the boards in his four career starts. He steps down in class to contend in this race, which he may find helpful. He should be a horse to watch as he heads down the stretch for the wire.
Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race. Most importantly have fun!!!
1. Here’s The Cure: Only off the boards once in 9 career starts. Last couple of outings were good.
2. Sepoy’s Storm Cat: Could get his picture taken for the first time as a Stakes winner.
3. Long Hot Night: Has shown he likes to contend at the stakes level.
Tarton’s Long Shot
Battalion Survivor: Keeps showing improvement. Has much to overcome in this race, but I am going to give him the nod to prove it.
