From Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver, British Columbia,  Canada,  the Elite Racing Club kicks off its 2019 stakes schedule with the Oasis Dream.  They’ll go 12 furlongs (or ~2400 meters for the metric folk) over a firm turf course as a field of nine older runners,  including two upset minded distaffers,  vie for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse on tap.  The victor will also collect the majority of club bonus points to get the lead in the annual contest.
.
Amir’s million dollar earner THA TENANT attracted the handicapper’s seal of approval as the 3/1 favorite.  Reigning champ harrylan has the co-second choice,  the mare HENRY’S APPROCH,  while jbcri ‘s RIVERBOAT BRIDGE looks the one to catch,  both at 4/1 on the morning line.  Dunnvilledowns drew a 5/1 chance from the handicapper with his seven year old LV FASTNET THINKER;  dontbetonme’s mare DAIWA’S  DREAM  and summerset’s claiming specialist COAL STORM share 6/1 odds.  Mightyforego drops by with HOVERBOARD,  a live 8/1 shot;  and newfydowns and jb3 send out long long shots BUZZIDENT and  GUTHA  ZAIM  G,  39/1 and 36/1 respectively.
.
Interesting field.  RIVERBOAT  BRIDGE  should be in front as far as he goes.  Let’s take a closer look at the rest of them in post position order and see if the figures may reveal who may catch him.

COAL  STORM                                                FL     5G     claimerz3         L Steele          6/1
.
Leading them out of the saddling area is this brown five year old gelding who has a solid claiming/starter record since “the cut”;  he makes his first stakes try off a win at 10 furlongs in a $60,000 starter,  cashing a 103 SP# from the back of the pack.  Cool Coal Man customer,  out of the sim mare Oregon River (by Breathless Storm),  ran them down from mid pack one back of that in a $60,000 claimer,  also at 10 panels,  copping a 104 SP# in his turf debut.  He was a so so 3rd in his prior run in a $25000 starter at a mile and a quarter,  catching a 104 SP# from mid pack.  Runner from the claimerz3 barn of the summerset group could make it interesting in the lane on best.

.
Son of Sing Baby Sing,  out of the stakes winning sim mare Lucky’s Marie (by Dylan Thomas) threw in a clunker last out when an uninvolved 6th in the Silent Assassin listed stakes at 13 panels,  flagging a 102 SP#.  Light grey six year old horse was an excellent,  closing 2nd in the G1 Coffeefields Cup at this route one before that,  flashing a 111 SP# from well back in the pack.  His previous start was a gaining 2nd in the Cuvee Redhead listed at two miles,  flinging a 108 SP# from mid pack.  Amir1753 protege has a mililon in the bank already,  can add to that total if he rebounds off last;  the choice of the handicapper at 3/1 on the morning line.

LV  FASTNET  THINKER                      SAF     7M     dunndowns         S Jones         5/1
.
Philantropist phellow,  out of the stakes winning sim mare Stormdotnet (by Fastnet Rock),  comes off a late running 2nd in an open allowance at 9 furlongs,  pasting a 103 SP# on a “good” turf.  Bay seven year old horse ran in a pair of large field,  Local Championship Stakes prior to that,  both at a mile and an eighth,  closing to get 5th to post a 102 SP# more recently,  and was a never in it 10th in the other,  pushing a 103 SP#.  Runner from the dunndowns stable may be getting a bit long in the tooth,  and his only try at this distance was uninspiring,   but the handicapper gives a him a good chance at 5/1 odds.

RIVERBOAT  BRIDGE                             FL     5M     jbcri64             K Kirby             4/1
.
Speedster from the jbcri64 racing operation held 2nd after getting the lead late in a Local Championship Stakes at 10 furlongs in most recent outing,  popping a 109 SP# in a stalking effort.  Five year old light grey horse ran off with an open allowance at 10 panels one back of that,  punching a 107 SP# tracking the leader.  Rattlesnake Bridge ripper,  out of the sim mare Riverboat Town (by Teofilo) was an easy winner in one prior in an open allowance at 10.5 furlongs,  pounding a 106 SP# in a stalking run.  Looks to be the main speed in this heat,  romped in only try at this venue;  try and catch him.

HENRY’S  APPROACH                           ENG     5F     harrylanlow23         H McCarthy         4/1
.
Bay five year old mare faces the boys for the first time seeking a third straight score,  after taking the Five Star Bungee listed stakes at 9.5 furlongs,  blasting a 112 SP# from way back in the pack.  New Approach nickerer,  out of the sim mare Henrythedowngrade (by Henrythenavigator),  won the Sender Burglar listed,  also at 9.5 furlongs,  bashing a 109 SP# while a bit closer to the early pace.  One before that she was a gaining 5th in the Northern Affair II listed,  again at 9.5 panels,  busting a 110 SP# from the back of the pack.  Deep closer from the harrylanlow23 barn has shown some early lick in her career,  could be much closer to the front than usual;  should be a stretch threat though  making first start at this route.

 BUZZIDENT                                                   AUS     4M     ohcanada         A Sparky         39/1
.
Rank outsider from the ohcanada barn of the newfydowns stable exits a tiring 5th in an open allowance at 5.5 panels,  landing a 93 SP# prompting the early pace.  Dissident dude,  out of the sim mare Buzzed Reality (by Distorted Reality),  tired to 4th one back of that in the Soul Rebel listed atakes at 5 furlongs,  lasting for a 93 SP# after chasing the leader.  Chestnut four year old colt was 4th in his prior start in the Kondrakar listed at 5.5 furlongs,  lucking into a 97 SP# while never a threat.  He makes his first try beyond seven furlongs here,  seems up against it against some solid routers.

Our other distaffer’s last out was a dismal 7th in her first try on the dirt and first try against the guys,  getting an 86 SP# in the Rick Daniels Remembrance at 10 panels.  Scratch bred Daiwa Major dabbler (by Caerleon),  won an open allowance one before that at 7 panels,  grabbing a 104 SP# in a last to first performance.  Bay five year old mare was a closing 3rd in her previous try one back of that in the Nexis Rainbow listed at 8.5 furlongs,  garnering a 107 SP# from well back in the pack.  Dontbetonme trainee stretches way out here,  returns to favored surface,  could surprise on top try.

HOVERBOARD                                           IRE     5M     mightyforego15     Hi Jackson         8/1
.
Scratch bred Galileo guy returned running off a seven month respite,  getting 3rd in a restricted allowance at 9 furlongs,  drilling a 109 SP# from just off the early pace.  Bay five year old horse was a distant 3rd one back of that in a NW3L allowance at this distance,  dropping a 95 SP# from the middle of the pack.  His previous run was a fair 5th at 10 panels in the same condition,  digging a 104 SP# while tiring late.  Lightly raced runner from the mightyforego racing group is bred to run all day,  could be in the thick of things if he improves on last out.

GUTHA  ZAIM  G                                         IRE     4M     jb3pigskin         V Luong         36/1
.
Last out of the paddock is this Shamardal stepper out of the graded placed,  stakes winning sim mare Ryz Aim (by Not A Single Doubt) who  closed well for 3rd in a NW2L allowance at 9 furlongs,  earning a 96 SP# on a “yielding” turf.  Bay four year old colt broke his maiden in his seventh try in s $50,000 maiden claimer at 9 panels in his prior outing,  eking out an 86 SP# from mid pack.  He closed well for 3rd one before that in an open maiden at 9.5 furlongs,  etching a 97 SP#.  Jb3pigskin runner steps way up and stretches way out,  gets way long odds from the handicapper.
