Post Time: Saturday, January 12, 2018 at 2:20 p.m.

A nice little filly race caught my eye going off in Texas.  A field of ten 3 year old fillies will take the track in a long 9.5 furlong stakes race, the Coldstone Dirt Filly Route.  The field looks pretty tight with many probable contenders to catch the wire first.  As I am in Indiana today, I made a few calls after seeing the Racing Form and the morning line odds and post positions.  Let’s take a preview of this field of fillies as they attempt to get their picture taken in the winner’s circle here in Texas.

Horse/Odds                                                       Owner                                  Jockey

1.  Lady Has A Joke  16/1                               ddkstables23                     G Merkins

This filly sired by Practical Joke is a non allowance winner.  In her last outing she went 8.5 furlongs in Texas in a NW2L Allowance for $43,800 and found nothing but trouble as she finished 9th over 12 lengths back at the wire on 11/30/2018.  She will need to step up her game her against this field to compete for the wire.

2.  Moon Light Humor  5/1                            tfon22                                   M Olsen

This Malibu Moon filly stepped up to a G1 attempt in her last outing in the Movieland Starlet in California going 8.5 furlongs which she found to be fruitless coming in 5th but just 2 ¼ lengths back at the wire.  The step down in class should help her as she has shown nice performances at this level.  That race in the Movieland Starlet was her only race of which she did not find the boards.  I think she should contend here today with M Olsen on the mount.

3.  Miss Equador  5/1                                      xraykash                              S R Vaughan

By American Pharoah this filly will take to the track in her first stakes attempt.  She looks good after her last race on 11/22/2018 in California where she traveled 8 furlongs in a $48,700 NW3L Allowance where she came from way back to take the wire by 1 ½ lengths with a speed of 97.  If he can bring that into this race you better watch for her coming from way back down the stretch to pick off horses in her path.

4.  Bringer Of Chaos  6/1                                fairhaven1                          W Bennett

Sired by Empire Maker she has never been off the boards in 4 career starts.  She had a nice run her last time out on 12/03/2018 in a $48,700 NW2L Allowance in Louisiana running a nice 92 speed.  She came from way back to fly down the stretch and hit the wire 1st by 1 ¾ lengths.  She gets a new jockey on top for this race and we will have to see if she can adapt to his style in handling her.

5.  Aunt Indyanna  13/1                                 lostcode                               J Chapman

This Uncle Abbie filly had a nice 2nd place in a Local NW3L Allowance her last outing in Texas on 12/25/2018.  She has never won an Allowance race and thus does not get much love from the morning line odds makers of which they also have concerns with her speed ratings.  She will have to show a lot more let today to compete with the top horses in this field.

6.  Bad Aunt  10/1                                             super29                                K Blalock

Bad Aunt took a nice little bump in speed in her last outing in New Jersey.  Sired by Uncle Mo she led the field home after the third call in the race back on 11/03/2018 in a $34,100 NW2L Allowance.  She is going to step up for the first time into Stakes company.  She needs to repeat her last performance and show a little improvement and she could compete for the wire.  She likes to be in or at the front so look for her there if she runs a good race.

7.  Blame The Run  9/1                                   babies2                                   K Westbrook

This filly by Runhappy found the wire first in her last outing in Texas going 8.5 furlongs on 11/30/2018 in a NW2L Allowance race where she bested the closest contender by 2 lengths.  She will be stepping up for the first time to join Stakes company in this race.  She had a nice 92 speed her last outing and will need to show she can hold that against this field.

8.  Tom’s Coven  5/1                                       maidendash                       D Hogin

A prior stakes winner by Tom’s Ready hit the wall in her last outing on 12/12/2018 in California in the G1, Movieland Starlet.  She placed a disappointing 6th in that race some 3 lengths back.  A big drop in class from that race should prove helpful and nailing down a nice jockey should be good for her too.  She has shown she likes “Off Tracks” but she will not find one here today for this race.

9.  Nothing But Evil  9/2                                  lennyelite                            M Carlson

This stakes placing filly by Arrogate put that feather in her cap in her last outing in Maryland traveling 8 furlongs on a sloppy track in the Minsky Dirt Juvenile with a nice 94 speed taking 2nd.  In five career starts she has never been off the boards and looks to be a contender here today.

10.  Taken It Easy T  6/1                                  tek219                                  L Buchholtz

L Buchholtz grabs the mount to ride this former G1 winner sired by Take Charge Indy.  She got that G1 win back on 09/02/2018 in the Getaway Stakes at a distance of 7 furlongs.  Her last outing was not as fruitful in the G2, Golden Red Stakes in Kentucky going 8.5 furlongs on 11/24/2018 where she came in 7th over 5 lengths off the lead at the wire.  She drops in class and at a distance that may be more to her liking.  She could contend in this field.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Skippy’s Picks

1.  Tom’s Coven:  Only off the boards once in 8 starts and look to compete with a drop in class.

2.  Miss Equador:  Looks ready to compete at the stakes level.

3.  Moon Light Humor:  A drop in class may help her find the wire.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Bad Aunt:  She gets the nod as my long shot choice coming off a nice win.  She makes her first run in Stakes company and has to find a place on some exotic betting.
