The Elite Racing Club takes its monthly act on the road to Rutland,  Vermont for the Tapit.  Contested at nine furlongs (or ~1800 meters for the metric set) over what should be a fast main dirt oval,  a field of eight male sophomore club runners will battle it out for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse up for grabs.  The winning connections will also collect the lion’s share of the stakes bonus points awarded,  which will determine a club champion by year end.
.
Could there be a Triple Crown road contender among the entries ?  The always dangerous dontbetonme sends out the only stakes winner of this group,  STRIKE CLUB,  who draws early line favoritism by the handicapper.  Managing director summerset saddles the second choice,  UNION SPORTS,  one of only two runners with a win at this distance.  Mightyforego has the improving MAJESTIC SKYLINE ready to compete as the co-third choice,  while co-founder jbcri09′s AMUSING BEE looks to be a live longshot at a generous 11/1 return.  Reigning club champ harrylan,  usually mentioned at or near the top of these previews,  lurks as the fourth choice of the handicapper with MEDA VINDICATION ,  a recent maiden winner.  Dunnvilledowns sends out another tongue twister for the track announcer,  HOATU KARAIHETITI,   at 6/1 odds.  Jb3 has a live one in here at 10/1 on the program,  SPY COLONY,  who may help quicken the early fractions.  Last but not least comes the longest shot on the board at 27/1,  GALILEO’S CHROME,  from the newfydowns operation.
.
Young three olds can always surprise,  so let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see what we may see.

UNION SPORTS                                          KY     3G     razer1             B Ryan             3/1
.
Leading them out on to the main track is this bay gelding,  who won a NW2L allowance at this route last out,  whacking a 96 SP# in his third start off “the cut”.  One back of that,  this Union  Rags urchin,  out of the sim mare Shes Got Curves (by Curlin),  finished fast for third at a mile in the same condition,  wrangling an 89 SP# from the back of the pack.  In his prior try he was a fair 4th at 7.5 panels in a rez allowance,  working out an 84 SP# from well back.  Summerset entry from the razer1 barn has steadily improved since gelding;  the handicapper likes his chances as the 2nd choice on the morning line.

 AMUSING BEE                                               NM     3M     jbcri49             B Kneen         11/1
.
Laugh Track laugher,  out of the stakes placed sim mare Spin Speed (by Hard Spun) easily wired a local bred allowance at 8.5 furlongs in latest,  casting an 81 SP# in a four horse affair.  Bay colt broke his maiden one before that in a local bred maiden at 8.5 panels,  copping an 83 SP# in a stalking score.  His previous outing was a fair 5th at a mile in an open maiden,  catching a 76 SP#.  Runner from the jbcri49 stable should be tracking the leaders,  may try to get the jump on the deep closers and hope them off down the lane.

GALILEO’S CHROME                           KY     3M     whaddyaat         N Stelle         27/1
.
The longest shot on the board has yet to hit the board,  after his 5th career result was a dismal 10th in a maiden claimer at 6.5 furlongs,  eking out a 63 SP# on the weeds.  One back of that,  this bay colt was a fast fading 9th at 7.5 panels in an open maiden on dirt,  earning a 64 SP# while no factor.  California Chrome cutup,  out of the sim mare Galileo’s Gal (by Galileo),  tired badly to 9th in one prior,  etching a 65 SP# in an open maiden at 8.5 furlongs.  Rank outsider from whaddyaat barn of the dunnvilledowns group may be in contention early,  but should be hard to find at the finish.

SPY COLONY                                                 NY     3M     jb3ump         J Ingram         10/1
.
Speedy Golden Ticket guy,  out of the sim mare Thrilling Colony (by Broken Vows),  held on for 3rd first time against winners in a NW2L allowance at  a mile,  busting an 84 SP# in a pace setting performance.  Bay colt broke his maiden at a mile in a local bred affair in his previous start,  banking an 84 SP# leading all the way.  He tired to 4th in his previous run in the same condition at 8 panels,  bagging a 75 SP# after setting the early fractions.  Runner from the jb3ump racing group should be on or near the lead,  can he last going another furlong against tougher foes ?

MEDA VINDICATION                            KY     3M     harrylanlow12         B Langhorne         5/1
.
Light grey colt wired a $100,000 claimer last out at this distance,  drilling an 82 SP# in an easy victory.  Medglia D’Oro mister,  out of the stakes winning sim mare Vinhendy (by Vindication),  settled for 2nd one back of that in an open maiden at 4.5 panels,  digging a 76 SP# in a race long pace duel.  He started his career with a front running 2nd in an open maiden at 8.5 furlongs,  dropping an 80 SP#.  Speedy type from the formidable harrylanlow12 racing stable,  could clear into the first turn and dare them to catch him with further improvement.

STRIKE CLUB                                               WV     3M     dontbetonme12     R Lamond         5/2
.
Sun Strike stepper,  out of the stakes winning sim mare New York Nightclub (by Manlove),  took the Grand Kong listed stakes at 7.5 panels last out,  smoking a 97 SP# from back in the pack.  Roan colt just missed when 2nd in the Beckys Lord listed one before that at 7.5 furlongs,  smashing a 93 SP# in a stretch running effort.  He got 2nd in his prior try in the Sure Prospect listed at 7 furlongs,  sticking a 90 SP#.  Dontbetonme12 protege should get a contested pace to set up his late kick,  appears the trip should suit – the one to beat.

HOATU KARAIHETITI                          NZ     3M     lincolndowns         F Mulder         6/1
.
Boisterous bay colt tries the dirt after a pair of runnerup outings on the weeds.  Last out,  he was a nice 2nd in an NW2x allowance at a mile,  popping an 86 SP# in a mid pack run.  Contributer cat,  out of the graded placed,  stakes winning sim mare Looking Glass (by Forty Niner),  ran out of track when 2nd in a NW1x allowance at 5.5 panels,  pasting a 76 SP# on a “yielding” surface in his debut.  Runner from the lincolndowns barn of the dunnville group could take to the dirt;  handicapper gives him a shot at 6/1 on the morning line.

MAJESTIC SKYLINE                               JPN     3M     mfmetropolitan     R Lilbitfarm         3/1
.
Protecting the rearguard out of the paddock is this bruising bay colt,  who was 2nd best last time over in a NW2L allowance at 8.5 furlongs,  flashing a 95 SP# from the middle of the pack.  Majestic Warrior mover,  out of the sim mare Mafalda (by Empire Maker),  lost the head bob when 2nd one before that in the same condition at 8.5 panels,  flinging an 88 SP# in a stalking run.  He was 4th in his previous outing in the same condition and distance,  floating an 84 SP# from mid pack.  Improving sort from the mfmetropolitan stable of the mightyforego operation can compete here;  the handicapper likes his chances as the 2nd choice on the morning line.

  1. Thanks guys. A very competitive race with some nice runners throughout. Very lucky to win. It’s been a long time since I won one of these rez races. We have a very talented group of trainers here but I do hope to be more competitive this year.

  2. Congrats Mighty!!! Good race guys.

  4. Congrats mightyforego! Nice win!

  5. Had nothing else to enter…wanted to participate in the race at least. Hopefully my newly claimed colt gains some experience and I gain some insight on how to use him in the future.

    Good luck to all!!

    • That’s the spirit, newfy !!! I should follow your lead, but it’s just against my nature to enter horses where they don’t belong – guess that’s a holdover from my ownership days.

  6. Thank you Ric…..good luck to everyone.
