This Listed Stakes caught my eye this week, so I grabbed a flight out to Wyoming where #1 Ranked Dirt Route Division colt, Into Being Nice will be headlining the card in a field of eleven horses.  The track conditions look favorable and will be listed as Fast Dirt at post time in this 9.5 furlong race.  The contenders in this race with a win could put big feather in their cap if they can keep up with the flash and glamour of the award winning Into Being Nice who is listed at the 2/1 favorite.  Most will need to find a new gear in their bag of tricks to conquer that feat in catching the wire first.  I do note in review of the card for this race that there are no prior Stakes winners or Stakes Placing colts in the race other than the favorite.  The morning lines odds are listed and post positions set for the Swampy Honor Dirt Route here in Wyoming.  Let’s take a preview of how they match up.

Horse/Odds                                                       Owner                                  Jockey

1.  Demon’s Mischief  11/1                           supper22                             O Osbourne

In his last race this colt sired by Into Mischief stepped up in Class for his first Listed Stakes attempt which he found disappointing.  He ran on 12/22/2018 in the Mary Wanna Smoke Dirt Juvenile finishing back some 6th lengths placing 8th in that outing.  He has never gone the distance of 9.5 furlongs before.  He comes in well rested to try to grab the wire first here in Wyoming.

2.  Into Being Nice  2/1                                   2gunranch                           J Kirby

Drawing a good but unfamiliar jockey in J Kirby the favorite will be coming out of gate 2 today.  Another Into Mischief colt out of G2 winning mare, U R Not Nice will be the horse to beat today.  He steps down in Class from prior Graded outings but does step up in distance to travel an unfamiliar 9.5 furlongs.  This should be a good test for him to show he has the ability to go the distance.  He has only been off the boards once in eleven career starts.  In his last outing on 02/02/2019 in the G3, The Scam Stakes he placed 2nd going a distance of 9 furlongs.  I, along with the morning line odds makers have confidence in his ability for this race.

3.  Opportunity Knockn  7/1                         sonsof                                  N Gardner

In his last outing this colt sired by Deep Impact ran on 01/31/2019 in a 9 furlong , $43,800 NW2L Allowance on the turf where he cruised to the finish to come in 1st by 2 ¼ lengths.  Will be making a first time transition to the dirt and if he can do that successfully we could see him challenge and contend in this field.

4.  Dubs Dropoff  13/1                                    alimitos2                              W Gouveia

In his last outing this colt sired by Constitution ran on 02/02/2019 going 8.5 furlongs on the turf in the Alyfoo Deed Turf Route.  He failed to hit the boards in that race placing 5th and 11 lengths back at the wire.  He too will be transitioning and coming back to the dirt.  He will need to find a little more fire in his legs to contend with this crowd and prove himself a tough contender to push himself to catch the boards.

5.  Pataria  8/1                                                    futurestar                           B Bennington

He knows how to go the distance as this Bernardini colt proved that in his last outing on 02/10/2019 in Colorado when he went 9.5 furlongs in a $24,300 NW2L Allowance of which he put away the field by 3 ¼ lengths going wire to wire.  He needs to bring that forward as he moves up in Class for this race.  Not a horse to count out here in Wyoming and he could be factor to challenge this field with a nice jockey draw on top.

6.  Gate Jazzer Ted  9/1                                  stableted                             G Kermutt

This colt sired by Arrogate last ran in Oklahoma in his last outing on 01/26/2019 going 8.25 furlongs in a $29,200 NW4X Allowance.  He went wire to wire in that race and put away the field by 3 lengths.  He ran a speed rating that day of 96 and he will need to bring that forward as he goes up in Class in his first Stakes attempt.  If he can do that he could be a horse to watch in this race.

7.  Geometric Axiom  17/1                            gradetwo                            H Davis

This Frosted colt got no love from the morning line odds makers today.  On 01/05/2018 he broke his Maiden in a nice run going 9 furlongs in Texas coming just off the pace to take control at the third call.  He ran a 92 speed in that race, but concerns loom in him taking a double jump in Class to contend here in Wyoming.  If he can handle that jump and show another gear in his engine he could be a surprise to watch out for.

8.  Putonthearmorofgod  10/1                    wfstables                            R Hansen

This Orb colt has never been off the boards in four career starts for this lightly raced colt.  His last outing was on 12/30/2019 in New York going 8.5 furlongs in a $48,700 NW2L Allowance.  He showed up to the wire 2nd in that race and was 2 lengths back.  He comes in off a nice rest.  His odds seem a little long to me in this field and he might pop in this race.

9.  Sounds Of Stock  16/1                              corka                                     S Salisbury

Grabbing a favorable local jockey for the mount will help this New Zealand bred colt sired by Tavistock.  In his last outing on 02/02/2019 he found 11.5 furlongs too long of a distance to achieve.  Stepping down to 9.5 furlongs here in Wyoming looks more appealing for him.  He comes in with long odds in the morning line having hit the boards in only two of his seven career starts.  Perhaps he can find new fire in the belly at a more desirable distance.

10.  The Ryan Express  10/1                          padrebri11                          B Peeples

In his last outing this Curlin colt went 9 furlongs in Kentucky in a Local $48,700 NW2L Allowance of which he blistered the field winning by 3 lengths.  He looks rested and ready and is looking for a little more fire in his legs to contend against this field.  In his best races he has liked to run at or near the front.

11.  Henty Misled  6/1                                    iluka                                       G Scott

This Giant’s Causeway colt grabs the outside post.  I don’t feel this should be a big factor against him if he can avoid the traffic and find his spot in the middle of the pack.  His owner nailed down a seasoned jockey to take the ride with him in G Scott.  In his last outing on 02/02/2019 her ran in the Danzig With Sal Dirt Route going 8.5 furlongs and placed a disappointing 6th but was making up ground and closing.  Perhaps the extra distance will favor him in contending for the wire.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Skippy’s Picks

1.  Into Being Nice:  A well decorated horse will be the horse to beat.

2.  Henty Misled:  The added distance could favor him.

3.  Gate Jazzer Ted:  If he can go the added distance he could very well be a factor.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Putonthearmorofgod will get the nod as my long shot at 10/1 in this field.  He will need to be on my exotic bets today.  It seems he is lightly raced by his owner for a reason and I will give them the trust that they have a plan for this colt.
