Well, with the winter still raging back home in Michigan and running low on funds and rewards points, I found myself in a sticky situation down under.  Luckily for me, I encountered a generous family at last weeks race that invited me stay for the week at their place.  As it turns out the G2 Randy Vet will be running on Saturday, so I can earn a few credits as well as enjoy the summer weather.  The forecast is for 80 degrees (27 here locally) but there is a good chance of rain showers.

The Randy Vet will be conducted on the Turf, which will most likely be in a yielding condition, the race is open to Fillies and Mares 4 years old and up.  The race will cover the distance of 9.5 furlongs or 1900 meters for the metrically minded.  We will have an abbreviated field for Saturdays event, but what it lacks in the number of entries it more than makes up for in level of talent.  Half of the 8 starters have Graded victories on their resumes while the other half have all won listed stakes races.  The field is evenly split beween scratchbreds and Mare breds.

A quick glance at the Morning Line from the handicapper may forecast the type of race we are in store for.  As 7 of the 8 Ladies have odds posted beteen 7/2 and 6-1, with the lone longshot getting a modest return of 12-1.  If the odds hold true then we could be looking at some real fireworks coming home in the stretch run.

Now for the Post Parade:

1 – LAPHROAIG CADET                     (5-1)                                     CADET

DEEP IMPACT x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x GREEN DANCER             22-12-4-2

The 6 year old Japanese bred Mare is the winningest horse in the field with 12 victories, but 7 of those have come on the main track not the turf.  She was the first of 4 offspring from the stakes winning Mare INEBRIATED CADET and is her only graded winner so far.  Has only one start on an off track, a win back in 2016 on the dirt.  Comes in on a 2 win race win streak where last out tied her career best SP# of 111 winning a NW1t allowance in January.  Last May won the G3 Blue Wind.  Will not challenge for the early lead but has shown a closing kick worthy of attention.

2 – LEGENDARY HEROINE              (5-1)                                   SNOWCHIEF

GOLDEN HORN x DANEHILL DANCER x STORM CAT                  23-7-3-3

This will be the maiden voyage on an off track for the 5 year old English bred.  The third of 5 foals and only stakes winner so far out of the Graded palced Mare DANCER’s HEROINE.  Has failed to hit the board in any of her 4 previous graded starts, but has 3 wins and a second in her 4 listed stakes races.  Has posted her top SP# of 111 twice during her career.  Last out in January at South Africa she got caught in traffic early finishing 6th in the G2 Horse Station Stakes.  The talented late runner will try and claim her first Graded win in a tough field.

3 – EPICLY                                              (12-1)                                  TEES

EPIPHANEIA x STAY GOLD x A.P. INDY                                           12-6-2-2

The only 4 year old in the field, this Japanese bred Filly has drawn the longest odds.  The third of 4 progeny and only listed winner for the Graded stakes winning Mare STRICTLY.  Has won 5 of 6 starts over the 9.5 panels distance.  Off since December when she was 3rd in the ASR Championship Day which ended a 3 race win streak which were all listed events.  Has a lifetime best SP# of 111.  Last April was 8th in only graded start in the G2 Diana Trail.  She does not have to be in the early lead but she does like to keep the leaders in her sights.  First go round on an off turf.

4 – AVALON DANCER                      (6-1)                                    GLENEAGLESFARM

CAMELOT x DANEHILL DANCER x DARSHAAN                          21-7-4-1

The 5 year old Irish scratchbred comes in off of a second in the Wonderwoman Turf Mare Route where she was beaten down the stretch.  Prior outing was caught in the stretch finishing 2nd in the Infinita Tristeza Turf Mare Route in her only off track race.  Has a lifetime best 111 SP#.  Last win came back in April at the G3 Dulcimer Stakes.  Was 2nd here in the Randy Vet last year at 18-1 odds wih M Cameron in the saddle, who will be back on board again.  Explosive out of the gates has been first or second in her last 10 outings, but has had trouble finishing it off.

5 – GLORY ISLAND                           (4-1)                                    GCLIFFO

AUSTRALIA x MONSUN x DYNAFORMER                                      26-9-8-2

The 6 year old Irish scratchbred is the only runner with 2 Graded wins but as yet has not raced over an off turf.  Last out in January won the Green River Turf Mare Route, her first win since May in the G2 Corridor showing apossible return to previous form.  Posted her best SP# of 118 while winning the G3 Coney Island in October of 2017.  The most experience Lady in the race with 26 starts (6 of them Graded).   D Ledwith will be the 3rd Ledwith to get a leg up on her.  Most likely to settle in just behind the early pace and look for an opening in the stretch.

6 – CASINO FRENZY                       (6-1)                                     CASINO

FRANKEL x DYNAFORMER x DANZIG                                            18-5-5-4

English scratchbred 5 year old comes in here off a dissapointing 8th place finish in the G2 Horse Station Stakes in January.  Prior to that posted her best SP# of 112 while running second in the G3 He’s A Charmer Stakes.  Has one prior outing on a yielding turf ending 3rd in the Bust Impregnating Turf Mare Route after leading for 6.5 of the 8.5 furlong distance.  Has never left the gates worse than 4th and I would look for her to keep that trend going in this one, but has failed to bing home a win since June in the Spicegirl Turf Mare Route.

7 – CUPS HERO                                  (7/2)                                      CERES

TEOFILO x MONSUN x ROBERTO                                                      17-7-2-3

5 year old Irish scratchred is the handicappers ML favorite and comes in on a 2 race winning streak both as even money favorites.  Last out tied best SP# of 114 winning the Wall Turf Mare Route and prior race won the Whispering Sound Turf Mare Route.  Has made 2 Graded starts that produced only 1 second place finish.  In October went gate to wire in her only race over an off turf.  Has all of her wins from smaller field events.  This stalker should settle in right behind the early speed and will look to capture her first Graded victory in the stretch run.

8 – LADY IN THE STREET            (5-1)                                     GOWANS

TIZNOW x STREET CRY x DEPUTY MINISTER                             21-8-5-4

The 5 year old Light Grey Kentucky bred will be making her first start outside of the USA.  She is the 4th of 6 foals born to the stakes placed Mare BEST ONTHE STREET and is her only Graded winner.  Started career finishing ITM in 7 of 8 dirt races.  In her only attempt on a yielding turf won a NW3L allowance which was also her first race on the weeds.  Last outing was second in the G2 Forget Me Not Stakes in January.  Kicked out her best SP# of 114 while winning the G3 OK Bayou BB Handicap last February.  Has produced her best results when running at or near the early lead.

Best of Luck to all, Mates!
