Lauras Parade Turf Filly Route

Restrictions: Restricted to 3 Year Olds, Fillies Only

Distance: 8.5 Furlongs

Track Conditions: Firm Turf

Post Time: Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 1:30pm

There are several nice stakes races on the card in Kentucky this weekend.  The running of the G3, The Lady Bourbon on Saturday and on Sunday the G2, The Land’s End and this nice Listed Turf Stakes, the Lauras Parade Turf Filly which is also being held on Saturday’s card just before The Lady Bourbon.  Being  home in Kentucky this weekend I decided to also investigate this nice turf race for 3 year old fillies.  After taking another trip around the barns and visiting with some owners and jockeys for all these races I like what I see in all the contenders running in these races in Kentucky this weekend.  But the morning line odds have been set and post positions drawn for the Lauras Parade Turf Filly.  The contenders here are well matched and it will be difficult to cash a winning ticket.  So let us take a preview of this nice field of fillies before I head over for breakfast at Wagner’s which is a local hangout for trainers and jockeys.

Horse/Odds                                                       Owner                                  Jockey

1.  Mashdarq  8/1                                             deepesr9                             E Martinsen

In her last outing this grey filly sired by Amber Grey ran on the dirt on 02/09/2019 in the G1, Los Vinegrette Stakes in California.  She took a nice little jump in her speed rating that day, but it was far from enough to get her on the boards as the best she could do was hit the wire 11th and over 9 lengths back.  She goes back to the turf to run here in Kentucky and takes a drop in Class which should help her.

2.  Hushwing Hot  7/2                                     hushwing1                          P McCarthy

Catching the eye of the morning line odds makers, this filly sired by Aldebaran will go off as the favorite.  Her last outing was on 03/01/2019 in New York in a $48,700 NW2L Allowance where she got up to take the wire 1st by 2 lengths.  She comes into this race off a short rest which she will need to prove she can shrug off.  If this filly bred in Japan can do that she will contend in this field.

3.  Mini Stars  7/1                                              wyndaway14                     R Montanez

Sired by Vadamos, this bay filly has found disappointment running at the Stakes level after breaking her maiden back in September of last year in Indiana.  She has shown she can go the distance, but she needs to prove she has the fire in her legs to contend for the wire and hit the boards.  She last raced on 02/10/2019 in Colorado in the Fleet Discover Turf Filly Mile which she lost a lot of ground after the third call.

4.  War Ends Nothing  8/1                             bonk4                                   K Bowen

Racing exclusively here in Kentucky in her five career starts, this Declaration Of War filly should get some attention at the betting window as a hometown favorite.  Her owner picks up a nice jockey in K Bowen who will be flying in from Minnesota to ride up top.  She had a good last outing on 01/20/2019 going 8.5 furlongs in a $48,700 NW2L Allowance taking the wire 1st by 1 length.  I look for her to contend here once again in Kentucky in her Stakes début.

5.  Giant Bully Pulpit  8/1                               saluki999                              R Zamora

This Giant’s Causeway filly last ran in Indiana back on 12/15/2018 in a $14,600 NW3L Allowance where she came up short and in 4th some 3 ½ lengths off the lead at the wire.  She comes in well rested and should handle the distance without issue.  After this three month layoff of which her trainers have been working with her, she should be ready to compete as she takes a step up in Class for her first Stakes appearance.

6.  Every Distance  5/1                                    seabrook                             L Creek

This Temple City filly put up a very nice effort in her last outing on 02/17/2019 when she ran in Minnesota in the Lawn Mower Again Turf Filly Route.  She showed up 3rd in that race and put a new badge in her bonnet.  In her best outings she tends to like being at or near the front.  She could push the pace hear in the Lauras Parade.

7.  Primetime Berkeley  5/1                         ss89                                       P Carrier

This Stakes winning filly sired by Oasis Dream looks hungry for a win here in Kentucky.  This Roan Filly has not ran since November of last year and will come in well rested and well trained for her return back to the track.  She has won at the Listed Stakes level at this same distance before.  She deserves a look and has the ability to be on the boards.

8.  My Girl Does  9/2                                        aces1201                              C Capper

Coming in off a good effort in her last two Allowance outings, this Golden Horn filly will attempt to get a Stakes win which has thus far eluded her in eight career starts.  She has only been off the boards once and looks to get on the boards again here in Kentucky.  Her owner is pulling in a nice jockey from Iowa to take the ride with her.  She could be dangerous today.

9.  Stormy Sands  10/1                                    deeprock19                        D Balderas

Sired by Harzand, this filly just broke her Maiden in her last outing on 02/09/2019 in Indiana.  She will be taking a big jump in Class for what will be her Stakes début.  The morning line gave her no love today making her a modest long shot in the race at 10/1.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Skippy’s Picks

1.  Every Distance:  Good last outing with a respectable speed rating.  She should contend here going the same distance.

2.  My Girl Does:  Looks ready for another Stakes attempt.

3.  Prime Time Berkley:  Coming back off a long layoff.  She has the experience to find her way to the boards.

Tarton’s Long Shot

War Ends Nothing will get the nod as my long shot today.  There are no real long shots in this race as this is a very well matched field.  I will take this modest long shot in my exotic bets and I won’t be surprised to see her hitting the boards in her Stakes début.
