Analysis of Field

Oddsmakers have set SCORING EXPLOITS as the favourite on Sunday at 9/2 odds, and of the front runners she looks to stand ahead of the rest of the pack in talent so far.  SCORING EXPLOITS is coming off a win at the ‘Cadoka Stakes’ (G3) where she went wire to wire, beating MORE MOON out of the gates to set the pace and then holding off BATTLEFIELD CRY down the stretch.  Unless there is a serious improvement from the other fillies, SCORING EXPLOITS should easily jump to the front out of the gates and is expected to set a quick pace for the rest of the field to follow.

Behind the front runners, this field has six fillies who will look to stalk just beyond the leaders, however they are most likely going to find themselves fighting to keep up to the pace and will most likely be battling to finish just outside the lead pack.  SKIM STAR, STREETSOFNEWYORK, and CROSS THE ROOTS hold the best chances to challenge from the stalkers, however they will all need career performances to have a shot at victory.

WE WANT IT has the second best odds at 5/1 and also comes in with the highest speed figure in the field of 99 set in the ‘Lady Bourbon’ (G3), her last race where she came fourth failing to close the gap down the stretch.  If WE WANT IT can keep the gap behind  SCORING EXPLOITS from getting too large, WE WANT IT will be a strong threat to lead the closers down the stretch.  Deep closer BATTLEFIELD CRY will be looking to sling shot from the back of the pack into the lead down the stretch.  In her last outing BATTLEFIELD CRY was only ¼ of a length behind SCORING EXPLOITS, jumping from 13th (of 13) and over 10 lengths back at the half-way mark.

This field should lead to a very exciting race with the favourite (SCORING EXPLOITS) setting the pace early, and the remaining favourites (WE WANT IT and BATTLEFIELD CRY) being mid and deep closers looking to pace themselves so they have the energy to close fast while keeping the gap from getting too large.

  1. Forgot to mention my girls sprint record (3 for 3) and off track (2 for 3)

    • Which one is your girl? I’ll keep an eye out for her next run.

      • Niskayuna, the winner. Now 4 for 4 sprinting. Thanks for the write up I enjoyed it

        • I definitely missed her ‘tells’, she doesn’t mind the sloppy track and did regress when pushed to 8F in her 2yo season. She was about 10 speed figures higher on the sprint then and that held up in this race.

Are you going to be keeping her as a sloppy sprinter going forward?

          • Sloppy would be a bonus if we get it but I think she can duplicate her form on fast going. I will keep her around 1 turn though. Her 4 length win in Gr.2 warranted me trying her on the Oaks trail but I will keep her shorter now. May consider the Gr.1 Chestnut on Belmont day though

  2. Nice work, reminds me of the tip sheets!

    • Thanks!

I’m trying to find a way to balance giving all the horses (and trainers) a little attention while pulling focus on the cream of the crop and projected outcome.

  3. Like the format, well dpne !
