The G1 Sydney Mile has attracted a field of 11 to the Victoria Turf Course.  The race will be over the distance of 1600 meters or 1 mile for us Americans.  The race is restricted to 3 year olds and older and has One 3 year old, Three 4 year olds and Seven 5 year olds among the group.  The field is almost split in half with 5 geldings entered.  There are 4 Irish breds in the race along with 2 eachfrom Kentucky, Australia and France and then one from New Zealand.  5 graded stakes winners will bust out of the gates looking to add another.  GALILEO and FASTNET ROCK each have sired 2 of this years runners.  10 out of the 11 entries are mare breds with just 1 scratchbred to be found.  The Title and the 1.5 Million purse has attracted some of the top trainers in the business.

Now For The Post Parade:

1 – SHERPA MYTH                                         (7-1)                                    ACE

GALILEO x KRIS S x DANEHILL                                                                    19-6-3-1

The 5 year old Irish bred put up a 115 SP# last race while finishing 2nd in the G1 Road Kill Mile.  One back before that was 3rd here at Victoria on a yielding turf in the Make Me Forget Turf Route.  His last win was the G2 Sunny Mile in July.  He is out of the graded stakes winning mare MYTHOLOGY and is her 3rd graded winning foal.  Has 9 graded starts on his resume but only he 1 finish on the board.

2 – LAPIERRE                                                (9-1)                                    FERNANDO

GALILEO x STREET CRY x DANZIG                                                              21-3-6-3

The Irish bred gelding has made only 1 graded start and has just 2 stakes races overall.  He was the first foal bred from the stakes winning mare IMPALA WIND.  Won last start in a NW3x Allowance at Queensland.  Has a career best SP# of 118.  Only had 1 of his 12 in the money finishes prior to the snip in the summer of 2017.  Only failed to hit the board twice in 9 races last year one being the G2 Cities Cup.

3 – JE SAIS TOUT                                          (11-1)                                   BIZALLS

SIYOUNI x SMART STRIKE x BARATHEA                                                   11-8-1-1

This 4  year old French bred gelding has the least race experience in the field but has 8 victories and 10 in the money finishes from his 11 starts.  Last out blistered the NZ turf with a 119 SP# winning the G2 Gas Station Mile for his 2nd graded win (G2 St James Tavern).  Began his career with a 6 race winning streak.  The 5th offspring from the mare LOVE SMART is her only graded winner.  A speedy horse that wont let the leaders get to far away in the early going.

4 – ROGUE ONE                                           (4-1)                                       TEES

MALIBU MOON x STORM CAT x KINGMAMBO                                         20-11-2-3

The winningest horse in the race with 11 has been tabbed as one of the ML co favorites by the handicapper.  The scratch bred Kentucky gelding will be making his first start in graded company but has won both listed stakes tries, including his last race the Mokele Mbembe Turf Special winning while kicking out a 119 SP#.  Has won his last 9 races.  Will be in the lead or pressing for it riht out of the gates.  Will the graded arena prove to be too much for him?

5 – DEEP RED LONHRO                         (12-1)                                      BMR003

DEEP FIELD x LONHRO x RED RANSOM                                                   24-7-6-3

The Australian bred 5 year old will be making his 2019 debut here and is the most experienced runner with 24 career starts.  His last win came in the G3 Bally’s Chorus last June where he posted his best 110 SP#.  Has 7 graded turf races to his record.  He was the first offspring produced by the mare LONREDDAN.  Not quite sure what to expect from him coming off the almost 4 month layoff.

6 – KHANI’S WAY                                       (7-1)                                    LBAILEY

The 5 year old French bred Roan is the 4th offspring out of the mare LITTLE GOLD DIGGER.  His last 3 outings have all been listed stakes slightly longer 9 and 10 furlongs putting up best SP# of 115 2 back in the Wild Trips Turf Route.  Has made 5 graded starts with a third in the G3 David Hasselhoff in October.  Has won win in last 16 starts and that was over a yielding turf in an local NW4L allowance.

7 – RANGE JUMPER                                 (6-1)                                     MARMAC

FASTNET ROCK x MONTJEU x MR. PROSPECTOR                               15-5-4-4

The 4 year old Australian bred gelding has only failed to hit the board once in 9 starts since the operation.  He was the initial offspring from the graded stakes winning mare GUESS THE NUMBER.  Has made 2 graded starts including last out in the G3 Intercontinental Trophy where he ran second and put up a 118 SP#.  Won a local championship stakes 1 prior to that.  You can not dismiss this closer with a lot of listed stakes success.

8 – HUSHWING HEIGHTS                    (78-1)                                  HUSHWING

The handicapper must have an age bias as he has put the only 3 year old as the long shot special at a whopping 78-1 odds.  The Kentucky bred Roan is out of the stakes winning mare HUSHWING HARRIER and is the latest of her 6 foals.  Last 3 starts have all been graded and all this year, but this will be first out against older horses.  2 back set his top SP# of 101 running 2nd in the G3 Czech 2000 Guineas.  Will be a very tall order for him in this one.

9 – ASH CLOUDS                                      (10-1)                                   CORZA

GLENEAGLES x OASIS DREAM x SEATTLE SLEW                                14-2-2-4

The Irish bred 4 year old comes in here with the least amount of wins in the field.  In fact his last win was last March in the Barbs Java Again Turf Sprint.  He was produced from the mare DREAM SLEW and was her first foal.  His last 7 starts have all been turf stakes miles with 6 being graded.  In December kicked out a 115 SP# running third in the G1 King Kong Mile.  This stalker has shown he can get in the money just has not been able to clip the wire first.

10 – BUMMER OF A SUMMER              (4-1)                                    MTK76

DARCI BRAHMA x STORM CAT x MR. PROSPECTOR                         22-8-6-0

This 5 year old New Zealand gelding is from the graded stakes winning mare CRUEL SUMMER and was the first of her 2 graded winners.  He is the only G1 winner in the race.  His last 5 have all been graded turf miles, winning last out in the G2 Al Tahiti Fort and closing strong in the G1 DiCaprio Handicap in October with a 122 SP#.  The million dollar earner has been tabbed as the co favorite by the handicapper.

11 – FASTNET CADET                                (8-1)                                   CADET

FASTNET ROCK x KINGMAMBO x SEATTLE SLEW                              13-5-2-1

Last time out for this 5 year old Irish bred ran third in the G2 Al Thaiti Fort.  He is out of the graded stakes winning mare RAINY REINA and he was her 4th offspring and her 3rd graded stakes winner.  Won the G2 Sundown Mile over an off tuf last April.  Has put up a top SP# of 115.  Took him 7 races to break his maiden but then won 4 straight.  Last win was in December in a NW4x allowance.  Has only missed the board one time in last 8 turf miles.
