The Grade 1- 1000 Guineas has attracted a really nice field of 3 year old Fillies.  The race will be contested on the Turf course over the distance of 8 furlongs (1 Mile) or 1600 meters for the Euro crowd.  There are 7 graded stakes winning fillies in the field here, including 2 previous grade 1 winners.  Another 6 entries have all won listed stakes.  The handicapper must have been scratching his head pretty hard with this field as he has put none at better than 7-1 odds and the longest shot on the card is at 20-1, so he apparently has not ruled any of the contenders out either.  We have 7 Irish bred starters along with 3 English bred, 2 hail from Australia and 1 each from France and Kentucky.  The G1 rating and the 1.5 Million purse has attracted some of the SIMS’s best trainers for the race.  MTK76 and FOXON will both saddle a pair for the call to the post.  FRANKEL and THE GURKHA have each  sired 2 of the ladies that will be heading for the starting gate.

THE POST PARADE:

1 – OPTED BACK IN                                                                (9-1)                                                                                  ATTHEWIRE

SHAMARDAL x DANSILI x MALIBU MOON                                                                                                                            10 – 3 – 3 – 1

She is the only offspring out of the He-mare, poly track specialist MARCHWOOD.  Her last 5 starts have all been graded events.  Finished juvenile season by winning the G3- JPMC Jessamine then followed that with a pair of seconds in the G1- Breeders Bowl Filly Juvy Turf  with Small in the saddle and then in  G1- Juvenile Filly.  Has kicked out a 96 SP# in both of her runs this year, 3rd in the G3- Triangular Star Stakes and a 7th last time out in the G1- Japanese 1000 Guineas.  The Bay Irish bred has used differing race strategies but I would look for a stalking type run here.  Has to make a return to form from late last year to be a factor.

2 – PARADISE DREAMS                                                      (10-1)                                                                                LSUMARK

GLENEAGLES x KINGMAMBO x RAHY                                                                                                                                  7 – 5 – 1 – 0

She is the 3rd graded winner to be produced from the stakes placed turf mare GLOBAL KING and comes in here on a 3 race winning streak.  Last out after a 3 month layoff in season opener blazed the field in the G3- Czech 1000 Guineas with a 102 SP# and closed out Juvy career winning the G1- Juvenile Filly both with Reed in the irons.  Has only failed to finish in the money once in her career but it was right here at Newmarket.  Only has 3 career stakes races but has won them all.  The Bay Irish bred is on a streak and that makes her hard to look past.

3 – CHOSUN                                                                            (17-1)                                                                                 LIGHTNG99

CHOISIR x FRANKEL x MONSUN                                                                                                                                            8 – 1 – 1 – 2

The Irish bred Bay has not won since breaking her maiden in July.  Her last outing was switched over to the dirt but returns to the turf here.  She is the 3rd foal out of the mare DARK FRANKEL.  Last 4 starts have all been graded mile truf races as LIGHTNG is not afraid of putting his horses in the big races.  Has posted a top SP# of 90 while finishing 8th in the G1- Vermont Is 4 Lovers in February.  Artack has 1 prior ride in the G1- Juvenile Filly to finish 2 yo season coming home in 10th place.  Not sure if she will have enough to get the job done.

4 – AT FIRST DAWN                                                            (7-1)                                                                                  MTK76

NYQUIST x STORM CAT x CARSON CITY                                                                                                                            11 – 5 – 2 – 1

The Kentucky bred Bay has been tabbed as the Morning Line favorite by the handicapper, but will be making first start outside of the USA.  Last time out in her only graded race finished in Third in the G3- We Get Signal Stakes kicking out a 104 SP# which ended her 2 race winning streak in the Fleet Discover Turf Filly Mile and the Colt Secret Turf Filly Special both this year.  She is the 6th Stakes winner produced out of the mare STORM IN THE CITY.  Has only 5 career turf starts but has never failed to finish in the top 3 spots.  Got to believe she will be in the running late.

5 – IDREAMOFBEATINGLC                                            (9-1)                                                                                  GIVEN

OASIS DREAM x AWESOME AGAIN x DYNAFORMER                                                                                                  7 – 3 – 2 – 0

The Bay English bred will be making her first start in the country of her birth after spending whole career in the US.  She is out of the graded stakes winning He-mare A DREAM OF SPRING.  Last race in the G3- Longest Walk was beaten at the end after an all out duel in the stretch with BABYGIRLI’MBLUE in her only graded race to date while tying her career high SP# of 97.  Closed out juvy career by winning 3 straight including the Polish Monte Turf Juvenile Fillies.  We know she will be at or near the lead but the question is can she hold off this field?

6 – BARRIERA                                                                    (9-1)                                                                                   PISANOF

THE GURKHA x MR. GREELEY x BUSTINO                                                                                                                     12 – 6 – 3 – 0

The most experienced runner in the field with 12 starts is the Bay Irish bred who was the 3rd foal from the stakes placed mare BUSTINA.  Has been a super star in the URC residency circuit, winning 3 club events including the URC Hopes and Dreams posting her top SP# of 97 to close out Juvy career.  Opened this year winning a 22k Open allowance and last out was 5th in the G3- Longest Walk and 1 start back was 2nd in the G1- Vermont Is 4 Lovers.  Has shown a nose for the wire in the club races but will she be able to beat a Sim wide group of fillies?

7 – LONE SADDLE                                                          (10-1)                                                                                  DAVARTO

LONHRO x SADLER’S WELLS x SEATTLE SLEW                                                                                                           7 – 4 – 0 – 1

This Australian Brown is the 10th foal from the dirt mare THE ELDAR and is her only graded winner.  Has made of her graded starts this year, last out was 4th in the G3- Czech 1000 Guineas which ended a 3 race winning streak and prior to that won the G3- Ice Cream Gold posting up a 98 SP#.  Evans will grab hold of the reins for the first time since her first race.  Will be looking to stay at or near the early pace. DAVARTO is hoping that she is ready to take the next step forward and knock off a G1 victory.

8 – BABYGIRLI’MBLUE                                                (8-1)                                                                                  SELURNIVEK

FRANKEL x SEA THE STARS x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY                                                                                                  6 – 4 – 0 – 0

Coming in here on a 3 race winning streak is the Bay English bred that is the only offspring from the graded placed mare GIANTS OF INDUSTRY.  Last time out pulled away in the stretch in the G3- Longest Walk popping a 100 SP# and prior race cruised home in the Incredible Diva Turf Filly Memorial.  These are her only 2 stakes races.  Has shown that she will not be too far behind the early leaders before kicking it into high gear.  In my humble opinion I believe she is the one to watch here.

9 – VICTORY FORCES                                                   (8-1)                                                                                  NEXTBONUS

WORKFORCE x CAPE CROSS x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY                                                                                                 9 – 6 – 2 – 0

After 7 straight listed stakes with 6 straight top 2 finishes the Bay Irish bred will be making her first graded start.  She is out of the stakes winning He-mare FEELS LIKE VICTORY.  Last out won the Nighthawk High Turf Filly Challenge putting out her best SP# of 99.  She has 3 listed stakes wins on her card.  Has never finished lower than 4th in any race.  This hard charging closer could play a big role down the stretch.

10 – KYMARC AIM                                                         (20-1)                                                                                 KYMAR

MOTIVATOR x AWESOME AGAIN x CARO                                                                                                                     6 – 5 – 0 – 1

The French bred comes in on a 5 race winning streak but only has 1 stakes race on her ledger which was last out in the Ks Panache Turf Filly Route where she posted a 94 SP# going gate to wire.  She was the 11th foal from the stakes winning mare AIM FOR PARADISE and is just her 2nd stakes winner.  Has never been more than 2 back at the first call and usually has the lead.  Handicapper must feel the lack of graded experience is the biggest factor for her.  I believe she could be a contender.

11 – GENERAL SNITZEL                                             (9-1)                                                                                    CADET

SNITZEL x INVINCIBLE SPIRIT x KRIS S.                                                                                                                     7 – 5 – 1 – 0

The Australian Bay is the 2nd offspring from the graded stakes winning mare INVINCIBLE CADET.  Last race out this talented closer kicked out a 102 SP# while winning the G1- Japanese 1000 Guineas but was out kicked down the stretch by LONE SADDLE in the G3- Ice Cream Gold finishing second.  Has only finished off the board once in her career.  Was a winner in the ESR My Day Will Come Hopeful resident event as a juvenile.  I would definitely not count this one out.

12 – VT RUBY                                                                 (14-1)                                                                                 FOXON

EXCEED AND EXCEL x STORM CAT x FORTUNATE PROSPECT                                                                           7 – 3 – 1 – 3

The Irish Bay returned from a 4 month layoff knocking down a 98 SP# in the G3- Kewney charging late to a 3rd place finish.  Prior to that won the G2- Silver Spoon Juvenile in another closing effort.  She was the 12th foal bred from the allowance winning mare LIZZIE’S STORMCAT and is her only graded winner.  She has never failed to finish in the money and will definitely not be running near the early pace.  FOXON will be hoping the improving trend continues in this one.

13 – INJURY REPORTS                                               (10-1)                                                                                 FOXON

THE GURKHA x MEDICEAN x DANZIG                                                                                                                         5 – 3 – 1 – 0

The Irish bred kicked out a whopping 103 SP# last time out in the G3- Irish 1000 Guineas Trial finishing in second which ended her 2 race win streak this year.  Prior outing won the Bling Turf Filly Mile making every pole a winning one.  She is the 5th filly born to the stakes winning mare CAROLS who has produced 2 other stakes winners and a graded winner.  The least experienced horse in the field with only 5 career starts.  The 2nd FOXON entry could provide a little excitement in this one by out pacing the field.

14 – DISHING IT UP                                                     (12-1)                                                                                 MTK76

FRANKEL x SPEIGHTSTOWN x PULPIT                                                                                                                       9 – 4 – 2 – 0

The 2nd runner from MTK 76 is the English Bay that comes in off a second place in the Rebel N Yell Turf Filly Mile popping her career high SP# of 98 in just her 2nd start at the Mile distance.  She made 3 graded starts as a juvenile including a victory in the G2- Young Lady in August that capped a 3 race win streak.  Closed out juvy season winning the Carmen Ohio Turf Juvenile Fillies.  This closer has drawn the outside gate and is the first foal out of the stakes winning mare SERVING IT UP.

This one is looking like it could be a real barn burner.  Good Luck to All…………………….JB3
