I must say, even on a Dreamliner it is a long trip to fly to Ireland.  But it did give me plenty of time to study a very nicely decorated field of fourteen fillies that will go 8 furlongs in The Irish 1000 Guineas Stakes.  This race has drawn some of the top turf fillies who will be looking to put another very prestigious race on their resume.  We have five Graded winners in this field of fourteen, while the remaining horses will be looking to make the wire first and graduate into the elite Graded winning group.  We have many horses representing some of the top residencies today as the fillies take to the track.  I have taken a trip around the stables here in Ireland and spoken with some of the owners and jockeys, all of which feel their filly has a good shot in winning The Irish 1000 Guineas.  The odds makers have set their morning line and the post positions have been drawn.  So let us go take a preview of this very distinguished field of fillies and see how they stack up.

Horse/Odds                                                       Owner                                  Jockey

1.  Haveyourselfaday  11/1                            atw                                         T Small

In the first gate we find a G3 winning filly sired by I’ll Have Another.  She will be representing the East-West Connection (EWC) residency, while flying in from Germany will be jockey, T Small to take the mount.  She is very familiar in running in Grade company, but has yet to hit a triple digit speed rating.  Her last outing was in the G3, The Darling Fred Stakes where she lost the lead down the stretch, but held on for 2nd and fell 2 ¾ short at the wire.  Her jockey may need to give her some taps with his whip to get her to stay in contention.

2.  Kans Olas  20/1                                          lightng102                           N Labreche

This filly sired by Lord Kanaloa is coming off a disappointing run in the G1, Happy Easter stakes traveling a distance of 7 furlongs.  She charters into this race never finding her way to the triple digit speed marks.  Her owner does nab a good jockey in N Labreche to make the trip in Ireland to ride his filly.  He may need a heavy whip to get her to fire and content in this field as they represent the Empire State Racing (ESR) residency as she gets listed by the odds makers as the longest choice in this field.

3.  MS. Directed  5/1                                       lawdro11                                T Monk

She has earned her GP badge to place on the mantel above the fireplace and was sired by Muhaarar.  She will go off as the co-favorite in the morning line as she shows up with a pretty nice resume after hitting the boards in eleven of her twelve career starts.  She likes to close at the third call and you should look for her closing in her stretch run.

4.  Murmaider  10/1                                        waremblem3                     M Kiprusoff

Sired by Constitution she ran last in Germany in the G2, Germany 1000 Guineas Stakes traveling 8 furlongs on 04/21/2019.  She hit the wire second as she tried to close down the stretch.  This was her first Graded Stakes attempt and she proved she could contend.  She made a switch to the turf back in August of last year and she seems to take to it with success.  She will head to the track representing the Universal Racing Club residency of which I am sure they will be cheering her on as she heads for home.

5.  Widow Of Justice  5/1                              stupor1                                 L Radzinski

Jockey, L Radzinski will be taking a long flight from Washington to ride up top of the second co-favorite in the morning line.  They have paired up before in this filly’s first race when he helped her break her maiden.  She is out of HOF mare Deputy Flanders and sired by Frankel.  In her last race on 04/27/2019 she ran in Denmark in the G3, Danish 1000 Guineas of which she came from near the back of the pack to get up at the wire by 1 ¾ lengths with a nice 105 speed rating.  She will represent the GR Simsters residency as she takes to the turf.  This G3 winner could prove to be the horse to beat in this race.

6.  Cartaceo  9/1                                                iant                                        S Dunlap

The Roan filly presents with a perfect record to flaunt and puts it on the line for this race.  She is sired by Dark Angel and has seven career starts of which six of them were wins and has never found herself off the boards.  In her last outing she won on 04/13/2019 in the G3, The Darling Fred Stakes to capture the wire by 2 ¾ lengths as she closed from way back.  Her owner brings back S Dunlap to take the ride up top after their successful pairing in their last outing.  They could prove to be a menace in this field with a deep closing charge.

7.  Kingstormper  14/1                                   lightng108                           A Craig

This owner finds another filly in his stable to come out of the barn to represent ESR residency.  She is sired by Choisir and she has only one Graded start.  This came on 04/20/2019 in Deauville, France in her last outing of which she failed to compete in the G3, The Cleoatra.  This Allowance winner comes to this race lacking in experience and success at the Graded level.  But to her owner’s credit, he has contracted with jockey, A Craig out of Newmarket, England to take the ride up top of this struggling filly.  Perhaps this new jockey up top will be able to get her into a contending position in this race.

8.  Liquiddark  15/1                                          deeprock7                          H Artack

She put a new GP badge in the trophy case in her last outing on 04/20/2019 in the G3, Si Senorita Special when she hit the wire 2nd just ½ lengths off the leader.  She hit a 100 speed rating to clip the triple digits for the first time.  This filly sired by The United States has been the bridesmaid in her last two outings and looks to get to the wire first with Turkish jockey, H Artack up top for the ride.  She will be another ESR residency representative when she takes to the track here in Ireland.

9.  Black Cherry LV  19/1                                eurobiz                               B Wu

The Bizalls stables brings in the first of his two entries to this race that is sired by Dubawi.  He has chosen B Wu to ride a top of his Bay filly for this race of which have paired up before with successly at the Allowance level.  Her last outing was in New York on 04/06/2019 in the G2, Mellow Breeze Handicap where she met with disappointment when she failed to contend in her first Graded outing.  She represents the Only Stayers residency of which she along with the other Bizalls horse will gain support from the followers.  I question if this horse play has a strategy as she has shown early speed in the past.  But she has been shown to be formidable on the dirt and is transitioning back to turf for this race.  This Bay filly brings question to me as I preview this race.

10. Cleemeaso  19/1                                       aguadeep7                           H Harzheim

A call is placed to Tasmania jockey, H Harzheim to take the mount up top of this Brown filly sired by Rafeef.  She has two prior G3 attempts in the past that she found not to be fruitful.  She has a rollercoaster of a track record as of late.  She last ran on 04/13/2019 in the G3, The Darling Fred Stakes of which he could do no better than 6th as she crossed the wire.  She is another horse representing the ESR residency today, but she will need lots of support and find a lot of extra to compete in this field.

11. Pertinacious LV  7/1                                 bizalls15                              T Ace

She will present as the co-second choice in this field today.  She is sired by Snitzel and out of a highly decorated mare in Mumbai.  This filly goes out representing the Only Stayers residency who will be cheering her on as she hopefully closes down the stretch.  In her last outing she proved herself a Graded Stakes contender when on 03/31/2019 she ran here in Ireland around the same track and surface in the Irish 1000 Guineas Trial when she closed nicely after the third call to get to the wire 1st by 1 ¾ lengths.  She has a short career of only five lifetime starts, but she has never been found off the boards.  Jockey, T Ace gets the call from Texas to make the long trip to ride up top of this filly and try to bring her home at the wire.

12. Ryans Patrol  10/1                                     yuga                                     A Jolly

Jockey, A Jolly will be making the long trip from Louisiana to ride the track with this filly sired by Pierro.  She is on a three winner Hot Streak which she looks to extend.  Her last race was on 04/06/2019 in the G3, The Grotto where she came from just off the lead to best the field by 1 ¼ lengths with a nice 103 speed to capture her first Graded win in her first Graded level outing.  This Bay filly looks good today and her odds may be long enough to cash some nice tickets at the betting window if you bet her right as she goes out to represent the Universal Racing Club residency.

13. Priority Objective  13/1                          mightyforego25               M Day

This filly sired by Dawn Approach failed to fire soon enough in the G1, Happy Easter Stakes in Vermont in her last outing on 04/20/2019.  This was at a distance of 7 furlongs.  Perhaps the added furlong here in Ireland will be more to her liking.  She has failed in hitting the triple digit speed mark in her prior races which could be of concern at the betting window today.  Jockey, M Day gets the call out of Berkshire, England to take the ride with her as she heads to the track to represent the All-Stars Racing residency at post time.

14. Clarehaven  7/1                                         grenoble1                           O Hanson

The owner of this filly sired by Giant’s Causeway will be here to represent the Universal Racing Club.  In seven career starts she has proven to hit the boards six times.  Her last race came on 03/31/2019 in California in the G3, We Get Signal Stakes of which she ran flat but crossed the wire 2nd and was just ½ lengths off the lead.  Jockey, O Hanson gets the call to come in from out of Spain to take the ride around the track with this nicely groomed Bay filly.  She will bring concern for that ding she will get for a long travel time at the betting window.  If she can overcome this, this co-second choice in the morning line could shake things up here in Ireland.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Skippy’s Picks

1. Pertinacious LV:  Never off the boards and won here in Ireland in her last outing.  She gets the edge today.

2. Widow Of Justice: Hard to ignore this Frankel filly after her last outing in Denmark.

3. Ms. Directed: After a strong finish in the G2, Regina Elena I look for her to contend to hit the boards.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Ryans Patrol, a modest 10/1 shot will find a place on several of my exotic tickets at the betting window.  She showed up to run in the G3, The Grotto and could be a thorn in the side of many in this race today.  She could find a place on the boards or even pull off a big upset here on the green grass of Ireland.
