Although we have had more than our fair share of rain this week in the Bluegrass State, they say they will have the track ready and that it will be Fast Dirt at post time on Saturday.  The owners of this nice field of ten colts and geldings have their horses ready and entered to contend.  I am familiar with this track and although it looks a little wet today as I made my rounds, many of the horses in this field got in their final workouts early this morning before the rain started.  Taking a trek around the barns the horses are settled back in and resting up for their chance to get to the wire first.  Only one entry has a Stakes win in this group, while the rest will attempt to put a new feather in their hat.  The morning line odds makers have done their duty and set the morning line odds for this race and post positions have been drawn.  Let us take a closer look at this field that will be running here in Kentucky in the Mine Forest Dirt Special.

Horse/Odds                                          Owner                          Jockey

1.  Dixie Blame  23/1                             matt84                          P Munoz

This scratch bred Brown colt BLAME x DIXIE UNION x SAINT LIAM will get no love from the odds makers today.  He broke his maiden back in October of last year and has failed to hit the boards since.  His last outing on 04/13/2019 he made a switch to the turf surface here in Kentucky in a $48,700 NW2L Allowance and crossed the wire in 7th and was 8 lengths off the lead.  His owner grabs jockey, P Munoz to come in from Illinois to take the ride with his horse.  He has rode this horse before early on in this colts career and hopefully he can draw a spark from him as he heads out of the inside gate.

2.  Barcelonatoscanova  15/1                mrluck                         M R Luck

This colt sired by Kiss The Ghost had his last outing in Iowa on 05/03/2019 going a distance of 8 furlongs across an off turf track.  He ran a nice race to show up 2nd at the wire.  Seems he may have found his calling, but his owner states he wishes to give him another try back on the fast dirt today.  He will be representing the DelPen National residency at post time.  The owner gets a familiar jockey for his horse in M R Luck out of Ohio.  He rode this colt to a 3rd place finish in Ohio back in March of this year.

3.  Elk Grove Danny  9/5                       signals4                       L Creek

The favorite in this race according to the morning line will set out from gate 3 to try and extend his Hot Streak.  Sired by Sequoia Grove this nice Bay colt last ran here in Kentucky on 05/11/2019 going a distance of 8.5 furlongs in a $75,000 Allowance of which he handily won.  Recently he has not ran in any type of stakes races, but has proven he can contend at the Graded level.  He looks good for this race and very well could be the horse to beat today with jockey, L Creek from Virginia up top to take the mount.

4.  Patch My Ride  9/1                           ryry                              E R Cothill

Sired by Candy Ride, this Bay colt has been running on the turf since back in November of last year and has done so with moderate success.  For this race his owner feels the need to try and transition him over to the dirt and give him another try.  His last race was in Illinois in the K Wad Turf Stakes when he failed to fire and finished way back in that race and over 14 lengths off the lead at the wire traveling 9 furlongs in that race.  He will be representing The Minnesota Testbarn Residency at post time.  An unfamiliar jockey will ride around the track with this colt.  This along with a transition back to dirt may spark interest for him to fire here in Kentucky.

5.  Golden Passage  11/1                      peterparker               O Ridenour

The owner puts in a call to Virginia to contract with O Ridenour to take the ride with his scratch bred Roan colt, BODEMEISTER x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x WILD AGAIN.  They have paired up before when this colt broke his maiden back in March of this year.  This colt last ran here in Kentucky on 04/14/2019 in the Otto Causes Stakes where he met with disappointment as he crossed the wire 10th and over 13 lengths back.  This non-allowance winner will give it another try here in Kentucky when he goes out representing the DelPenn National residency on Saturday.

6.  Humor Star  11/1                             wyndaway                    R Staples

A local jockey here in Kentucky in R Staples will take the mount for the owner of this Bay colt sired by Zoustar.  His last race was in South Korea on 04/13/2019 going 8.25 furlongs in a $24,300 NW1X Allowance.  He rallied to come in 2nd at the wire.  He is making a long travel to get here to Kentucky for this race which we will have to see how he handles that coming into this race.  He is a non-allowance winner, but does have one Listed Stakes attempt under his belt of which he came in 5th back in March in the Studio Remixed Stakes.  He will be a representative here from the Empire State Racing (ESR) residency of which he will get much backing.

7.  Gusttavo  7/1                                   silverstarz                      Te Allen

This Bay gelding sired by To Honor and Serve has seven career starts and has hit the boards four times.  However this horse has never shown up at the wire worse than fourth thus far in all of his starts.  His owner gets a local jockey here in Kentucky in Te Allen to ride the track with his horse.  In his last race which was in Wyoming on 04/26/2019 he ran in a $15,000 Allowance which he handily won by 1 ¾ lengths going 7 furlongs.  This will be his first attempt to run at the Stakes level when he takes to the track representing the GR Simsters residency.

8.  Capt Hell  21/1                                 millview2                     K Stabler

This colt sired by Captain Marvelous will get his first attempt to try out his legs on the dirt track.  He is also flying in from the Czech Republic to do so.  He has struggled lately with consistency on the turf, so perhaps the dirt will spark some interest.  However, his jockey, K Stabler from here in Kentucky may need a heavy hand with the whip to get him to show more speed and stamina in this field.  This colt will also be representing (ESR) residency come post time.

9.  Shameless Quality  3/1                    attalaq                         F Mac

Jockey, F Mac will be coming in from Michigan to take the ride with this scratch bred Bay colt, SHAMARDAL x ELUSIVE QUALITY x SEATTLE SLEW.  He only has five career starts, but has only been off the boards once when he came in 5th in the G3, The Rebel Yell back in March.  He has a nice start to his career going, and the odds makers have taken note as they make him their second choice in this field.  He will be going out to represent the Racing HQ residency at post time.  Looks to be a solid horse to watch as they come for home in this race.  He likes to run up front which is where I expect to see him.

10. Mission Of Mystery  7/1                  ddkstables8              C Capper

This Grey colt sired by Mission Impazible broke his maiden back in August of last year and it took him little time to put an Allowance win under his belt.  After that he stepped up to Stakes company where he has ran his last three races of which were found to be fruitless efforts.  He steps back down in Class after his last outing in the G3, Chicago Derby after finishing 13th and over 17 lengths back at the wire.  This step down may help him considerably in contending against this field.  With a nice jockey in C Capper to take the ride from out of Iowa, he could be the one to shake this colt back into form.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Skippy’s Picks

1.  Shameless Quality:  I look for him to make the others catch this rabbit.

2.  Elk Grove Danny:  Looks to pick up his fourth win in a row and he should be dueling it out up front.

3.  Gusttavo:  Have to go with the name.  He should be another runner you will see up near the front.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Humor Star:  He did okay in his last outing so I will give this 11/1 choice a spot on a few exotic tickets at the betting window.
