I finally made it back to my home in Kentucky after my long travels to Europe and Australia.  But there was little time to rest as I had to head out to cover this race in Ohio…How about those Cincinnati Reds?!?!  Ooops, just got caught up in the baseball game and forgot what sport I was covering today. LOL  But I am here in the Buckeye Stake of Ohio to preview the running of the G3, Love Muffins Stakes in which twelve nice 3 year old fillies will be traveling 7 furlongs on what will be listed as a Firm Dirt track for Saturday’s race.  Many of these horses look evenly matched and this should make for an exciting and closely contested race to watch.  I picked a few out that I felt might be there at the wire driving hard, but boy there are so many other good fillies it is hard to pick who may get on the boards in this one.  The track is looking good as I walked out to view it this morning.  I then went for a stroll over to the barns and found some of the owners and jockeys and I also viewed some of the fillies in their stalls.  They look in good condition, even those making a long distance travel to get here for this race.  The morning line odds have been set by the odds makers and post positions drawn.  So let us take a preview of this nice field of twelve fillies that will be running in the Love Muffins Stakes.

Horse/Odds                                          Owner                          Jockey

1.  Shinku Madoken  7/1                       yesguy                         W Desantis

This Grey filly sired by Unbridled Jen won her GP badge back on 05/11/2019 in Ontario in the G3, The Selena when she pulled in 3rd at the wire at a distance of 8.5 furlongs.  She then came back on 06/09/2019 to run in Ontario again in the G3, Denny Tario Oaks where the best she could do that day was show up 5th and was over 6 lengths back.  Jockey, W Desantis will get the call to take the ride with her on Saturday as they head to the track to fill the first gate.

2.  Egon  5/1                                         xpansion1                       D Zordich

This Bay filly sired by Into Mischief has a very nice career thus far.  She has ten starts and only been off the boards once, which came in her last outing of which she finished 4th on 06/07/2019 in the G1, Chestnut Stakes in New York.  She ran flat that day and could not quite catch the leaders, but she did run her best speed rating that day of 105.  She looks good for her start on Saturday as she takes a step down in Class.  Her owner has contracted with jockey, D Zordich out of Minnesota to take the ride with his filly and will be heading to the gate to represent Pastures Of Green residency come post time.

3.  We Want It  9/2                                dochman2                  F Leghorn

This Kentucky bred Grey filly is sired by Speightstown.  She is a multiple Listed Stakes winner but has seen trouble in the past in trying to move up to contend at the Graded levels.  However she got the call from the odds makers as the slight favorite in this race.  Her last outing came on 06/16/2019 in Illinois at a distance of 7.5 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Capacidad Dirt Fillly Sprint.  She got up nicely to win that race by 1 ½ lengths.  Her owner quickly makes the call to jockey, F Leghorn who rode his filly in her last outing.  A familiar rider for this filly may help her find the boards on this trip against Graded company.  They will be going out to represent the GR Simster residency on Saturday.

4.  Beastie Girl  5/1                               tomtoppers                SS Ledwith

Her last outing came on 05/25/2019 in Spain in the G3. Priority Princess Stakes where she showed up 2nd at the wire to collect her GP badge.  This filly sired by Tapit will be making the travel back here to Ohio after a nice rest period to try and collect a win at the Graded level.  A familiar jockey to this filly in SS Ledwith will take to the irons with her.  They paired up once before, but will be looking for much better results than they had the last time.  They will be ready for Saturday’s race and be representing All-Star Racing.

5.  Nite Kitten  21/1                               millview1                    N Staples

This Bay filly gets no love today in the morning line as the odds makers will make her their longest choice in this field.  She has recently been racing at much further distances and at the Graded level on the turf and has not been able to prove she can contend.  She has never traveled on the dirt before so this will be her first trip around the main track.  She is sired by Big Blue Kitten and her owner is hoping to see his filly pop on the dirt track and show an improvement over her other Graded attempts.  This 21/1 choice will be ridden by jockey, N Staples who is a local jockey here in Ohio and they will be representing the Empire State Racing residency come post time.

6.  Stampy  14/1                                   nepenthe13                  L Creek

Jockey, L Creek from Virginia will get the mount up top of this Bay filly sired by Empire Maker.  She has done fairly well at the Allowance level, but I did not like seeing her miss the wire first in her last outing on 06/06/2019 in Michigan in a $15,000 Allowance race. She has only one prior Listed Stakes start and has never started against Graded company before.  Her jockey will have some obstacles to overcome in this race to get her into contention when she goes out on Saturday representing the Universal Racing Club.

7.  Skim Star  19/1                                lostkey8                       K Wheeler

This Japan bred Roan filly sired by A Shin Hikari is a Non-Allowance winner.  She broke her Maiden back in December of last year and immediately jumped into running in various levels of Stakes races and at various distances.  She has not hit the boards since January of this year when in a Listed Stakes the, Babes Sheep she showed up 3rd to claim her SP badge.  Since that time it has been tough on this filly to get into contention.  She will have a local Ohio jockey in K Wheeler taking the ride with her and see if he can get her into a promising position in this race.  She will be representing the Empire State Racing residency come post time.

8.  Its All The Same  6/1                       punter59                    P Munoz

This Bay filly earned her G3 badge back in December of last year in the Reflections Futurity.  She found the boards again on the turf on 05/05/2019 in the G3, The Great Woman where she showed up 3rd at the wire and 2 ¾ back at a distance of 8 furlongs.  She came back to the dirt in her last outing on 06/08/2019 in Iowa when she ran in a Listed Stakes at 6.5 furlongs in the Demand Success Stakes.  She went gate to wire in that race and hung on to win by ¼ length.  The owner of this Ghostzapper filly puts in the call to jockey, P Munoz from out of Illinois to take to the irons.  They too will be representing the Universal Racing Club on Saturday.

9.  Master Caster  14/1                          smallracn                  J Caves

This Grey filly sired by Sea The Moon has been running on turf until her last outing on 06/09/2019 when she made the trip to Ontario to run in the G3, Denny Tario Oaks.  She showed up 9th in that race way back when she crossed the wire.  This has not discouraged her and she will take on this crowd of contenders on Saturday as she goes out to try and collect her first win on the dirt.  Her owner puts in the call to Kentucky and picks up jockey, J Caves to come in and take the ride up top.  They will be leaving the ninth gate on Saturday to represent the Empire State Racing residency.

10, Ryans Call  11/1                              grumpy0428               B Jenkins

The Universal Racing Club finds another member to bring in his Brown filly sired by Dialed In to represent them.  This 11/1 choice may need a look at the betting window on Saturday.  She has nine career starts and has never been off the boards.  She last took to the track on 05/25/2019 in Spain where she traveled 7 furlongs in the G3, Priority Princess Stakes and pulled in 3rd just behind Beastie Girl who she will face again here in Ohio.

11. After The Last  7/1                           punter59                     O Parker

From out of the punter59 master stables the owner finds another filly to place on the card and enter in this race on Saturday.  This Bay filly sired by After Market will also represent The Universal Racking Club of which many owners have shown up with their horses to represent their residency.  She is a multiple Listed Stakes winner but has never found her way to the boards when running at the Graded levels.  Her last outing was close for her as she pulled in 4th in the G3, Dynamita Sprint in Mexico on 06/22/2019 and was only 1 ¾ lengths back.  Jockey, O Parker from out of Iowa gets the call to ride up top of the owner’s filly on Saturday here in Ohio.

12. Salsawab  13/1                                soft                                   B F Abman

This Bay filly sired by Two Step Salsa seems to have a colorful career going various distances on various surfaces.  She has proven she can handle these fluctuations fairly successfully.  She is a Listed Stakes winner picking up her SW badge back on 02/10/2019 going 6 furlongs in Michigan in the Wine and Whiskey Stakes.  She has had only one Graded level attempt which was not fruitful but she seems not discouraged.  She last ran on the turf in Florida in May of this year and now she will return to the dirt with jockey B F Abman coming in from Kentucky to take the ride with her.  They will be representing Bargain Bred Racing Series come post time as they head to their outside post position.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Never mind my picks as it is all in fun and I rarely pick winners.  Hope you do better than I do for this race.

Skippy’s Picks

1.  Egon:  Got a good gate draw for her running style and should content

2.  We Want It:  If she can bring that speed forward from her last outing she should be wearing new bling after this race.

3.  Beastie Girl:  Had a nice G3 outing her last trip to the track.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Ryans Call pulled in right behind Beastie Girl in the last face off against each other.  So at 11/1 this filly has to get on some of my exotic tickets at the window.
