Beerkeg’s Picks

Holeshot: PAPLACE – It’s a perfect storm for PAPLACE to win the holeshot out of the gates, he’s running out of the inside post and is the only consistent front runner in the group.  PAPLACE will also have a solid shot to hold his lead as most of the field, including the odds on favourite, are stretching out to their first two mile run.

Favourites: CHIVO Y MEDIO (4/5) - CHIVO Y MEDIO is a heavy favourite in this field, his average speeds are in line with the career bests of this field and his top speed is 13 higher than the next highest.  If he can hold form with the extra distance, there should be little the rest of the group can do to keep up.  Although he has maxed out at 12F, with most of his success at 10F. He has been finishing strong, pulling well ahead down the stretch, which should be a good sign that he may be able to hold form and run away with his second Local Stakes title.

Wildcard: PAPLACE (9/2) – At 9/2 odds, PAPLACE  would not normally be considered a solid wildcard/longshot bet, however if we take into consideration he is the only proven double-miler in the field and has put up the 2nd highest speed figures in the field (both top and average) one may come to the conclusion that his 9/2 odds are a bargain bet.  The safe bet here would be to bet for a top two finish, as CHIVO Y MEDIO should also put up a solid run even if he loses speed with the extra distance, however those willing to place their money on a win for PAPLACE still have a great shot at seeing him take the field wire to wire.
