A nice race caught my eye that will be running in Surrey, England this Saturday.  The Judmemont International is a 10.5 furlong race for 3 year olds and up.  A field of thirteen colts, horses and geldings will be traveling the distance over a firm turf track.   I see many contenders in this race that have graded badges and are million dollar horses.  Many of these horses look very well matched in this race.  This race will be difficult to find the winning combination on your tickets and their will surely be many exotic tickets placed at the betting windows on Saturday.  The odds makers have worked hard to come up with their morning line odds.  The post positions have been drawn and I have made my way around the barns and spoken with some of the owner and jockeys.  So let us take a preview as to how these horses look coming into this race here in Surrey in the Judgemont International.

Horse/Odds                                          Owner                          Jockey

1.  Silvano Heights  11/1                       pointguardb                 R Radzinski

This 5 year old Bay horse bred in South Africa was sired by Silvano.  This lightly used sire has been known to produce a nice Stakes quality foal from time to time and he has produced one for this owner.  However this horse has failed to hit the wire first since he last won back in October 2018 in an Allowance race in West Virginia.  He has hit the boards several time this since and has remained competitive.  His owner puts in a call to New York to get jockey, R Radzinski to take the ride with his horse.   They have paired up together several times in the past, so this horse should respond well to a familiar face.  This entry will head out of the first gate on Saturday and be representing the Empire State Racing (ESR) residency.

2.  Swilcan Burn  5/1                              titleist                           H Harzheim

The odds makers have made this 5 year old Bay horse sired in England by Dubawi and out of HOF mare Botwisted their co-favorite for this race.  This leased mare has produced multiple Graded winners during her time in the breeding pasture and this G1, million dollar horse would be one of them.  This horse has been running very well this season and has put up three Graded wins and has not missed the boards.  In his last outing back on 06/30/2019 running in South Africa he traveled 11 furlongs in the G1, The Greatest Show On Turf Stakes and crossed the wire 3rd and was 4 lengths back.  His owner puts in the call to a favorite jockey that he likes riding this horse and that would be H Harzheim from Dubai.  They will take to the track to make attempt for another G1, win for this horse as they represent the ESR residency.

3.  More Classic Rando  6/1                  fairhaven                    K Banner

This Bay gelding sired by Fastnet Rock in Ireland will be picking up a new rider up top for this race in jockey, K Banner from Pennsylvania.  This horse has been most competitive at the Allowance and Listed Stakes level where he has racked up ten wins on the turf in his career.  But at the Graded levels he has had some struggles with his best Graded results coming in 3rd in the G3, The Chicago Handicap back in July of 2018.  In his last outing he was closing fast on the field of front runners when he closed from way back on that trip to place 4th in the G1, Man Of War Stakes.  The leaders up front better check their rearview mirrors for this late closer as they come down the stretch headed for the wire.  They will get the support of the GR Simsters residency come post time.

4.  Hurto Intelectual  7/1                       zardeltajo                   P Harzheim

This Bay horse sired by Shamardal last raced on 07/07/2019 in the Man Of War Stakes in New York at a distance of 11 furlongs.  He came in 2nd in that race just 2 lengths back at the wire.  As you see on the card for this race many of the entries have crossed paths before.  Several are making a long travel distance to be here in Surrey for this race and we will have to see if this affects their performance.  The owner has secured jockey P Harzhemim to take the mount up top of his horse for this race.  The jockey has never rode this horse before, so we have to see if this jockey from Berkshire can put this horse on the boards for the owner.  In looking back, this horse has only failed to hit the boards once since 09/01/2016.  That will certainly draw attention at the betting window.  Come post time they will be representing the Hispano Parlante residency.

5.  Wakinasty  7/1                                 canyong8                        A Jolly

Jockey, A Jolly from Louisiana will get called in to again take to the irons up top of this scratch bred gelding (DYNASTY (SAF) x MISWAKI x SHARPEN UP).  In his last outing this gelding carried the same jockey with him around the turf in the 11 furlong Man OF War Stakes in New York.  There was much disappointment that day when he failed to fire after a long layoff.  He showed up a very lack luster 9th and was over 7 lengths back.  He will have to show he still has the fire in his legs and find some of those better speed ratings again from days past.  They look for their first G1 win here in Surrey on Saturday as they head to the gate to represent The Minnesota Testbarn Residency at post time.

6.  Old Dooba  14/1                               riotman                          A Rolling

This 4 year old Bay colt sired by New Approach comes in off of a nice Listed Stakes win in Virginia in the Obscene Male Stakes.  He went gate to wire in that race and put up a win by 2 ¾ lengths.  He does not have much Graded level experience, racing only one time at this level in the past in the G1, The Milan Grand Prix at a distance of 12 furlongs.  He came in a disappointing 8th in that race and was 16 lengths back when he crossed the wire.  He seemed not well prepared for that race and simply began to run out of gas after the second call.  But he bounced back nicely and will be traveling at 10.5 furlongs here in Surrey which seems to be a good distance for this colt.  He gets a familiar jockey, A Rolling from British Columbia to fly in and take the ride around this turf track together.  He will probably come out of the gate and take to the lead early and the question will be can some of these deep closer catch him?  They will be representing the Blazing Saddles residence when they take to the turf.

7.  Koto  22/1                                        silversun02                     B Oston

This Listed Stakes winning Bay gelding sired by Monterosso comes in with a win in his last race.  He last ran on 05/12/2019 in Kentucky in the 10 furlong Her Pigeon Stakes where he took control after the 3rd call and went on to grab the wire 1st and got up by 2 ¼ lengths at the wire.  Jockey, B Oston from Massachusetts gets the call take the ride here in Surrey.  This horse ran a very nice race and showed his best speed rating of 114.  His jockey will need to get that out of him again as he takes a big jump in Class to compete in this race.  He has a couple of Graded attempts in the past, but they were unfruitful performances.  This gelding looks to change that here in Surrey as he heads to the gate as the longest choice in this field per the odds makers.  He will be heading to the turf on Saturday representing the GR Simsters residency.

8.  Kymarb Nickel  9/1                          kymar11                       J Scott

Jockey, J Scott from Ontario brought this horse to a nice G1 win in this Bay gelding’s last outing.  He gets the call again today to take the mount up top of this horse sired by Intello.  They paired up on 06/30/2019 in South Africa to go gate to wire in the G1, The Greatest Show On Turf Stakes and they crossed the wire first to put away that field by 3 lengths.  He ran a sp rating of 112 in that race and he will need that and maybe a little extra against this field here in Surrey.  But in eleven turf starts he has won five races and hit the boards in second or third a total of six more times.  He is looking like he can contend here and brings with him a nice resume of which he looks to continue to improve upon.  Going off at 9/1 he will be on a lot of tickets at the betting window.  Look for him at or near the front in this race as they head to the track on Saturday to represent the Universal Racing Club.

9.  Cinnamon LV  5/1                            jackworm                     D Evans

This 5 year old Bay gelding sired by Redoute’s is the other co-favorite in this field according to the odds makers.  His last couple of races he has missed the boards against his other Graded contenders.  He gets a jockey change for this race as the owner places the call to Victoria, Australia to get jockey, D Evans to ride his horse again across the turf here in Surrey.  D Evans and this gelding have paired up before in the past but that was well over a year ago.  The owner looks for the jockey to come in heavy handed and get his horse back on track and back to hitting the boards in this race.  The horse in past races has put up some nice sp ratings so we know he has the legs to contend.  This horse looks well rested and is familiar with this track.  He looks hungry for a win and I look for him to contend closing on the leaders late in this race.  They will head to the gate on Saturday to represent the Only Stayers residency that will have members there in full support.

10. Frankly Golden  18/1                       asrfrankel                  R Bokie

This 4 year old Bay colt sired by Frankel had a good last outing when he ran a distance of 10.5 furlongs in Iowa against a small field to pick up a $34,100/NW1y Allowance win by 4 lengths against lesser competition.  Prior to this race he had not won a race since February of 2018 which came in the Vermont Is 4 Lovers Stakes   He will need to bring forward a better performance here in Surrey against this rough and tumble crowd.   The odds makers took note of this and have shown little love for this colt making him one of the longer choices in this field.  He will get the help of Jockey, R Bokie from Virginia that is flying in to take the ride.  They have paired up in the past with some unsuccessful results.  They look to change that here on Saturday when they take to the track to represent the All-Star Racing residency.

11. Alter Ego Youngy  11/1                   croissant                      J Stivers

This 4 year old Bay colt is sired by Dubawi and is out of the highly decorated mare, Start Shaking.  I am looking at the resume of this colt and I kind of like it.  He has twelve career starts of which he posts six wins and has only been off the boards twice.  He last ran on 07/07/2019 in Deauville, France.  He ran 10 furlongs that day in the G3, The De Vichy Stakes.  He went off at 16/1 that day and destroyed that field of contenders as he took control in the stretch to grab the wire first by 2 ¾ lengths and thru down a nice sp rating of 120.  This horse looks like he should draw some bets at the windows on Saturday as he goes off at 11/1 here in Surrey.  One concern is that he gets a jockey change in J Stivers from Deauville, France who has never been up top on this colt.  J Stivers is a good jockey and perhaps they will pair up nicely together.  If they can bring forward that speed this colt showed in his last race as he takes a jump up in Class he should be a contender in this race.

12.  King Came Home  18/1                  dochman8                  D Givins

This King Kamehameha colt comes in with long odds against this field.  He seems lacking in Graded level experience and has yet to put up a Listed Stakes win.  I kind of feel that as he takes this big jump in Class to compete against this field he may not have the experience to get him into contention.  His owner puts in the call to Kentucky to secure the services of jockey, D Givins to take the ride with his Grey colt.  I think the lack of rain and the small step down in distance may show favorable to this pairing as they head out to the gate on Saturday here in Surrey.

13. Baff El Meh  8/1                              sabbath7                         J Ledwith

In twenty-six career starts this 5 year old Bay gelding has hit the boards twenty-one times.  He is a scratch bred (NATHANIEL x DIESIS x HABITAT) and has shown he can compete at the Graded levels.  He won the G2, The Einstein Stakes in Germany back on 06/16/2019 with a nice sp rating of 118 when he stalked the leader and took control at the third call.  He likes being at or near the front in his best outings.  This outside gate draw brings me some concern for this horse due to his running style.  His owner gets a familiar jockey, J Ledwith from Paris, France to come in and take to the irons with his horse.  They have had some success together in the past and he should be able to get a good performance out of this horse if they can overcome this outside post position.  They will be representing the European Union Racing Organization as they head to the turf here in Surrey.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Never mind my picks as it is all in fun and I rarely pick winners.  Hope you do better than I do for this race.

Skippy’s Picks

1.  Swilcan Burn:  Has a favorable jockey riding and this horse is very consistent in hitting the boards.

2.  Alter Ego Youngy:  I will give him his opportunity to bring that speed forward as he moves up in Class.

3.  Cimmamon LV:  Looks hungry for a win and a step back down in distance since his last outing may be what he needs.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Koto at 22/1 is the longest shot in the field.  He is coming off a nice Listed Stakes win.  He has disappointed in the past at the Graded level and he is taking a big jump in Class for this race.  But let’s throw him on some exotic tickets at the window and see what happens.
