Dell Web Mile

Grade 2

Track: California

Restrictions: 3 Year Olds and Older

Distance: 8 Furlongs

Surface: Firm Turf

Purse: $375,000

Post Time: Saturday, August 24, 2019

This would happen to be my real life birthday weekend and here in the sim I wished to spend it at the races.  There are many wonderful races that are running this weekend which also include the Dell Web Mile for this group of turf runners.  They will travel 8 furlongs in California across what is listed to be a firm turf track for Saturday’s race.  This is a very nice looking field of contenders that wish to add a win here to their resumes.  I have looked over the track and watched a few last minute workings of some of these horses.  I have spoken with some of the owners and jockeys and all seem confident that their horses are ready for this trip.  The odds makers have posted their morning line and the post positions have been drawn.  Let’s take a look at how these horses stack up and take a preview peek of the contenders here in California for the Dell Web Mile.

Horse/Odds                                          Owner                          Jockey

1.  Tresconeto  7/1                                stormboot2                  C Gerhke

In his last outing this son of Galileo hit the boards to grab his GP badge on 06/23/2019 in the 8 furlong, G3, The Siliver Surfer Stakes in South Africa.  He makes the long travel here to California and will be moving up in Class to contend in a Grade 2 race for the first time.  The owner puts in a call to Maryland to contract with jockey, C Gerhke to take the ride with his Bay colt.  In this horses last two outing he has ran a respectable 114 speed rating.  Better be watching for him to close after the third call.  He will be going out on Saturday representing the Pastures of Green residency.

2.  Pachulin  9/1                                   myhaack                        B Orazio

This Kentucky bred Colt is sired by Elusive Quality.  He earned his SP badge in a Listed Stakes back on 05/26/2019 when he crossed the wire 2nd in the Bristol Rovers Stakes in Nebraska at 8.5 furlongs.  He came back on 07/13/19 to run in Pennsylvania in another Listed Stakes race the, Saratoga Storm Stakes but could do no better than 5th in that race with a small drop in his speed rating from his prior race.  Jockey, B Orazio from Illinois gets the call to ride up top of this colt as they go to the gate on Saturday representing the Hispano Parlante residency.

3.  Medaglia Reflected  10/1                  dkstables37             N Lawton

This four year old colt sired in Kentucky by Medagia D’oro earned a SW badge, but you will have to look back to October of 2018 to find he won a Listed Stakes in Indiana when he ran in the Eric Roo Stakes at a distance of 8.5 furlongs.  In more recent outings he has won his last two trips to the track running against Allowance company.  He will be taking a big jump in Class to contend here in California.  His last race on 07/26/2019 he ran a nice 114 speed rating, but he will have to bring that forward with him.  This owner places a call to New York and finds the talents of jockey, N Lawton available to take the mount up top of his Roan colt.

4.   Wester  11/1                                    sremel                             L Kraft

This five year old Brown horse is sired by Hold Me Back.  He is a G2 winner from back in February 2017, when he ran in New Zealand in the G2, The What The Who Stakes.  He has failed to pick up another win since that race.  His speed ratings have fallen off a little this season, but he has been able to catch the boards a couple of times recently.  The owner puts in the call to jockey, L Kraft from Michigan to fly in and take to the irons for his outing on Saturday.  They will be going off at 11/1 as one of the longest choices in this field.  This tells you how will matched these contenders are in this race.  They will head to the gate here in California to represent the Empire State Racing (ESR) residency.

5.  Tales Of Hearts  10/1                        tmjstable                    F Oxon

This Bay horse is a scratch bred (CONGRATS x SEATTLE SLEW x SECRETARIAT) who has primarily ran on the dirt.  He is a G2 winner from back in September of 2018 in the G2, Middle Ground Mile going 8 furlongs in Ontario.  He has only picked up one win so far this season and that was on the turf in an Allowance race in Berkshire, England when he closed nicely to get the win on a good turf tack.  He has been struggling in his past few trips to the track and his jockey, F Oxon from Louisiana will need to reach down into his back of tricks to get his horse to fire.  A fast pace out of the gate by the front runners could be helpful for this horse.  They will take to the gate representing the DelPenn National residency.

6.  Hope Of Nations  7/1                        mtkclassics                M Kelly

This Bay horse was sired by Giant’s Causeway and is out of the mare Guineas Romp who is from a line of nice horses in her pedigree.  This horse is a G2 winner after getting to the wire first back in July of 2018 in the G2, Turf Invaders Stakes in Tasmania.  This horse has struggled this season with only one win which came in April of this year in an Allowance level race.  A familiar jockey in M Kelly from Delaware gets the call to ride up top of this horse when the take to the turf on Saturday representing the Blazing Saddles residency.

7.  Friendzone Jorah  9/2                      rickybobby6             T Ace

This four year old Bay colt bred in England is a scratch bred (OASIS DREAM (GB) x NORTHERN METEOR x MONTJEU) and has proven he has the goods this season and the odds makers took note of that in the morning line making him their second choice for this race..  He has posted two G2 wins this season and one of those came in his last race in Kentucky on 06/23/2019 in the G2, The Sparkler Handicap when this front runner closed up shop on his contenders throwing down a 119 speed rating.  He gets a jockey change in this race with jockey, T Ace from Texas taking to the irons.  They will be heading out of the paddock to parade to the gate representing All-Star Racing residency.

8.   Alwaysseekhimfirst  11/1                willyam40                 W Kewmwa

This Bay colt sired in Florida by Seeking Again comes into this race lacking in Graded experience.  But he is a Listed Stakes winner and earned his SW badge on 06/01/2019 in the Crazy Horse Again Stakes in Ireland.  But he came back out in his next race in Ontario on 07/14/2019 and failed to fire and make a closing effort in The Chew And Swallow Stakes.  Perhaps the long travel weighted in on the lack of performance in that race.  Jockey, W Kewmwa from out of Arizona gets the call to ride up top for this trip on the turf as they head to the gate going off as one of the longest choices in the morning line.  They will take to the track here in California representing the GR Simsters residency.

9.  More Than Major  10/1                     dkstables37              T Small

The master stable of Stockswami brings in a second entry to this race with this Brown colt sired by More Than Ready.  This colt has been racing on the turf since August of 2018 and has put up some respectable speed ratings, but he has been inconsistent in doing so, which makes it difficult to know what kind of performance he will bring here to California for this race on Saturday.  His owner puts in the call to Germany to acquire the services of jockey, T Small to take the ride with his colt for this outing.  The jockey may need to bring a stiff whip to make sure to get the best performance out of his ride.

10. Damodara  9/1                                johnkarczewski62     T Steinlicht

This colt sired in Japan is a 5 year old Chestnut horse that is another scratch bred in this race (DAIWA MAJOR x MISWAKI x BE MY GUEST).   This horse has a Listed Stakes second place, earning his SP badge in a Residency sponsored stakes, the URC Breeders Championships-Mile.  Since that time he has only made one other Stakes run and that was on 05/17/2019 in the G2, Confederate Stakes in Maryland.  He struggled in that race and failed in trying to run down the front runners.  A local jockey from here in California in T Steinlicht will take to the saddle to ride this horse when they head to the gate representing the Universal Racing Club residency.

11. Lake Moonlight LV                         aussiebiz2                    M Zeus

This Bay horse is sired by Snitzel and is out of the million dollar leased mare Lake Bemidji who has produced multiple stakes winning foals and this horse would be one of them.  He is a G2 badge earner when in November of last year he won the G2, The Mile Championship in Japan.  He is consistent in running nice speed ratings and he hit the boards in 3rd in his last outing on 05/19/2019 in the G1, The Cobbler Mile here in California.  He gets a very familiar jockey for this horse in M Zeus to take the ride.  He is a favorite jockey up top of this horse and knows not only how to ride him, but how to ride him across this California turf.  He goes off as the favorite in the morning line and will parade to the gate on Saturday representing the Only Stayers residency.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Never mind my picks as it is all in fun and I rarely pick winners.  Hope you do better than I do for this race.

Skippy’s Picks

Lake Moonlight LV:  You have to find a place on your tickets for this horse at the betting window.

Friendzone Jorah:  Coming in off of a nice G2 win with a respectable 119 speed rating.  He should be there at the wire.

Tresconeto:  Last two outings look nice if he can bring that speed with him as he takes a step up in class.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Medaglia Reflected will get on some of my exotic tickets for this race.  There are no real big long shots in this field, but at 10/1 I will give this horse a shot as he comes off two Allowance wins.
