I’ve been off for a while, and it’s good to get back on the old typewriter again to cover a new home residency for all my stables. Since the switch, my breedings have started showing promise. A big thanks to URC and Chris for showing me what I was missing in the game.

This tough field of 8 is looking sharp from the fences here in NY, and there’s 2 fillies that are going to try to steal the win here on Saturday.  Here’s the way I see it.

UNIVERSAL TRAVERS STAKES

Purse $100,000   10F

1. WEST CHROME  (18-1)

CALIFORNIA CHROME X GONE WEST X SADLER’S WELLS

This well bred Colt is looking at making a transition from allowance to stakes here. He does have a nice last couple of SP’s, but it’ll be tough for him in this group. Keep your eyes on this fellow, I think we’ll see more of him down the road.

2. RUN GHARBY RUN (8-1)

GHARBY X RUNAWAY GROOM X NORTHFIELDS

This colt is looking sweet as he’s progressing on Turf. cracking a 100 SP in his last outing, surely a stakes race fits, but this is a dirt race, and this horse shows nothing in his previous starts, so for me to say this horse can do anything, would at best be a guess. Only time can tell how he’ll handle the change in surface, but good luck with the switch.

3. KYMARC BERKELIUM (5-1)

SQUIRTLE SQUIRT X MEDAGLIA D’ORO X A.P. INDY

Beautiful brown Filly that broke a 103 SP in her last outing, coming 2nd over 8F. This filly looks to stretch out to 10F here, and it wouldn’t surprise me 1 bit to see this filly steal the show from the boys here. Deeply bred to speed and route will make it tough for any young colt here.

4. CALLIXTUS (5-1)

SUPER SAVER X UNBRIDLED X CARSON CITY

This colt came up just a bit short in his last race, while still gathering a 101 SP. The extra 2 F should definitely help this well bred colt to get there this time out. He will have to battle with the #3, and others though, as this field is looking fairly competitive amongst the top 5.  Nice to see a Super Saver Colt! 5 in a row is cool, even though 4 were hot races.

5. PIRATE MASTERS (5-1)

MASTERY X A.P. INDY X SADLER’S WELLS

Nailing a 105 SP in her  last allowance race makes me think this filly is going to be a very tough cookie to crumble. Her mare is a Graded stakes placer, and if she is sharp, will also be giving the boys a tough time here, just as she did in her last allowance race with the boys. Top prospect here.

6. DECKON THAR (4-1)

ARROGATE X MINESHAFT X STORM CAT

Winner of the URC Preakness this year, this colt could be the 1 that stops the filly invasion here. 107 SP in the URC Preakness, but didn’t do so well in his last outing in a G2. Easier competition here will be key to bounce this horse back to the graded races. Favorite.

7. TO THE SHIRE WE GO (5-1)

FLINTSHIRE X PEINTRE CELEBRE X A.P. INDY

This strangely bred gelding is having success on both Turf and Dirt, lately gathering a 103 in his last allowance race, and is another 1 that has everything looking forwardly coming in to this race. I am intrigued myself to see if the original switch to dirt was just a 1 off, or if he is a genuinely a double surface racer.

8. GIANT KING (5-2)

GIANT’S CAUSEWAY X KINGMAMBO X GONE WEST

With a 111 SP in his last outing, this horse is a complete bullet at 8.5F on Turf. Breaking it’s Maiden on Dirt assures this colt can handle the surface, but I don’t like his odds, seeings how this is 10F race. I think others will be chasing him down before 10F.

Overall, I think the 2 Fillies have a real shot here,

My Picks,  5-6-3-4 $20 WPS #5

Good Luck to all the URC Members in the race here today, none of mine fit the class just yet, so you all get a reprieve from me here, but I’ll be watching closely…lol Enjoy the race!!

McAllister Out!

  2. Nicely done and well written; appreciate the coverage.

    • Thanks a lot. Will start picking up some of the extra races. I like Todd’s Previews, and think he’s normally covering Rez races, I will cover races that he doesn’t, giving him the opportunity of picking 1st, he’s been in URC longer, and think that’s just fair play. I didn’t come to URC to cover races, I came because it’s a premier residency, and I love it here, learning faster than I ever thought about breeding, racing, and everything the sim can throw at you. Thank you all!
