Knightmare's Breeding Corner

Take Note of This European Sire

Lahib (3399)

Lahib is a bit of an older stallion. He presents a very nice pedigree to breed to and has had solid success in real life. He is a sire that will have better sim success at some point and if you are a fan of turf runners you have to like his sim turf numbers. Unlike many real life turf sires he seems to produce a high percentage of turf runners. I think there is a lot of potential here.

Real Life- Lahib is by Riverman. His dam sire is Cutlass (Damascus) and his dam’s dam sire is 1943 Triple Crown winner Count Fleet. His dosage index is 3.38 a good mix of speed and stamina. On the track Lahib was a grade I winner. He was lightly raced only racing eight times. He was first three times and second four more a couple of those also grade I events. He won his grade I over a mile and a quarter but most of his races were at a mile.

As a stud he has had solid success. In nine crops of racing age he has produced two grade I winners and five other graded stakes winners. In his two grade I winners both of the dam sires are from the Northern Dancer line and three of his other five graded winners also have dam sires from the Northern Dancer line. The Northern Dancer line is used quite a bit in real life with good success.

Sim Life – Lahib has twenty-eight currently active sim runners. He does have one stakes winner past her prime. The dam sire in the stakes winner is War and there is an inbreeding to Nasrullah. The stakes winner is the only progeny of Lahib’s to earn more than $100,000 on the track to this point.

There are a few of his older sim runners that did best on the dirt. His recent crops however have produced quite a few more turf runners. He has a very solid four year old #105857 Lovejoy Mandor who has won seven of ten career starts and never finished worse that third during that time. He has been taking advantage of claiming and starter allowance company to this point but seems plenty capable of competing at the allowance level

Lovejoy Mandor’s pedigree is somewhat similar to many of Lahib’s recent off spring. A total outcross not using sires from neither of the Mr. Prospector line or Northern Dancer line. He has been bargain bred mostly and never really paired with any of the more well known classy sires. He was bred to Shirley Heights once and that is about as classy a dam sire he has ever been bred with.

Breeding Suggestions – With Lahib’s pedigree not having any Northern Dancer or Mr. Prospector influence that leaves many dam sire choices out there. In fact you can load up with a whole bunch of other well known sire lines to breed with Lahib. Lahib has the kind of pedigree that is flexible. If you want a route horse be sure you breed a little stamina to him.

I think the Northern Dancer line is probably one of the better lines to consider. There are so many classy sons and grandsons of Northern Dancer. Storm Cat, Deputy Minister, The Minstrel, Danzig, Danehill, Nijinsky II, Nureyev or El Gran Senor to name a few.

Nasrullah appears in the fourth generation of Lahib’s progeny and I think is the best sire in his pedigree to inbreed. I tend to think of Nasrullah inbreeding having a more dirt influence however there are plenty of good turf producing Nasrullah line dam sires. Blushing Groom (FR) would be tops on that list. Mill Reef, and Riverman are two very solid choices as well. You could also use a son or Nasrullah in the dam’s dam sire spot to create the same inbreeding, Never Bend or Red God as good choices there.

The Turn-To line hold another vast quantity of sires to choose from. Sires through Halo, Roberto, First Landing and Sir Ivor offer many, many choices. The Ribot line is another line to consider.

The one thing that is a bit intriguing is the possibility of putting together a pedigree with four Triple Crown winners, Count Fleet, Seattle Slew, Secretariat, and Affirmed, in the first four generations and the pedigree even looks a little turfy.

Lahib (3399) X A.P. Indy (14) X Affirmed (83)

Lahib (3399) X Unfuwain (6862) X First landing (2157)

Lahib (3399) X Lear Fan (3467) X The Minstrel (6552)

Lahib (3399) X Kingmambo (3327) X Sir Ivor (5888)

Bargain Bred – Lahib has been bargain bred quite a bit. He gets down into the forties at the end of most weeks. Pairing him with solid bargain dam sires can be a little tough bit it is possible.

Lahib (3399) X Parade Ground (11411) X Crystal Glitters (1416)

What to Expect – Lahib in real life does ok with his two year olds but his runners seem to develop best after two years old. Recently he has produced better turf runners than dirt but his best sim runner was on the dirt. He seems to produce more route horses than sprinters although you do not see a lot of ten furlong plus runners by Lahib. Most of his runners do well between eight and ten furlongs.
