What a race it was the Breeder’s Bowl mile, 14 of the best horses in the sim going for glory. Before the race everybody was looking at the big names Seeking Sal, Sip of Saki and Black coin, but who would have thought a little filly with a good but moderate record compared to her more illustrious rivals would be the one to etch her name in history as the winner of the 2007 edition of the Breeders Bowl That fillies name is:
CULINARY CUTIE
Before the race started there was an air of expectation, where was the winner going to come from? It looked as though their might not be much pace in the race so will somebody take the initiative and take up the pace making or would it be a sit and sprint race.
The horses were entered into the gates with the exception of Town Prince who was sweating up quite badly it took 6 attendant’s to load him into the gates. There was a roar from the crowd the gates opened and they were off. The horse was playing up in the gates and the one I had expected to lead Town Prince dropped back very sharply to 2nd last which essentially ended any chances of him winning. So who was going to take up the pace? It was taken up by Culinary cutie and as I expected very close up was Perfect Karma. Torch the Flame was close to the leaders, Seeking Sal was midfield and at the back were some of the other favorites Black Coin, Sadler Seeker and Sip of Saki.
Although with no expected pace was predicted Culinary Cutie was piling on the pressure out front running very fast sectionals and she was starting to open the gap as the pressure started to tell on horses like Lear Park, Cosmo Girl and Perfect Karma. Seeking Sal, Woodyna, Sadler Seeker and The Fast Layne were all off the bit and finding it very tough to stay in touch with the leader. Torch the Flame was holding steady while the back markers Sip of Saki and Hail Cesario both pulled to the outside to make their moves.
But by the time the turned into the stretch The Bird had Flown Culinary Cutie had raced away and was being eased up going to the post, while Sip of Saki was flying into 2nd place. Torch the Flame was a great run being able to hold onto the winner for such a long time, Hail Cesario and Lear Park rounded out the top 5.
Straight after the race I asked her trainer The Gipper for his comments. What a fantastic race it was did you expect D.Givens to take the lead? First of I would just like to say WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO, I said to him just do what you feel is right, we expected Town Prince to take up the lead but it just didn’t happen. I’m just so happy, to win a Breeder’s Bowl is great but to do it with a 3yo Filly is just amazing. It was an amazing run. Where to know from here? I’m not quite sure I do know it is going to be a long night of celebrating, well I must be off now I got a bowl to collect.
After the race I also caught up with my great friend bj who’s horse Sip of Saki ran 2nd and also the jockey of Torch the Flame W.McClendon who ran 3rd. How are you feeling after today’s race? Well Mags I’m just a little disappointed we got held up at a critical stage in the race, but I can’t take anything away from the horse he ran his heart out today. And all credit has to go to the winner she was just magnificent and we hope to get another crack at her in the near future.Thank’s bj. Well Wayne you must have thought you were a big chance today were you happy with the run? Yeah she ran a fantastic race today we tried to hold onto the leader as long as possible but she was just too good, which was a bit of a surprise to us considering we thought we had the best of the 3yo’s, but it was hard to line up the form as they have not met each other on the race track before but we are happy to take 3rd spot here today. I’m sure there will be many more chances to turn the tables.
So there you have it what is in store for Culinary Cutie we don’t know but one thing they can never take away is the title Breeder’s Bowl Champion!
