The Secret Is Out
by lindsypark on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 7:52:59 AM

Who needs Friends.....

It was just a few weeks ago, late one Sunday night, whilst trolling through the lists of first year sires, trying to take advantage of Mike's June breeding offer one last time.

I was hoping to find that X factor, that future superstar or maybe just a horse that everyone else had passed over.

Right down the bottom, there he was, horse ID 17075, Blue Gum. A son of Bluebird and most importantly, standing in Australia.

There was something in the air, I could feel it, this guy caught my eye - I have no idea why, I guess it was good karma or something like that and for all of 11 BPs and no previous breedings, it was meant to be.

I had bred several other horses that evening, all to big name sires, hoping to finally find that elusive G1 winner that has evaded me for what seems like eternity.

My eyes were glazing over and I'd had enough so I selected Blue Gum, paired him with War Chant and Mr Greeley, congratulating myself for getting such great value for so late in the breeding week.

Oh no, I need to pick a name, I thought, I am totally out of ideas this week - oh well, i've really gotta go to bed, oh well - that'll do.

Next morning I awoke to find a beautiful filly in my matf yard and entered her in a 5F dash in Dubai on the dirt and as they say, the rest is history, she won with a 67 SP and I thought, by gum, I need another by BLUE GUM.

Fast forward one week and Love Your Gums, another filly out of Viscount and Allens Prospect debuts for my mgprice barn with a massive 82 SP victory at the E1 track.

By this time, I am hooked, 2 more Blue Gums are in my mexican and fil yards and they are still only costing me 11 BPs! (Blue Gum Girl ran a handy 2nd and Son of a Gum failed in CA with a 55 SP) It is like a drug, I'm addicted!

Being a member of the brilliant Queensland Residency, I sent out a message to my mate dowelly, who has helped me with some breeding suggestions and told him all about my find. "Keep it under your hat" I said.

Next day, I check on my boy, making sure he is ready to go - alas, there are no breedings left for Blue, "dowelly, how could you" was my first thought. I call him up and let him know what I think. "Not me" he replies, "I'm not breeding at the moment".

What has happened, how did my golden find suddenly become unavailable?

Then, I see it..staring me in the face..VALUE SIRES AND BROODMARES by Lebowski00!

My heart sinks, the entire Sim world now knows of the feats of my little aussie battler and for now the dream is over - I am lucky enough to have secured his first four offspring and I look forward to seeing how others fare with him - the secret got out just a little too soon and just goes to show, there is nothing sacred in Sim land.

And in closing, Blue Gum, WAS my bargain find of 3 weeks ago.

Cheers Lebowski00, you've made my day! ;0)

Good luck to everyone involved in the Equinics
