HOARSFROST HILL FACES 9 CHALLENGERS
Early Months Stakes Grade II A mile and one quarter Firm Turf $350,000 All horses, 3 years old Race ID:3714.5415
A talented field of 10 3yr. olds are set to meet in Saturday's Grade II EARLY MONTH STAKES at New South Wales. The race which carries a purse of $350,000, is schedualed to be run at 1 1/4 miles on the Turf Course. The field is headed by Grade I winner HOARSFROST HILL, who will be looking to add to his list of accomplishments and trying to stop him will be METIS the lone Aussie in the race, who i am sure will have the hopes of the home crowd and all of Aulstrallia riding with him, Grade I winner DEEETROIT TIGER and 7 others. The race figures to be hotly contested, as can be noted by the close spread in the odds. So lets take a closer look at how the race breaks down...
POST #1 GLYRACE (KY) HENNESY x MR. PROSPECTOR x IRISH TOWER TRAINER: gwhisper RACE RECORD: 11-4-1-2 JOCKEY: K WILLIAMS ODDS: 8-1
This Colt by HENNESY out of the Game Mare: SURPASSINGLY RACE and a half-brother to two Stakes-Placed winners has been well beaten in both Grade I attempts and is seemingly over matched today.
POST #2 DISTORTED COLONY (KY) DISTORTED HUMOR x PLEASANT COLONY x DEPUTY MINISTER TRAINER: jroque2 RACE RECORD: 10-4-4-0 JOCKEY: T KIRKLAND ODDS: 6-1
A winner of nearly $250,000 and long distance specialist. Threw in a rare dull effort last out, after finishing 1st or 2nd in his previous 8 starts. He will look to rebound to the form that found him second in the Grade I Owner's Stakes, out before last.
POST #3 FRANKLIN TERRACE (IRE) MONTJEU x FUSAICHI PEGASUS x SAINT BALLADO TRAINER: stormcat55 RACE RECORD: 17-5-5-0 JOCKEY: L FONTAIN ODDS: 11-1
Named after a historic Inn in FRANKLIN, NORTH CAROLINA? This son of MONTJEU has been well beaten in his last 3 Graded attempts and will be an outsider today.
POST #4 METIS (AUS) REDOUTE'S CHOICE x GALILEO x NUREYEV TRAINER: coolk RACE RECORD: 13-5-6-1 JOCKEY: R DOWELL ODDS: 5-1
First or second in 11 out of 13 starts. This Aussie-bred will be looking to revenge the loss he suffered in his last start, when he finished 2nd to DEEETROIT TIGER after taking the lead at the top of the stretch. Should be in the thick of it, defending National Honor today.
POST #5 HERE'S TO BEISBOL (IRE) AZAMOUR x BARATHEA x MACHIAVELLIAN TRAINER: zzz2912 RACE RECORD: 12-2-4-0 JOCKEY: R OWEN ODDS: 6-1
Finished 4th beaten 9 1/4 lengths in his last start, The Grade I judgemony International, where he faced older horses for the first time. A return to his own age group today, should prove to his liking.
POST #6 SCOVAZONE (ENG) RAINBOW QUEST x SADLER'S WELLS x TWO PUNCH TRAINER: tull RACE RECORD: 21-5-2-4 JOCKEY: B PHILIP ODDS: 6-1
This Stakes winner of over $270k at times has been abit inconsistant and although coming into the race off a personal high SP#, it was a well-beaten 6th. In his last start in Graded company, he was 4th beaten 7 lengths. He does have the experience factor going for him though. He has both the most overall starts and the most starts in Graded races. Which horse will show up today?
POST #7 SCHAUSPIELER (KY) THEATRICAL x SHIRLEY HIGHTS x ELAMANA-MOU TRAINER: robroe RACE RECORD: 9-2-1-2 JOCKEY: P CULPEPPER ODDS: 67-1
The positives...very nicely bred and a winner at the distance. The negatives...everything else! Eratic, untried in Stakes Company, low SP#s ect.. Just a slightly better bet than Lehman Bros. & Merrill Lynch. Save your money!
POST #8 DEEEETROIT TIGER (KY) WAR CHANT x KINGMAMBO x FERDINAND TRAINER: gipper7 RACE RECORD: 14-4-3-2 JOCKEY: N PITTS ODDS: 9-2
A half-brother to Grade Winner KATHRINE OF ARAGON(winner of over $2m) and a Grade I winner himself of nearly $500,000. Won his last start, The Grade I Big Red Stakes in smashing style. Coming from dead last in a field of 14, he got up in time and drew off to win by 2 1/4 lengths, while posting a personal high 112 SP# at todays distance. SHOULD BE A MAJOR FACTOR.
POST #9 NEW NORSICA (KY) DYNAFORMER x WOODMAN x IRISH RIVER TRAINER: hydrogen RACE RECORD: 8-3-1-2 JOCKEY: K PHILIP ODDS: 9-1
A lightly raced Colt, who has never been worse than 5th in 8 lifetime starts. Who appears to be improving with every start and already a winner at todays distance, will need a top effort today to get the job done. A repeat of his june 28th race would put him in the money.
POST #10 HOARFROST HILL (IRE) DANEHILL DANCER x FAPPIANNO x CAERLEON TRAINER: confessor RACE RECORD: 14-8-3-0 JOCKEY: P BANGS ODDS: 9-2
A Grade I winner of over $900,000, this 3yr. old son of DANEHILL DANCER is peaking at the right time and comes into the race off a personal best 107 SP#. The question today is? Can he get the distance?
In review, the first thing i must say is "That top to bottom, this is a nice group of 3yr. olds"! I know that i may sound harsh in my discriptions, but it is my job to paint a picture of the horse's chances in such a way, that a person without the racing form could make a choice. With that said.....
For me, this is a very difficult race in which to choose a winner, every horse in the race appears to be in a state of improvement and there is no telling what there ultimate potenial is, but I think today's race breaks down to weather enough pressure can be applied on HOARFROST HILL up front, in order to give the horses coming off the pace a chance down the lane? and i think the answer is YES! I look for GLYRACE and SCOVAZONE to be the initial threat, with METIS not far behind. i think the real challange though will be late in the lane by DEEETROIT TIGER. Regardless of the outcome, this race should make for both an INTERESTING and EXCITING afternoon.
HOPE TO SEE YOU AT THE RACES!!
