BREEDERS BOWL NIGHTCAP YOUTH DIRT SPRINT Grade III 4.5 Furlongs Fast Dirt $125,000 All Horses, 2 Years Old There comes a time in everyone's Simulated racing experience where we stop and think about Breeders Bowl Week. What would it be like to have a horse good enough to win? What would it be like to have a horse good enough just to qualify for a start? Well week 3749 brings us that opportunity. This year 224 horses will be representing their respective stables on a lovely afternoon in California. The third inaugural running of this particular event sees a full field of fourteen face the starter. Previous winners are Clear The Lead in 2007 and Elite Groom Ted in 2006. Interestingly both horses ran a SF of 89 to take the prize. Will that be enough to win here today? Time will tell. One thing is certain, this will surely be a hotly contested affair and a great way to cap a stellar day at the races. Here's how they line up: 1. SULTAN ovidius H. Harzheim 10/1 Grand Slam X Wild Again X Nashua On pace runner who will probably be looking to set the pace here today and over the super sprint trip of 4.5F, this will undoubtedly have its advantages. Won his MSW impressively back in March when leading throughout and posting a 72SF. Second time to the track he won The Simple Claimer Handicap Stakes Race defeating a field of six over 6F again leading all the way. Third up he tackled the big boys in the G2 Faber College Juvenile and wasn't disgraced finishing 5th beaten 2 1/2 lengths after engaging in an early speed duel. Stepped up to 8F last time out in The N. Clan Cap and although he finished 3rd he was found wanting in the straight and will definitely appreciate the return the a sprint trip here. If this guy can lead unchallenged (which will be a big task) he may very well prove hard to catch. Each way. 2. TALKIN' BASEBALL esagin K. Ledwith 6/1 Grand Slam X Clever Trick X Private Account Impressive colt coming of an excellent Stakes win. Made his debut in The Stormy Ton Handicap when leading throughout defeating a field of seven and posting an 80SF. Followed that up with a run in the Equinics and certainly wasn't disgraced when he finished 7th beaten 5 1/2 lengths in a red hot field. Returned to the winners circle last time when victorious in The Meadow Depositing Memorial. In that race he opened up a big margin and held on well to score by 2 1/2 lengths and putting up a 93SF to boot. Genuine improver who looks to be suited to the short sprint and rates highly. 3. GOBLIN KING wumpscut W. McClendon 9/2 Corinthian X Dehere X Forty Niner Highly promising colt and race favorite who is returning to a more suitable distance here today. Won his first three on the trot including a MSW at Upper New York followed by The Chief Hulk Memorial at Iowa then capped off the three from three with a victory in the Grade 3 Montana Futurity when fought on doggedly and posted a 90SF. Was given a shot at the Equinics and put up a gallant effort to run second by just over a length in possibly his best performance to date while posting an awesome 93SF. Last time out found the mile just too far and weakened to 6th in The Cryogenics Juvenile Grade 3. Back to a sprint trip here and looks to have a class edge in this race provided he has come back ok from his last start defeat. The one to beat. 4. CLOSES francy2 J. Stivers 13/1 Cryptoclearance X Canonade X Sharpen Up Foaled in March, this 2 year old colt has never been out of a place in his seven starts to date. Kicked off his career on this track when victorious in a MSW posting a 69 at great odds of 21.80, then followed that up with a win in an AlwNW2L defeating a field of seven at shorter odds of 7.70. Next couple of runs were good placings in Stakes company then won a four horse open Allowance Race with an 81SF. Finally got the elusive Stakes win when successful in The Surpassingly Hope Challenge over 5.5F when won pulling away. Last time out he run third in a field of four in The Sheep At The Woods Special when perhaps a little disappointing posting a 73SF. Looks like another who will be suited by the sprint trip and if he can bounce back from his last failure, he could be a good each way chance. 5. POSSIE crandyiii R. Harzheim 38/1 Posse X Honest Pleasure X Nashua One win from six starts and just a tick over 15K, this guy looks a bit out of his depth here. At his first appearance at the races he was seventh of 20 in an owner restricted Stakes Race and followed that up with a closing fourth at his second run. Improved at his next start to win his MSW when again made ground late and his last three have been ok without setting the world on fire. I reckon this guy might like a mile but his highly experienced trainer will surely have more of an insight than me. Closes late and if they go helter skelter in front, who knows, he might pop up for a show. 6. AMAZING MAZEY pauliev D. Evans 27/1 Smoke Glacken X Two Punch X Magesterial Two wins from six attempts and a nice win over this trip last time out give this guy a slight chance of a possible upset. Impressive at his first trip to the races when he won an owner restricted Stakes Race back in May posting a 70SF, not bad for that time of year. Thrown in to the deep end a bit at his second run when tenth of fourteen in the Grade 3 Montana Futurity over 5.5F. Next three were rather uninspiring over various sprint trips but as I mentioned last time out he won a NW2L over 4.5F and he does have the services of top jock D. Evans to give him a boost. A lot of his opposition hasn't won over this trip so he could be a place chance. 7. RANSOM DANCIN socalsipe O. Cassell 7/1 Strategic Prince X Red Ransom X Forty Niner This guy has been very impressive in his six starts to date and looks to be a serious contender in this event. Started out his racing career with a MSW win on the turf posting a 66SF then was switched to the dirt and was once again victorious in a NW1x posting a much improved 76SF. Went up in class and was just nailed on the line in The Catapult Stakes. Again rose in class and put in a top class effort when third in the Grade 3 Abstract Juvenile. Went around again in another Grade 3 and finished worse than midfield but last time out was possibly his best run to date when found the lead, opened up a nice margin, and held on well to take out the Dyna From Known Cap posting a career high 87SF. Has a lot of speed and it will be interesting to see if he tries to utilize that as there seems to be a fair amount of speed in this race. Class horse who is no stranger to the big stage and is a strong chance in this race. 8. SMOKING TREES redhill3 D. Givins 29/1 Smoke Glacken X Mayakovsky X Unbridled Not much to say about this guy, one start one win in a MSW beating a full field of fourteen over 4.5F posting a 76SF. Obviously an unknown quantity but a wins a win and winning form is good form. Today we will see if he is up to this class. Has the services of one of my favorite jockeys in D. Givins and he is trained by astute trainer redhill. Big watch. 9. SUNSET CAJUN twoofus2 F. Gossett 7/1 Dehere X Fusaichi Pegasus X Seattle Slew February Foal who is a Graded winner and definitely right in this race. Had a great start to his career with three on the trot including a MSW over 5.5F, a NW1x over the same trip then a massive run in The Grade 3 Early Morning Special when showed a powerful finishing burst to grab victory and stamp himself as a major player. Followed that race up with another great run when just nabbed on the line in the Grade 3 Montana Futurity when attempting to lead throughout. Found the going to hot in the Equinics when well beaten then at his last start didn't seem to be suited over the mile when well held again. Freshened up and back to a more favorable trip here which brings him right into contention. Good chance. 10. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN booberry B. Ball 10/1 Event Of The Year X Awesome Again X Nashua Just two lifetime runs for this guy but he has been ultra impressive on both occasions. He's showed enormous speed at both his runs and has held on well. The first being in a MSW in September when he scored posting a nice 78 SF on debut. At his next start he again showed great toe and at one stage got out to a lead of nearly seven lengths to eventually hold on and win by two posting an improved 87SF. Trying the 4.5F today for the first time and the closest he has come is 6.5F but if he can show the speed he has in his only two runs to date, it shouldn't pose a problem. Take beating. 11. RED LIGHT RUNNER clk2000 F. Porter 17/1 Stormy Atlantic X Rubiano X Grey Dawn II This young colt took four runs before he finally saluted the judge in first place. The win coming in a MSW at Iowa when he posted a 69SF and made late ground to score. His next two runs resulted in vastly improved SF's however he was clearly outclassed last time in The Louisville Burden Memorial over 7F when last. Gets his chance to bounce back here today but may struggle in this grade. 12. MORE THAN GOLDEN shonuff P. Harzheim 9/1 More Than Ready X not For Love X Forty Niner Eight runs for 2 wins and three seconds and this is knocking on the door in Stakes Races of late. Tasted success at his third race start in a MSW at New York posting a 73SF. Followed that up with another victory in an NW1x with a 72SF but his next four runs were all better each time and it won't be long before this guy has a Stakes Race under his belt. His last start effort in The Wonderboy Elf Stakes was excellent and showed some real guts to fight on for second beaten only 3/4 of a length. Rises in class today but he is improving all the time and rates as a good each way chance in this. 13. PAUL OR PAULA BG missouri3 T. Small 13/1 Black Minnaloushe X Forestry X Deputy Minister Two tries in Stakes Races for the colt have resulted in a win and a second. Finished fifth at his first lifetime start then followed that up with four consecutive 73SF races which were two seconds and two wins. Attempted a Stakes field at his sixth run and wasn't disgraced in finishing second in The Porously Gamble Bonanza on an off track over 6F against a field of six. Last start showed a good turn of foot to take out the Unreviewable Special, admittedly against a field of four and needed only a 76SF to win by 2 3/4 lengths running away. Up in class here today but has shown signs of a very good racehorse and may be ready to take the next step and become a Graded contender. Place. 14. AFFIRMED DESTINY jmsstable J. Loesch 7/1 Werblin X Affirmed X Storm Cat Four starts to date but all of them have been excellent runs. His first lifetime start resulted in a third in a MSW when fought on ok to post a 72SF. Next time out showed marked improvement to score his MSW and post a good 85SF and win by a length and 3 quarters running away. Was thrown into The Grade 2 Dell Computer Futurity and wasn't disgraced in finishing fifth of thirteen and posting an 84SF. His last race was an excellent effort to score in The Bold Trapping Stakes when showed nice finishing speed to win with a 87SF. Improving all the time and is rated among the winning hopes. Each Way. In summary, A very open race as are all of today's highly anticipated races so tipping is not easy. I have selected Happy Birthday Again to win, Goblin King is the class runner and deserved favorite so he is in for second, and Talkin Baseball for the show, he is suited by the short sprint and will be a major player. I may not be sober enough to properly watch this race, there may very well be 28 horses not 14 but one thing is for sure this card is set to provide some great racing and this event is no exception. Best of luck to all involved and hope this years Breeders Bowl is a memorable one for all. Crack On!!!!
