HARD INDIAN returned to the Oaks/Derby trail in a big way with a strong win in the G1 California Oaks last Saturday. After running midpack throughout the early running, she charged past frontrunner QUIK N SHILOH and drew clear of that rival nearing the wire to win by 2 lengths in a time of 1:42.4, earning a 98 SPF and moving to #1 in the 3yo filly rankings.
HAWAIIAN GOLD charged up late, just missing the place spot.
Trainer taylormade was ecstatic about his filly's win. It was nice to see HARD INDIAN in the winners' circle again. I was starting to wonder if that tough 2yo campaign I laid out for her had squeezed the lemon dry. I know there's a lot of racing left in her now.
When asked about future plans, taylormade was noncommittal. I don't know at the moment... There are several graded races is four weeks and a big one in five, but it all will depend on how my filly responds.
In any case, this filly will be tough to beat.
