The Boys Get a Shake Up Down Under!
New Market Handicap Grade I Six Furlongs on the Firm Turf Course Purse -$800,000: 1st: $480,000, 2nd: $200,000, 3rd: $64,000, 4th: $40,000, 5th: $16,000 All horses, 4 years old and up Stakes record – 2009 – Road Not Taken(KY), 1:08-4/5, SPF 111.909 In my preview, I mentioned that with Pegram up as the jockey on HAACK'S MOM she might be ready for a break out race. It sure looks like she got it here, winning her first Graded race against a stellar field of males. She settled in the five hole, a little uncharacteristic for her and ran them down in the stretch. I give jockey Pegram a lot of the credit here, he guided this mare to a near perfect race. Perhaps after this victory in the New Market Handicap this weekend, she’ll be ready for more of this kind of race.In the end, HAACK'S MOM won by better than a length that enabled her to gain her 10th victory in only 22 tries. She has now won five of her last six with only a slight slip to fifth in her first Grade I two back She now has over $791k in earnings for trainer MrHaack and looks like she is just hitting her stride with this break out win. She tied for her fastest race with a solid 109 SPF and now has three Stakes wins and has gathered her first Graded win. She improved her rank to the top 200 in the older horse turf sprint class. As predicted, both RATTLIN REBEL and BERT'S PROSPECT jumped out to the early lead in the race. They battled each other throughout the race and ended up in a tight finish for fourth and fifth along with DOTH'RAKI who was the morning line favorite and finished sixth. BAJA PENINSULA held third place throughout the race and finished in that spot as well. MAXIMUS PRIME showed some of his four year old flair and charged down the stretch for second behind our winner. Also Rans were : BERT'S PROSPECT(ENG), RATTLIN REBEL(KY), DOTH'RAKI(KY), SALPADO(IRE), WILLFUL NEGLECT(FL), SOMEDAY SOMETHING(KY), CHANGE THIS(PA), SANDSTONE PARK(KY), HAMILTON ISLAND(ENG) After this race, trainer MrHaack and the Otto Haack Stables have to be really excited about the prospects of this pretty cream colored mare. I can’t wait to see if this will translate into a solid year for this group. Good luck to all runners! Email your comments to pazjazz.btb@gmail.comI love to hear from you!
