A special race is scheduled this weekend to pay honors to one of the worse horses ever to run, um, well, er, not sure if run is correct for this horse…lets say “appear” on the sim-racing circuit. Sersave, a horse that I own that came my way from stocking a barn with computer assigned horses will be making his 100th and final start of his career. Sersave has a career record of 1-3-2 over 99 races.
The special race is tagged as “Farewell to Sersave-Race 100” and as this race will be his final of his career, it is somewhat ironic that it is also the final race on the Minnesota program this weekend. The race will be at the short distance of 4.5 furlongs and is restricted to horses age 9 with a CPU value of 15 or under….gotta laugh at that one, as if Sersave ever had a CPU value.
Sersave had a streak of 15 consecutive last place finishes which came to an end with his last start where he finished 8th in a field of 9. Over 160 horses had beaten Sersave before he was able to beat Golden Master to the wire.
It doesn’t look too likely that Sersave will win his 2nd career race, but the opportunity has been set for him. Kinda funny that if he does win, he will double his career wins in his last start.
The last time Sersave collected any money was back on May 5, 2007 where he finished fifth. It was also the last time he received any Breeding Points. He is guaranteed to pick up some purse money this weekend as well as those lovely BP’s as this race has only 4 going to the post.
Now the hard part…will he hit the board? It doesn’t look too promising. The last time he finished on the board was August, 2005. Hmm, that was one president and three Olympics ago! Now onto the competion!!!
1. Another A Princess 1-1
Another A Princess has speeds of mid-50’s to low 60’s over her last 5 starts. This gal looks to be the best and should have things her way. Sorry Sersave!
2. Ross Pass 6-5
Ross Pass could give Another A Princess a run as a CPU entered filler. Likes to lead and drops in distance, so may actually last all the way.
3. Sersave 13-1
Even in his farewell race, Sersave gets a slap in the face being sent off as the longshot. He hasn’t got a speed higher than 50 since last March. At least he can’t finish worse than forth! But there is a little bit of a grudge match with the next horse…
4. Season Grease 9-2
This is where the real competition is! Over at the EWC (East-West Connection) residence, where I have several stables located, Denovo has dug up an old nag of his own, Season Grease. This bummer is winless in 39 starts and has not raced since 2007. His last recorded speeds were in the low to mid 50’s and looks to be the only obstacle that can prevent Sersave from hitting the board. Maybe I will find a lead bar and pull a Tanya Harding on the horses leg….just don’t tell Denovo!
There you have it. The 9-year old Sersave who may not be the all-time worse horse to show up on the track, but is certainly on the list of shame does have one accomplishment he can be proud of. He is one of the very few to record 100 races in a career. And for that, he is honored in this race!
