Reed Road Dominates On Front End Victory
The Adelaide Oaks Review
We had a fantastic day here in Queensland and the Adelaide Oaks and Derby didn’t disappoint the 92,000 here in attendance. Weinhard took home the Derby version with a solid 2:31 time for the testing 1 ½ race. Let’s see how the Oaks unfolded:
As the starter lowered the flag, it was the filly Reed Road to break on top. Septicemique would track her in 2nd, followed by Street Lemon who was already an amazing 10 lengths back early in the race. Street Cheer would follow in 4th, Hoohah in 5th and Zombie’s Vampires in 6th. Dance Cat Dance would trail the field by 12 lengths only 3f into the race.
Jockey C.Wyatt could feel early that Reed was gonna’ be tough to handle today. As they seemingly ripped down the back straight away, Wyatt would whisper to the strapping brown mare to relax, assuring her she was ok. He would get her settled into that long stride, and with 6f into the race, Reed Road had gone up an easy 6 ½ lengths to Septicemique. Street Lemon was biding her time in 3rd still, Street Cheer’s jock Phillips was waiting for someone to turn up the pressure, as all the jocks knew at this point that trouble was looming. Hoohah was 5th, trailing by 12 ¼ lengths. As they reached the top of the stretch, the 92,000 was in awe as to what was occurring on the front end. Reed Road had now extended her lead to 10 ½ lengths now and she was still in hand. Hoohah was the first to try to take a shot at the front, as she was in a good stride now and making up ground on Reed. Street Cheer and Street Lemon would hit the top together and fight out for a show spot.
Reed Road would come into the stretch with Wyatt just coaxing her through the stretch. Hoohah was trying to make a strong rally at her. Street Lemon and Street Cheer were still battling for the show spot.
As they hit the wire, it was Reed Road who turned in a simply remarkable wire to wire victory in the 12f event. The collective Supers Stable had made the right choice after only 2 weeks rest and notched her 2nd Gr1 and 3rd overall graded race. Hoohah, the runner up in the Gr1 St.Larry in her last, closed well to get 2nd again for Tees. Street Cheer, in her first gr1 attempt, ran a respectable 3rd and gave Kobras a piece of the purse. Street Lemon was followed in 4th, followed by Dance Cat Dance, Septicemique and Zombie Vampires.
Reed Road’s time of 2:31 1/5th missed the stakes record by 1/5th of a second and ran a 99 speed number for the effort. She is now the #2 ranked Long distance ranked filly in the division, to go along with her #3 rank in the Route division.
