THE FEATURE
Twelve very smart two year olds locked horns at the Queensland racecourse on Saturday in the COLONEL EARL(NZ) Challenge Stakes over seven furlongs for $75,000. The beautifully bred colt SUNSHINE SUPERSTAR(IRE) (Danehill Dancer(IRE) x Storm Cat x AP Indy) led all the way to score an impressive one and three quarter length win and remain unbeaten from two starts for the siriusflit stable. Ridden by Queensland’s number one hoop C Wyatt he opened up a handy lead at the top of the straight and held off the late finishes of both IMPERIO BORICUA and local bred MELBOURNE FREE. The runner up IMPERIO BORICUA was set too hard a task by jockey R Guyo and will continue to improve as the distances get longer.
Speaking of jockeys C Wyatt leads the premiership with 97 wins from M Cameron on 67 and S DeBerg next best with 40 wins for the current season. New boy K Damo is having a great debut season with 29 wins and over $1M in stakes earnings from his 218 mounts.
BEST OF THE LOCALS
The grey three year old BORREGO AGAIN(KY) finally broke through for her first win from six starts with an easy two and a half length win in the last race. The 7/5 favourite was well spotted by the Punters Challenge players and was also the favoured runner in the last leg of the straight six. I am sure the shadolodge stable will get more wins from this three year old filly.
THE BAGMEN
The best backed runner all day was the 13/1 shot PRUDISH PAUL(AUS) from the noor55 barn who left the money in finishing down the track in the $15,000 Claimer. The punters hit back late on the card with BIG DRAMA, BORN TYPICAL and the previously mentioned BORREGO AGAIN all well supported favourites to win.
The Straight Six has jackpotted again despite all the late favourites winning but it is getting closer to going off with all six winners selected just not by the same person.
