Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up
Our next race on the Claiming Crown card features fillies and mares sprinters. These claiming divas all look to try to grab a piece of the $75000 purse which is probably more than most of them have ever raced for. Unlike most of the other races on the card today there’s not much talent to speak of. Donny Beisbol’s Lake Haack really stands head and shoulders above the rest. After that it’s a crap shoot. Good luck with your picks.
PP1 99/1 CAT CLAIM FILLY(IRE)
Trainer: woodlyns
Well someone has to be long shot. Cat Claim Filly really isn’t much more than target practice for the rest of the field. With only one win in 27 starts and SP’s in the 60’s, if she finishes any better than 13th you can consider that a win.
PP2 18/1 ANNA'S ARTWORK(IRE)
Trainer: silkworm
The three year old, Anna’s Artwork may be a bit overmatched against older company. For a three year old, she’s really not that bad but she hasn’t quite seemed to make it there yet. The key work is yet. She’s improved with just about every start and raced a scrappy 6th versus older horses last time out so I wouldn’t be surprised to see her do well here.
PP 3 6/1 CORONA BEAUTY(AUS)
Trainer: freewill
After our favorite, Corona Beauty starts a run of three fillies/mares at 6/1. Owned and trained by the CVBear Empire, this four year old mare has hit the board for her connections in all five races that she’s ran including two claiming wins. Her success really depends on her jockey as she likes to stalk the pace but sometimes is sent too late and comes up short. That being said, I’m not convinced that she can win but I would make sure to include her in any trifecta combination that you may have.
PP 4 28/1 BECCA'S PRIDE(KY)
Trainer: waikato
It took 15 races for Becca’s Pride finally break the 80 SP barrier again. This six year old Pikepass mare has raced her entire career for the Rharfo Stables. You have to go all the way back to November of 2008 to find her last win. Really not much more I can say here.
PP 5 6/1 CRIMSON RAJ(IA)
Trainer: alamshar85
Teejay Racing Stables represents our next entry, Crimson Raj. This Crimson Hero mare makes her second start off a lengthy layoff and hopefully can improve off a very dismal showing last time out. She comes off that race with an 11th place finish and a 75 SP. In fact, her average SP in her four starts for Teejay is an 86. However, she can bounce back as she’s proven in the past. In fact, her career best rating of 102 came off bad race and a layoff. We’ll have to wait and see with this one.
PP 6 11/1 SHERRISHERRISHERRI(LA)
Trainer: bayooherd
Sherrisherrisherri starts our line of double digits odds entries. Although she has five career wins she’s only managed to break a 90 SP once in 33 races. She comes off an ill decided 16 furlong race where she finished 15 lengths behind with a 72 SP. You really have to think how she’ll rebound after that race. Not convinced.
PP 7 4/1 LAKE HAACK(AUS)
Trainer: mattress
Our morning line favorite, Lake Haack, comes in today a winner of her last four starts. Her connections, Donnybeisbol’s Gent…..really Donny, do I have to type the whole thing out? Anyways, the DBGMC group entry looks tough here. She has cruised to victory under a hand ride in her last three starts, the best of which was in a move up in class to a NW1x allowance race. Although this filly has never broken a 100 SP I would be surprise if she didn’t here. Look for her to take back extremely early with a late hard charge.
PP 8 7/1 SEEKING BETTER WAY(KY)
Trainer: stratton
Seeking Better Way looks to improve on her second start under her new connections Teejay Stables. Really more of a route runner for most of her short career, her owner hopes that a drop in distance is the key. She bounce extremely hard last time out at 8 furlongs but had been pretty consistent hitting the board prior to that in allowance company. Perhaps this is the key in her second start.
PP 9 20/1 MY GIRL G
Trainer: bayooherd
The second of two Bayooherd entries, My Girl G comes off the same ill fated two mile race that Sherrisherrisherri did. Of all the long shots she has probably has the best shot. Not blessed with blazing speed, she is pretty consistent with rating hovering around the high 80’s to low 90. If you’re looking for a long shot sleeper pick she may be the one.
PP 10 15/1 SAVZIG(KY)
Trainer: trotter159
Almost an exclusive router, Savzig drops in distance with hopes that she can find the winners circle for the first time at anything less than a mile. Her last dirt sprint start was last September that led to a horrible 69 sp which surprisingly was good enough for 2nd place. She’s a deep closer so I have to question the drop in distance as she’s come short almost every time. With SP’s averaging in the 70’s I just don’t see much here.
PP 11 6/1 THE WITCHBLADE(IRE)
Trainer: rocket25
The track handicapper may have been a bit liberal with the 6/1 odds with The Witchblade. This four year old mare makes her 9th start for her connections but has yet to record a win at any level. Not all that bad of a runner but half way through this season she just hasn’t shown any signs of maturity that you normally see from four year olds. Probably not enough to get the job done.
PP 12 21/1 SMARTY CATZ(KY)
Trainer: pacer216
We’ve all had one of these. (Smarty Jones x Storm Cat x Mr. Prospector) Spectacular breeding that just never seems to materialize. But it looks like this filly may have just woke up or perhaps her last race was just a fluke. All together though, it’s hard to put much hope in a three year old who’s been racing in the 70’s. However, she comes off an 89 SP performance in her last race in allowance company against older horses. Could surprise if she can repeat.
PP 13 7/1 HOLLYWOOD STORY
Trainer: teejay101
Hollywood Story looks to prove that she deserves a spot in the Teejay Stables. She makes her third start for connections but has shown no signs of her past performance. She comes off a very bad 12th place finish with a 76 SP. The good news is that she is very unpredictable and could bounce back into form at any time. For Teejay’s sake they hope so.
PP 14 16/1 MINN WANTS ME(MN)
Trainer: dundey3
Breaking out of the outside gate, Minn Wants Me is hard to judge. This four year old mare has been hanging around the Local Bred Racing circuit lately and is about even on route/sprint starts. Nothing on paper really makes you look harder at this mare. Four of her last six races have come with ratings in the 70’s and that is not where near what’s needed to win this one. Good luck but not much here.
