The Bayou track featured a 2yo stakes last week, as well as some outstanding performances on the undercard
RODOTs
Kinda sounds like a broken record when I say that the Oddla stable continues to punish in LA bred racing. Last week the 3yo Robyn Dancer filly, When To Dance, scored as the overwhelming 3/5 choice in a maiden claiming affair. Claimed two back from Texlaokar1, this girl placed in her debut for the new connections before getting the bow this time out, with jockey R Shiloh up for the win.
In other rodot action, Leaping Frog took a $13.5 claimer for the Phillysuns barn, with A Jolly aboard. Downwithme took the other claimer on the short program, racing half as far as his last out to take the $30k conditioned claimer under F Oxon, for the Deputy 33 stables.
Saturday
Always exciting to have an undefeated horse come in and we had one last week in Sjmeola Racing's SJ's Canuck. The 2yo filly, by Judith's Wild Rush, was sent off as the lukewarm 5/2 choice, despite riding a four race winning streak to start her career. It unfolded about the same as the rest of her starts thusfar, sitting just off the early speed of Ready To Mambo T before taking control midway through the 6.5 furlong stakes. Canuck was never in trouble from there, coasting in for the easy length and three quarters win under A Jolly.
Let's touch on some fairly impressive allowance runners from last week. The royally bred Tex Cat, from the Kingranch barn, returned to his winning ways last week, easily handling track restricted foes, by more than three lengths, in a shiny 1:34 flat. The 4yo Storm Cat colt has run the dirt mile four times over the local strip, only losing the GII Jazz Fest to the eight furlong up-and-comer Island Parade. A Jolly was in the irons, as she has been for all of Tex Cat's local starts. A 4yo Point Given mare, Controlled Power, is regaining past form for Fabman and looked super impressive crushing nine furlong allowance foes by four under leading jock F Oxon, the time was 1:48 flat. River Ridge Farms sent out Special Dibz in a 8.5 furlong conditioned allowance, and the 4yo Pulpit horse returned with the highest spf of the week, a 114 for zipping the distance in 1:40 4/5 under veteran D Hogin. Heetseekinmissle made it four in a row last week, turning into a superb claim for Redhill. The 3yo Distorted Humor colt, Carelessly, cranked out a nice run in his third lifetime start, taking a nw2l allowance in 1:48 1/5, winning by more than two under A Jolly.
One other 2yo to keep an eye on would be Super's Archery Summit, by Dylan Thomas. The colt was switched to turf after a lackluster performance on the dirt in his debut and responded with a hard fought win in a deep msw field. Bred to like more ground, this one should keep getting better as the year progresses.
A Jolly led the way for the local jockeys, carding five winners saturday. D Hogin bagged three, while leader F Oxon took two for himself. No linked stables carded multiple wins on saturday's card.
